Both teams have gobs of talent and are well coached.
With that said, Jackson has just way more horsepower than Athens.

I would inspect that bread closely, I think their is some green mold on your white bread.

Geeze people play nice. Right now the last 10 weeks mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Both teams are for all intents and purposes 0-0. Right now the health and injuries of the teams, is paramont. The kids are the important part here not any of the ramblings, ravings and finger pointing. I am a person on the outside of both teams. Remember the points system depends on how well the teams you beat do in the remainder of the season. Once the game is over it is HISTORY and you need to become a fan of every team you defeat. SO what one team finished #2 and the other #7. Right now both teams are in and alot of other teams would love to be. So, enjoy the ride, and when the clock hits 00:00 in the fourth the answer will be evident for all to see.
And just one more little item. The final score of a game does not always indicate how close a game was. Have seen games where the final score was 3 points difference and the game was a butt whuppin from beginning to end, just did not score, have witnessed 20-30 point spereation and the game was a dog fight, when one team got all the breaks, funny bounces or was just in the right place at the right time, many things to consider. So, to the poster giving advantage based on score, many things to factor in, I just do not see this as any kind of indacator. When in the season did they play?, weather, key players dinged up, and on and on and on.
PLAY THE GAME and let the better team come out the winner.
But this is what makes it fun to read on here. Everyone has their loyalities and that is what makes it high school football.

Very Excited for this game as a former Bulldog who played in some great games against 'dem Jackson Ironpeople!

In 2000 Jackson laid it on us...
In 2001, I think we shocked a lot of Jackson fans with our ability to move the ball through the air. That ability kept us in the shootout, but on a night when Mr. Swisher scored just by touching the ball, we could not overcome that factor.
In 2002, another Jackson/Athens games that doesn't get as much hype as the '03 contest was just as thrilling. Both teams had strong Offenses, but it was a Defensive night in The Plains. In sloppy weather, both teams had to rely on their running attacks. It came down to the wire, with a Jared Humphrey pass being intercepted by Grant Gregory in the endzone.
In 2003, the game most people remember, it was a Juggernaut Match-Up that saw a (6-0) Athens Squad invade the Applefestival, to play a (5-1) Jackson Squad. This game was exciting from start to finish. Big plays were the highlight of the night, with Gregory hooking up with Ryan Minus & Jeremy Sebring in the closing minutes of the 2nd half just after the Athens Kicker called an onside kick without the coached consent. (He recovered it, so he survived the Half-Time talk from Coach Champlin). In the 2nd Half, running plays were the treat with Mr. Humph breaking off some big runs for Jackson and Chris Hewitt for Athens. In the closing minutes of the ball game, Gregory found Mingus and Hewitt on several passes to move Athens down the field. The Jackson Defense forced Athens to the limits leaving Athens with a 4th and Goal to keep the game alive. Gregory found Hewitt coming across the field, where he broke a few tackles and scored. I know everyone held their breath on the extra point to tie the game, but Hewitt split the uprights. The Score was tied 36-36 with less than a minute to go. Jackson made the big play they needed of the kick-off return, that set up the Freshman Soccer Player's kick of his life, with a Field Goal to give Jackson the 39-36 Victory...
*The Biggest Swing in this ball game was The Ironman Defense keeping our Offense from scoring at the Goal Line, then taking over on their own 2 yard line, Mr. Humph caught the Dogs bringing the house in an attempt to safety him, and broke the play outside for a 90 some yard touchdown run that evened the score...Athens could have went up 14, instead Jackson tied it up....and the rest is tears for Bulldogs and cheers for Ironmen....

One last comment about this Big School/Lesser Teams thing that maniac66 cannot stop beating his chest about!

I know for a fact that our Athens team when I played (and the Jackson team as well) never felt well, Logan is the Bigger School, we better not even show up. They are guaranteed to win because they were 1 or 2 Divisions higher then us. We knew that we were a strong D2 or D3 school depending on what year it was playing a strong D1 team. We knew we were Athens or Jackson playing Logan. Much to the same situation we now see in the TVC-Ohio. Athens being the bigger school in the league (D3), knows just because we are the bigger school doesn't mean we are automatically going to win the contest (see D3 Vinton County for comparison). That is why they actually let these kids play the games of Friday. This is not fantasy football won on paper, they allow a game to be played by two teams. That is why when we play a (D4 or D5) Alexander or a (D5) Nelsonville-York, we know they are going to bring their 'A' game. We know that the Divisions don't play a factor in League Games! Divisions are important for the Play-Offs...I would some think someone whose team is Ironton would understand this, but like the other Ironton posters said, I won't hold his comments against them. I respect what Ironton football is about and have great respect for their Coach...

About the game this Friday...
I think the billing has all the Firepower the 2003 Contest had...
QB's that can move the ball, RB's that can run the ball, and Stingy Defenses...

I know this old #2 for the Dogs would love to go back and replay that 2003 game...
But since I can't, I will have to give all my excitement and encouragement to these 2011 Bulldogs...

Boy I can tell this is going to be a heated topic all week! It may break some records, its not even monday yet. Heard these two teams dont like each other. A friend of mine said they had a little scuffle at a 7 on 7 camp this summer, now there will be pads involved!!

Your not too fat yet questionmark ... Throw the pads on and get out their Friday ... We could use a 1-2 punch (w/Sharp) to knock this Ironmen team out.

You help take care of things on the field ... I'll take care of Ironman02 under the bleachers ... And we'll call it a day and move on to next week.

I wasn't at the 7-on-7 during the summer, but I did hear the same thing.

These are old rivals who haven't played for a few years, they'll be playing a regular season game again starting next year, and they've already had an intense battle during the summer. All of those things should add even more to the intensity that we'll see on Friday.

Scuffle, rivalry, intensity ... Now these are words I like to hear!

Nothing like seeing good ol fashion slobber-knockers once the playoffs start.

1995 Joey Boggs should've been the SEOAL MVP.

We kicked Jackson's butt - knocked em out of the playoff's - won in the closing minutes with a pass in the back of the endzone (with ESPN cameras rolling) ... Uh, that about sums it up JHS08.

Oh wait, I92 might chime in say you guys got ripped off - but don't listen to him - he's probably just a little salty still.

The 2003 AHS-JHS affair was easily the best high school football game I have ever seen. Close to 1,100 yards of total offense between two great teams and two Division I signees at QB. Gregory was at Indiana and K-State, while Humphreys played baseball at Kent State.

And in the end, it all came down to a field goal.

Gallia Academy won the SEOAL title that year, BTW.

Huge game, everything on the line...game on ESPN and everyone was all about Bubba Lichtenburg (sp) as he was the QB of Athens and his Dad was the coach at OU. Athens won with some great play and the star was Marty Exline of Jackson who I believe ran for 301 yards.

2003 was pure luck! We should have never tried to throw the ball 4 straight times inside the Jackson 10-yard line ... We had a great tail-back and did't even go to him.

Meh....didn't expect to win. The stories back then were how great Bubba and Co were. It was the first away game I ever drove to.

I was there that night as well, and I-92's assessment of the 1990 game was dead-on. :!:

(Bet you thought you'd never see that, did you 92?)
