the new visitror bleachers look to be same size as the old.my guess would be around 800 or 900 people.Ironman92 wrote:How many people will the visitor bleachers hold?
We were 1 dimensional in 1990....if we were 1 dimensional now then history might repeat itself....gotta run and pass in the playoffs.
Were you on the 1990 team as a sophomore or were you just a catcher on the baseball team for Gibby?

No games in Lancaster anymore, there's no turf. It'll probably be held at Hamilton Township if I had to guess right now.Ironman92 wrote:We need Morgan Landrum and Nathan Parks 80+% by Friday.
If they are good to go and Jackson stays within 1 on the turnovers.....I think we'll advance on to play Jonathan Alder in Lancaster.

It may be interesting to some...but it means absolutely nothing.
If it did matter then we wouldn't be #7
Athens already defeated Gallia Academy, Warren and Chillicothe......we are not anything like those teams.
Jackson has defeated VC and Wellston....Athens is nothing like them.
Re: D III R12 Qtrs: #7 Jackson (10-0) at #2 Athens (10-0)
I'd like to hear the thoughts of the people from Waverly, Wellston, Vinton Co, Chillicothe, Warren and Gallia Academy.....at least the ones that attended the Athens and Jackson games.

I feel sorry for Athens if the Bulldogs lose this game. We will NEVER hear the end of it on here. How if Athens stayed in the SEOAL they wouldn't have been 10-0 or league champs. Athens better pull this one out.
Re: D III R12 Qtrs: #7 Jackson (10-0) at #2 Athens (10-0)
You won't hear it from me....who cares what another school chooses to do.....worst case scenario this just like Athens still being in the SEOAL and this is just a matchup for the SEOAL Championship.....I'll assume they would've throttled Logan and beat Portsmouth.
Re: D III R12 Qtrs: #7 Jackson (10-0) at #2 Athens (10-0)
And bulldog.....if history must repeat itself...you can hope for 1990 and I'll hope for 2006.

Ironman92: I don't know how many people the bleachers hold, but I was surprised that they were as small as they were. For a school of Athens size and since they started from the ground up with their new field, I really expected bigger visitor's bleachers. On Friday, the gates opened at 4:30 pm within an hour, the bleachers were already packed. I can't imagine that they hold 800-900, but I suppose it's possible. Maybe we are just too fat at NY
.
As far as the game goes, before last Friday I would have said Jackson would thump Athens bigtime. Now that I've seen them play in person, I can't say that. Athens is FAST. Their replacement quarterback is a sophomore, but plays like a very seasoned player. When they were on their roll in during the entire first half, their receivers were not only open, but wide open. Many times, they had two receivers in the vicinity with nary a Buckeye to be seen. Of course, their running game is already well documented. Devon Sharp is not only both fast and quick, but he is very difficult to bring down once you get your arms around him. However, as I understand it, he may have a nagging injury and was very slow to get up several times against us. Their kicker is from their soccer team and he just suited up this week, but he is good. Expect him to hit his PAT's and maybe even a couple of field goals. Their defense is both tough and tenacious. Our fumbles, interceptions and lack of offense in the first half can attest to that. On the plus side, we had success against them in the second half, but their offense and defense both stood up and did what was necessary to win the game. DO NOT underestimate them the way NY clearly did. If you only knew how much it pains me to say all of those things....
Athens is playing at home, but I don't think it will be as big of an advantage as some might think. The way their new stadium is designed doesn't make it feel like an intimidating place to play. Everything just seems so open and distant from the field. The noise isn't bothersome and the environment just seemed a little lacking. Jackson is close enough to Athens that the stadium may be even more packed than it was agaisnt NY. The size of your crowd will be a great equalizer. Oh, and parking sucks. Just be preapred to either arrive VERY early or walk a fair distance.
As for the game, Jackson is very tough this year as usual. If you play good, hard, physical defense I think you will wear them down in the second half and win.

93 is referencing the 1990 game that ESPN (Scholastic Sports America) came to for a story on Athens QB Bubba Lichtenberg. Jackson got hosed to make for a good story, although it was awesome watching John Lehew chase after the officials following the game. Athens ended up going to the playoffs that season, while Jackson just missed out.
In covering Gallipolis this season, I have seen both teams beat the Blue Devils. Sorry 93, but Jackson (my alma mater) is getting ready to bully the Bulldogs.
And if karma is what you say it is, then you should be very careful. SG-Wahama Wk 8 thread if you have any questions.

ESPN was there to watch Bubba....but how many yards did Marty Exline end up with? 301?
How did the playoff game go? 42-0?

Would have been the same had Jackson (or any team from Southeastern Ohio) made the playoffs I92 ... DeSales was feroucious - led by defensive NG Luke Fickel.Ironman92 wrote:ESPN was there to watch Bubba....but how many yards did Marty Exline end up with? 301?

(BTW) No sophomores even sniffed the field in 1990 - and only one junior played regularly (Jason Repp) - the rest were seniors ... The senior class was so good that year in everything, I didn't play varsity baseball as a sophomore either (got to be the bullpen catcher once the JV season was over and Athens entered the tourney though ... lol)
BUCKEYE_BACKER - Very nice post man ... Sounded like an honest opinion.

J/K doggy
We had our DeSales matchup in the regional finals 6 years later....they were still awesome...but we were up 6-0 midway thru the 3rd....with one of our top players out.

Just curious. What history are you hoping to see repeated from 2006? I'd rather not lose in OT in the playoffs.

Haha. Ahh, I see. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one, but I'd love to see it.
