Ninth time I've been right in the last 12 years. These things happen.bdubya wrote:I was there that night as well, and I-92's assessment of the 1990 game was dead-on.93Bulldog wrote:JHS08 wrote:Oh wait, I92 might chime in say you guys got ripped off - but don't listen to him - he's just probably a little salty still.
(Bet you thought you'd never see that, did you 92?)
Nothing like a golfer and a cross country runner agreeing on a football thought.

Can we verify the 301 yards or is my misremembering way off?ironman02 wrote:1990: Athens 42 - Jackson 38

Oh, I was definitly salty I92 ... And working for a guy, who is from Jackson & loves Jackson football, for three years was extremly tough let me tell ya ... It allowed my 'bitterness' over the 03 game to linger and fester ... I really need the 'Dogs to win Friday so I can allow that frustration to finally go away.
( I have the artice from the 1990 game and I believe it was 301 yards I92 ... The guy was an absolute BEAST!)

Yeah, I know....on a suicide bunt my sophomore year he plowed me as I bunted and flipped me on my back....got the bunt down though!

Yeah, 301 sounds about right. That might have even been the single game record until Shane Wolford ran wild in Logan in 1996.
Can't remember for sure, though, and I'm still working on getting individual statistics from over the years.

I may be wrong but was the 1990 game where jackson intercepted or athens cant remember but the refs said it was not and teams changed off/def then refs said it was int then teams change off/def again and jackson flagged for illlegal substitution. terrible call but as i recall jackson couldn't stop pass and athens couldn't stop run didn't really effect outcome

Found the article from 1990:
Marty Exline 28 carries - 294 yards and scored 4 TD's.
(BTW) Jackson 186 yards in penalties.

I believe Bubba went on to Ohio University to fail as a wideout and later became the long snapper just to play, if memory serves. Lettered in 93 and 94.93Bulldog wrote: ... The guy was an absolute BEAST!
BEAST!
Some other reading.

The cool thing about Exline was that he was a FULLBACK ... Mapes was the tail-back for Jackson ... (Morgan was the QB) ... You just don't see big fullbacks getting carries anymore.

FB David Swisher and TB Eron Brenner (Brennan)? JHS, was it 2002?
Swisher was SEOAL MVP.
See it more than you realize at Jackson.

Swisher and Brennan were 2001 football season, Class of 2002.
TJ McDonald was another FB at Jackson that got the majority of the carries in 2003. Of course, Humphreys was carrying the ball a lot as a QB too.

Oh I know bdubya ... After the 1990 gig - Jackson was, lets say a little ticked off at us, and really brought the hammer down with a 50-12 thumping in 1991 ... lol ... Fullback Kevin Whetstone did most of the damage with 164 yards and 6 TD's ... I think I still have a knott on my head from trying to tackle that guy.
In 1992, another fullback LARRY RAFFERTY did the same thing to us.

Why would Jackson be a little ticked off at Athens after the 1990 game?
Hopefully Rob Meacham, Clint Houser, and Jaiman Wackler ran into you a few times after 1990.

Oh, I knew Clint very well ... Cracked heads with him numerous times ... He was a pretty darn good baseball player too. Jeff Rouse was actually the tail-back in 1992 and Jason Lanhart was a pretty good player (he even played in the 1990 game as a sophomore.)
