I thought West would lose but it was closer than I thought and if they could have passed (just a little) it would have been an all SEO regional final. Valley will beat Wynford and they can stop the pass (West did fine for much of the game but a couple big throws hurt them). The QB for Wynford is a good size kid, is very athletic and throws a pretty ball and his receivers dropped 3 perfect passes that would have gotten big yardage if caught. Their running game is not good against a good defense and the QB also runs a lot of plays for himself (draws, dives, sprint outs, etc.). It seemed everytime tonight when they needed a first down he took it himself for 3 or 4 yards. West softened him up tonight so Valley can get the knock out next week. Prediction: Valley 28 - Wynford 17 (Guaranteed from what I've seen). "Please mix a couple passes in there and it might be over early".
I don't know if any teams run it these days but when the linebackers were crowding the line of scrimmage, we would run a "pop pass."
If the linebackers are making the correct reads, both guards block down, the QB fakes to the FB up the middle, and hits the tight end across the middle. Even if it wasn't successful, it kept the linebackers off the ball.
Anything like that, I agree wholeheartedly. Everyone knows the SEO teams like to run the ball but if they could mix in some passing it would go a long way even if it's curls, slants or pop passes as you say. I started another thread about this very thing a little while ago. It's just frustrating watching the SEO teams get beat year after year when they clearly have the better running game but can't throw. GEESH !!!!!

I'll tell you what, I know you don't watch much D-5 football...if you'll come to the Valley-Wynford game next week, I'll buy your ticket and we'll even feed you during the tailgate. If nothing else, you'll have some good food, a free game, and I'll graciously endure any trash talking you wish to dish out. I understand where you stand on SEO teams, and I've seen enough football D-1 through D-6 to know that this isn't your typical SEO team. What do you say? I'll take care of you, making sure you have a good time and then support any remarks earned afterwards. What do you think? Would you like to come watch the game with us? Hell, you might just have a good time.

Ah, Jesco, I watch plenty of D-V. Ursuline ring a bell? Too early to tell what plans are for next week, but for sure I have season tickets for YSU and they have a home game. Mooney won and is a possibility. Girard and Western Reserve also should be playing. Got way too many teams here to watch and have better chances of getting to state. The Mahoning Valley is loaded again this year.

Jesco - I'd join as well, but I'll be in Richmond, VA next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for work, so unfortunately, I can't make it. The Indians just need to win next week, then this ol' boy will see what he can do about making it to your next game. Go Indians!!!!!!!!!

I've always preferred DIII, DIV and DV anyway. DI and DII have too many primadonnas and DVI is not competitive in most years with the same teams with winning traditions having a stranglehold on that division. Your game should be somewhere like Logan, Hamilton Township or Hilliard depending on who bid on the games. I wouldn't think they would put you guys back at Upper Arlington or Wynford in Reynoldsburg again but nothing the OHSAA does anymore surprises me. I'll be there next weekend to watch Valley win.

Paladin, I'm calling BS!! Those other "options" will be there on a regular basis. Based on your own words, Valley is a rare case. Other than gas, everything else is free. All you have to do is watch our SEO boys play in person. Don't give me that Ursuline BS!!! You already told me via our cordial pm conversation that you aren't as up on D-5 competion. I'm offering you a free D-5 Regional final game. Your "options" will still be there after next Friday. I'm sincerely asking you. What do you have to lose? I'd love your first-person take on my boys from Valley, rather than Internet chatter from afar. I promise you'll at least enjoy yourself and gain some appreciation for how much our very small community supports our team.

I tell you what, I have watched a lot of high school football over the years and this Valley team is very, very impressive. They have an awesome offense that is firing on all cylinders right now and just ran and passed all over Crestview tonight. The defense bent at times, and they did give up a couple big plays to #43 Minnich, but for the most part they held the Cougars in check the entire game. The forced some TO's and then turned those into points. Keller and Yates both looked great running the ball. My father and I really enjoyed watching the game and had a great time with the fans around us under the press box. I wish I didn't have to work next Friday or we would be making another trip north to watch the Indians again.

Good luck Valley!! Bring home that regional title.

I'm anxious to see the final stat line on this one. Keller had another monster game, as did Yates. And, I really LOVED the play of the Valley offensive and defensive ines!! The Minnich kid from Crestview was definitely a very solid running back and it's easy to see how he put up the numbers he did in the regular season this year. i think we contained him pretty well tonight, with the exception of a couple of long runs, including the 60-yd TD run in the second half. He was a nice player.

Congrats to the Cougars on a fine 11-1 season and best of luck in the future!

As for our Valley Indians.......GREAT JOB PURPLE!!! One game at a time! One win at a time. It's time to set our sights on Wynford and get ready to go next Friday!!!

By the way, the Indians set a school record tonight for wins in a single season with 12! Congrats to these fine youngsters on achieving that mark and now let's go out and extend the record some more!!!

Thanks BG77!! Crab_apple told me he ran into you tonight and got a chance to talk to you for a minute. Thanks for coming up and supporting our kids. Hopefully we can get another win next Friday so you can have another chance to see us play!!

Thanks for the stats, coop. I was kind of surprised that Crestview didn't run Minnich more. Montgomery was also a very nice back, and looked like a very nice sized kid, but I thought going in that Minnich typically carried the ball majority of the time. I know Minnich had the 60 yard TD run. Didn't he have another long run as well? I can't remember right now. I'm half asleep as I type. lol

I believe you're right!!!

I gotta tell you, because I know you'll appreciate this, being away from us the way you are right now...

It was a very special moment for us "old guys" after the game as the team walked off the field and we got to congratulate them and hug coach Schuler, coach Rolfe, coach Crabtree, etc on the big win. This team is doing an amazing job of representing themselves, their families and this community (and extended Valley FAMILY) as a whole. I'm so proud of them!!!

DITTO!! It has been a joy to follow them on the web. I listened to the game from a radio station up North. They did an outstanding job! They were pulling for Crestview but they gave Valley credit from the outset. They were professional throughout and they broadcasted an excellent game...VERY EXCITING!
