If you would look at the seniors and juniors on the Minford roster this year, then you would know why they aren’t a JV team. They are two seniors and four juniors, five sophomores and five freshmen that make up the varsity squad. I am thinking maybe four freshmen did get cut or booted because there was no JV team for them to play on. The JV team is making up the Varsity and you can’t keep 21 kids with nine of them being freshmen. All I can think of is that Coach Chili must made your kid or your friend of a friend kid run some poles or maybe ripped him for wearing green sox’s to a game and little Junior must have went home packing. If they can not handle Coach Chili they would never make it with Coach Martin. Coach Martin has been around a long time and he knows who he wants coaching the JV team. They would have been 14 JV kids if the Varsity would have had a full Squad of juniors and seniors. So I guess (ThurstonHowellIII) you have an issue with Coach Chili or Coach Martin. Maybe if you had your facts strait instead of listening to hearsay. But either way I am sure either would be more than delighted to have a little chat with you on this issue. They will be at practice working out the kids putting in there time getting the kids ready for the season. You might want to wear you ear plugs though one of the player might be calling out a fly ball in the infield to loudly, or maybe the catcher might be moving the 3rd baseman in line for a throw to the plate during infield or outfield warm ups. My goodness a coach might yell too loudly!!!!! Heavens Forbid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ThurstonHowellIII... Listen up lovey! My son played football for Chilli and baseball in Tim's program as well! Chilli is one of the best coaches that Minford has had period! He has coached pee-wee football; baseball; jr.-high football; baseball; helped on Fridays with H.S. football and coached H.S. level of baseball! I've know Randy for over 20 years and have never known for him to do the things you are saying! He might holler at them or get on them in practice but, never ever humiliate a player at any level; much less in front of any other players!

This smells of someone has a kid or releative that got cut or wasn't quite the Barry Bonds they thought they were! If you can't swing the lumber and are not willing to work at it to become better; then maybe they can become real good at running the poles!

Plain and simple... Chilli may rip a players arse once in awhile - but, not what the resident of Gilligan's Island is making! Sounds as if Thurston is trying to ship wreck the Minford skippers!

Chilli... Tim... you have my support and many others in the Minford area! Good Luck Falcons!

I looked at last year's roster. I am not trying to hurt any one's feelings but I don't see any one not playing this year that would actually be playing on the varsity this year.

I wasn't going to post again and thought this would be island news by now. So axe n shield and jungle cat these 8 players from last year's jv team all of the sudden had a awakening and decided not to play? Your correct and it is probably just a coincidence they didnt play this year. I never doubted coach martin and from what I here he is a heck of a coach and a good man and I never said anything about him other than positive. as for the other one you mentioned (chili) I never heard of him by name until now but he must be the one that coached jv last year. i have nothing bad to say about him. i just replied to a thread that asked why are the numbers declining and stated a reason i had heard. oh those 8 players-

Tyler Phipps
Taylor Smith
Drew Smith
Levi Munn
Derrick Newsome
Kyle Goodwin
Craig Miller
Brock Partlow

like I said, it appears to only be a coincidence, falconater..what you say may be true but the question is where have the players gone and why. you all are right kids should be tougher and be able to take the cussing, name callings and humiliation and not be taught anythnig.

Not in Meigs County the numbers aren`t declining as Southern & Eastern all have had big numbers for the past few years as well as Meigs. Winning probably helps that as all have done pretty well so far this decade.

Often times, many of the kids that are in AAU aren't the quality enough to be there, but sometimes the parents are re-living the olden days through their kids with it.

I agree and it isn't just AAU. High school football and basketball coaches who threaten kids are contibuting to it as well.
