Re: SOC denies Portsmouth, South Gallia
Portsmouth and South Gallia were voted on separately. The talk of even more schools hurt also I think. Some of the small schools feel that South Gallia is just too far to travel.

South Gallia would be a good fit for the OVC, but River Valley is in that conference so that will not happen.

BlizzardMan, just a question for you. How is the OVC a good fit for South Gallia outside of travel. South Gallia has 101 boys and 109 girls, how does that compare to the size of schools in OVC?

IMO if Portsmouth and SG want in there should be room for them... what does the league have to lose from adding them. I only see an win/win situation here.

mtswngrvsg,
They would be the smallest school, but not much smaller than Chesapeake or Coal Grove especialy. Probably less than 50 kids difference or so.

The folks from West that had the vote on Portsmouth don't get on here and post.
Although it was positive from Ports. West to put Portsmouth in.

Re: SOC denies Portsmouth, South Gallia
But a huge difference between South Point. The other difference is that all the OVC schools except for River Valley and Rock Hill are located in a small town. That makes a big difference and if you notice which schools have the majority of the success in the OVC.
I doubt if things work out in starting a league with schools across the river.
Things will stay as they are for a long time-that includes the leagues and the current status of Portsmouth and South Gallia.

Re: SOC denies Portsmouth, South Gallia
I really hate to hear this. I was wanting to see SG get in the SOC and I thought we had a good chance to do so. It would have been nice to open up brand new facilities in a new league.
My question is this. Everyone says that SG is not a good geographical fit in the SOC. How far of a trip does everyone think it is from SG to Symmes Valley? It is 20-30 minutes. Most schools would use either Rt. 7 to get to SG or US 35 and SG is alot more accessible using those routes than Symmes Valley.
SG and Western would be the longest league game in the whole league I am guessing. If you look at Mapquest you will be surprised by the results since it shows the travel time being a whole 1 minute further for Western to come to SG than it is for them to go to Symmes Valley. The ride to SG would not be that bad at all.
I am just a little dissapointed that we could not get in the SOC. I thought us playing a full SOC football schedule would get us the help we needed to get in but it didnt. It is nice of the SOC commitee to think of SG for consideration though. Looks like it is back to the independent days for the Rebels.

Re: SOC denies Portsmouth, South Gallia
There are some Soc schools that crap through feathers. The Trojans would be a good addition to the league. Quite a few SOC teams already play PHS in all sports. Crow about beating them and don't have to worry about losses in the league. What a load.
