I love how flawed these rules are.
So let me get this strait.....
You can arch your back if your butt doesnt leave the bench. Its a bad lift if you see daylight under the butt.
Now heres my problem. I personally am not able to arch my back enough for me to make a difference in the lift WITHOUT my butt coming off the bench. Someone said "If they see daylight under your butt its a bad lift" but yet your allowed to arch your back. When i lifted in powerlifting meets i wore strait up gym shorts like 90% of the poeple there (theres always the HA's who wear their squat suits)
Now think about this. If your allowed to arch your back so long that your butt doesnt leave the bench and its only a bad lift if "they see daylight under your butt" enables you to actually HAVE your butt come off the bench without daylight showing. I could have my butt 3-4 inches off before my shorts would raise high enough off the bench. That just gives places like this a chance to boast about their 700 lb "legit" benches and the 700 lb squats that seems to be a dime a dozen down there. If you have to stay flat then theres no arguement. If you leave the bench, bad lift.

Last year a gut in the 210 weihgt class benched 425 and his chest almost touched the racks because his back was arched so high. (At the state powelifting meet.)

This topic turned into a circus REAL quick. Now all we need is come Chesapeake High School officials and Bobby Knight to throw around some chairs and we will have us a show!
