First of all, I am a huge Reds fan and have always been, but the bats need to come. It is amazing that Cincy has a winning record so far with the league's worst batting average of .208.

I agree with you. They have to get on base more and drive in some runs.

On the other hand pitching and defense is hauling the mail right now.
I do think that the hits will come, give them some more time to get the batting order worked out to get the guys in the right spots.
What really suprises me is the fact that Dusty talked about having a team that wants to run a lot and they don't attemped that many more steals than they have in the last few years at this point.

I guess base stealing has become a 'science' and that they measure the time it takes for the pitcher to deliver the pitch and how long it would take the catcher to throw it to second (set 1), and how long it takes the potential runner to make it to second (set 2) and if the two sets are close they don't even try.

I think that is going by the number way too much.

Although not necessarily directly related to the Reds,

I also hate the managers who make a ptching change to put a lefty reliever against a lefty batter and then change pitchers again after one hitter. What ever happened to the good old days when Rollie Fingers would pitch three inninngs and get a save?

They need a clutch hitter like Perez. He was always my favorite. He hit the key homer in game 7 in the '75 Series that allowed the Reds to win it in the ninth on Morgan's bloop single RBI. Everyone remembers Fisk's homer in game 6 but the Reds won arguably the best Series ever the next night. I always loved the Reds but learned to respect the Red Sox then, also.

I did not understand why they had Taveras at first and guy on third, and Taveras does not try to steal second. Did any body else notice that?

How about Ryan Hanigan! 3 for 3 at throwing down runners. He is a rifle behind the plate.

I think as the season goes on he will catch a lot more games than any one thought he would. That guy is a darn good catcher!!!!!!!!!
A couple of years and he may be one of the best in the game.

If we keep finding ways to win this could be a fun season!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Johnny Cueto was stellar on the hill and went 2-for-2 at the plate to help the Cincinnati Reds edge the Chicago Cubs, 3-0, in the middle tilt of a three-game set from Wrigley Field. Cueto (1-1) went seven innings and gave up just four hits and fanned three batters in the process. Francisco Cordero gave up just one hit in the ninth to get his sixth save of the year. With the save he becomes just the 11th player in major league history to record 100 saves in each league. Jay Bruce went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for the Reds, who have won three of four overall. Willy Taveras and Joey Votto drove in the other runs in the win. Ted Lilly (2-1) was the hard-luck loser, as he went seven innings and gave up an unearned run on five hits with a pair of strikeouts. Alfonso Soriano and Derrek Lee had two hits each to account for the lion's share of the six hits from Chicago, which saw its three-game winning streak halted.
