Re: BCAF-Wrestling- Warren High School 3-27-09
The results are really immaterial; the organizers intent was to let the wrestlers wrestle this season's weight class without weigh ins.(as long as they were within 15lbs.)
When Pkg. South's favorite son showed up all that changed. He didn't want his kid to get beat by Tyler Reed, so he insisted that every one weigh in. All the weight classes were realigned so that the match-ups favored the wood co wrestlers. Even with this huge advantage, our kids held their own, and gave good account of themselves.
Wood Co. had 5 state champs, 7 state placers, and 2 state qualifiers. Wash. Co. 2 state qualifiers.
The final score was 34-19. *designates st placer. **state champ.
Bryce Gainer (ps)d. Travis Efaw 9-5
*Jake Fordyce (ps)d. Tyler Crislip 10-0
**David Jeffrey (Ps) d. Garrett Kerr 5-1
*Tyler Reed. (Wat) d *Cody kelley 7-0
**Kyle Bratke (p) d Noah Cech 5-2
**Tyler Green (ps) d (freshman) Justin Hasley 11-3
*Tyler George(Wil) d Todd Packard tf
*Ashton Packard d * Chad Morrison( p) 15-7
**Andy Church d Mike Bauman (m) 5-0
Phillip Wiggers d* Mark Board (wil) 5-1
Justin Rohr pinned * David McCoy (ps)
If the format had been expanded to include Caldwell, NY, and Athens. the wva. team would have been hard pressed to win one match.

gpgm6566: i agree with you. WV could be beat with the addition of some NY and Athens wrestlers. Maybe next year we could include some athens county wrestlers also.

The WV State Champions barely beat 3 kids from Ohio that could not even qualify to the Ohio state tournament. One of the Ohio kids could not even qualify for the District Tournament.

You should have seen the comments on wvmat.com; "Southeastern Ohio the armpit of wrestling", "The match was an embarrassment for the Wash Co team" They bragged about the Whuppin that state champ Tyler Green put on Freshman Hasley. They let these negative comments remain on the thread until I made an attempt to defend our position (I used no negatives) then the mod. removed some of the posts, including mine. Check it out.
I thought that Marietta's and Warren's young kids gave pretty good account of themselves.

Didn't W.Va. bring some off season competative team? Insist that everyone make weight, etc.,etc. This was a BENIFIT wrestling thing. If some spouted off, sorry. Most of the Ohio kids had no idea they neded to make weight for a NON-Competative event. Someone lost sight, unfortunate, Possibly on both sides of the river. Hope this can all be corrected and the event continue. Thought that Proctor dia bang-up job on getting this organized.
