Some people watched the game. They can run the ball all they want, but you can't go far if you don't balance your game more. Wynford was balanced. Their QB had several completions and put the defense on their heels, so when he dropped back he had time to throw it or run it. He could have had a picnic in the backfield with how much time he had. West has an excellent coaching staff, but they needed to throw the ball more.West Side Pride wrote:Buckeye24 wrote:All I can say is wow. Re: D5 R19: Portsmouth West 9 vs. Bucyrus Wynford 14 Final s
Wynford was a very good team. West had a great opportunity to win the game at the end. The coaches put them in a great opportunity to win, boys played their hearts out. That's all you can ask.
I will agree though, going forward we have to get better in the passing game. I like the T, but it just limits what you can do so much because you don't have a split end. We can run the dives, counters, and option out of 2 split backs instead of 3. That's basically all we run now minus the wedge plays. One split would open this offense up a bunch. I just believe it's hard to fool a defense when you have to switch formations to pass effectively. It defeats the purpose.
More than anything we have to defend the spread better. Giving up 14 points to that offense is outstanding, but having to switch to a 4-3 on the fly is tough and they did an outstanding job. If we ran the 4-3 during the season, the outside linebacker would get better in coverage. Just walk him up against running teams and your in the 5-2 again. Would help us alot.

I though West should have kicked the FG to make it 14-12....and could have won it on that final drive after the INT on another FG.

You make it sound like Ratliff lost the game by his self. Just like half the idiots in the stands. Do you think Levi called the play? Do you think he tells the coaches, to wait to obvious passing downs, to pass. Do you think he tells the receivers to stop running their routes? Or not to even go out when their suppose to? Do you think he tells his line to let this guy in so I can try to avoid him? Half of these bleacher coaches, have never even played a down of football. Let alone dropped back to throw a pass in high school. So they dont know what the play was, or what each players responsability is! I know, that This senior class, will go down as one of the winningest classes ever. And most of them was starting their sophomore year. So thanks seniors for three very good years. I'm very proud of the way you guys, carried yourselves, on and off the field.Buckeye24 wrote:All I can say is wow. GREAT POST

Re: D5 R19: Portsmouth West 9 vs. Bucyrus Wynford 14 Final s
First off, I cheered for him at every single game this year. I never brought him down. I said he got sacked. And if you actually read my post, I pointed out that they continued to run the ball, which is on the coaches. Never did I bring him down in any way, so don't classify me as one of these "idiots in the stands." Without these "idiots" you're talking about, this team would have no support. Don't bring down the people who go out every week and cheer for this team and give them the support they need to actually win games.Black@Orange wrote:You make it sound like Ratliff lost the game by his self. That started two years ago against Portsmouth, when he missed two extra points and they lost by 1. One bad game and he goes through three seasons of criticism..UPNYA4 wrote::122248 Yep....you and about half the West Side thought the same. But, that’s the way it goes. Re: D5 R19: Portsmouth West 9 vs. Bucyrus Wynford 14 Final s
I'm very proud of how our boys played. Clean, hard hitting football. We had opportunities to win this game and it just didn't work out. We've been a running team all year for the most part. It's impossible to become a passing team week 12. I think everyone would like to see a more balanced offense and we absolutly had the players this year to do that but they played the way they were coached and thats to run the ball. Congrats on a great season and all the best to the seniors as they move forward.
Re: D5 R19: Portsmouth West 9 vs. Bucyrus Wynford 14 Final s
I have gotta commend these men on one amazing season. A very talented group who proved themselves and showed everyone who doubted them. Know this when you play West, you are gonna get all you can handle. Again great job and best of luck to all of you in the future.
Re: D5 R19: Portsmouth West 9 vs. Bucyrus Wynford 14 Final s
I look forward to them being even better and stronger next year. The seniors were good influences on the team to work hard and get the job done, and I expect them to do just that. I would be surprised if they don't finish up the season 10-0 next year. Probably a little early to make predictions, but the depth of this team is hard to ignore. They have someone to fill every hole left by the seniors.
Re: D5 R19: Portsmouth West 9 vs. Bucyrus Wynford 14 Final s
We should be really good again next year. 10-0 is a definate possibility.
