there is nothing even being started in looking for a coach , there is no short list or nothing yet , so whatever everyone keeps hearing or saying is completely RUMORS, those guy would probably be good choices, but nothing is happening yet :122246

I talked to an employee of the Minford School District today, and an email was sent through the school for "in house" employees to come forward for first refusal. I guess the whole basketball program is out of coaches. Good luck to you all.

I coached Richard and Fitch. Both know the game well.

The word around Muletown is Coach Shoemaker, if there is a job. No offense to Coach Shoemaker, but I still think that it would first be offered to Coach Bradford if he wants to leave. Either choice would fit Minford, with Fitch also included.

I now understand the boys lost the 7 and 8th grade coaches along with the freshman, JV, assistant and head. Strickland doesn't want it. He only helped as a favor to Copley. Richards will only be retained if he is offered as head coach or the new head coach wants him as an assistant.

So, we are looking at 6 openings.

For the girls they are looking for a 7 and 8th coaches.

Total of 8 openings

I don't know coach shoemaker personally. The only observation I can offer would be that the Trojans team lacked discipline and seemed out of control. And like it or lump it, that one is on the coach.

In contrast, I did see East and Eastern Pike teams several times this past season and Bradford and Fitch both do a nice job in that regard. However, as someone already noted, I doubt Fitch will leave Eastern as his kids are enrolled there now.

Would Bradford leave East? Is he unhappy there?

Are any of the assistants from this year applicants for the varsity job?

Eaglesnest - I thought coach Shoemaker did a nice job with his kids this year. You say he lacks discipline and control? Tell me then why he went after a couple of players after the North Adams game when they were headed to the locker room without shaking hands? I think that shows discipline and control. He made those players shake hands as he has done throughout the whole year. Where you at every game?

No, definately not at every game. I saw Portsmouth play 3 games this season. Your example helps make my point. I witnessed at times player individualism and "show boating" type stuff that would have resulted in the player getting taken out by other coaches.

Again, not knocking Shoemaker at all. My statement wqas not at all personal. Just an observation that left me with the impression that he didn't seem to have as much control over the players as some others that have been discussed here.

Can anyone clarify this rumor?
Word is Shoemaker has his house up for sale.
If so, has it been up for sale a long time or just recently?
and if so, is there any meaning to it?

The Shoemaker's have had there house for sale before basketball season started, so that would have nothing to do with the rumor mill.

That's a lot of openings to fill. One thing people have to remember....just because a coach resigns, doesn't mean he is leaving the school. That means their is no teacher openings. Almost every school district is cutting back. The day's of making a position just for a coach is going to be short lived. Also, the union requires that the job be posted to employee's in the district first. It doesn't mean they will get the job, but first crack at an interview. After that process is complete then they go outside the district.

As far as I know, none of the coaches at Minford were teachers at Minford except for Strickland. They all worked out of the school. So, are you talking about Minford or Shoemaker when you say a coach resigning, doesn't mean he is leaving the school?
