Post by JacksonI »

I dont think enough people has stated their comments reguarding how good/bad jackson will be this year, everyone is just concerned about Andy Hall being the head coach..Lets get back to the basic's and talk about the JACKSON IRONMEN FOOTBALL TEAM...
I say week 1
Jackson 42 Wellston 14

Wellston will be really improved this year and will have better players than Jackson. I predict a very close game with Wellston wining.

Doesn't Wellston have a really strong senior class? I would say that Jackson better not underestimate the Rockets. The Ironmen will have to come out and play a solid football game to get the win.

Ironman02

Maybe you dont realize the seniors jackson has this year they may not be the biggest but they have more heart than almost any other class ive seen in a while. As well as the upcoming soph, and juniors they should be in good shape i say 7-3

Im pretty sure ironman02 has a pretty decent idea about what he is talking about. As for the Wellston game: until the Rockets prove they can win this game, which hasn't happened in nearly 2 decades, I believe it would be a real stretch to predict that they will get the win.

Anyone know what kind of offense/defense we can expect from Coach Hall?

I wasn't doubting this year's Jackson team or the senior class. Irish08 said that Wellston doesn't have anyone returning and that's not true. Wellston is returning a lot from last year if I remember correctly, including quite a few guys who have been starters at the varsity level since they were sophomores. Because of this, Jackson cannot be overconfident going into the Wellston game. The second you start overlooking someone, that's when they will beat you. I don't want that to happen and I honestly don't think it will. I just want to see a focused Jackson football team in Week 1 that will make it 19 in a row.

What kind of offense?
-look for many different things from the ironmen this year maybe i formation one play the next no huddle 5 wide:it should be exciting

What kind of defense?
-Hall said he wanted people blitzing, he said he wanted the ironmen's defense to look like the steelers/ravens defense. So who knows?

It seems that Jackson H.S. has scored twice with one shot here. You not only get by all accounts a good young coach, but also a really good veteran in Larry Hall.
How long has it been since the elder Hall was at the Burg?

I'll answer my own question ...
Larry Hall coached Wheelersburg from 1992-98, according to burgfan.com. Avg. season record during that time 9-2.
BTW, burgfan.com is a really nice site. Good job!

I think they will go 6-4 give him a year to established not only a program at the varsity level but through out Jackson schools. Longetivity is key he needs to stay at least 4 to 5 years to have a program that is competitive and keeps the kids intrest!! Only playing 10-15 kids is why numbers have been low the last couple of years need to coach and develop players not just be satisfied with the natural talent you have!!

Will the community give him a year to establish a program? That would be the big question. There is a lot of pressure on Jackson this year to win the Wellston game. If this group loses to Wellston, how do you think the Jackson community will take to this? I say they will be calling for the coaches head after week 1. But I could be wrong. Jackson just seems to never be pleased with coaches. Look at their past 5 years of coaching. I know a lot had to do with the past AD but man, there has been a lot of turnover!!

Exactly, with stability comes a program and I also whole heartedly agree with developing talent rather than take the easy street and only play the kids that can naturally play the game. I have seen that happen at GAHS over the past few seasons and it has started a decline in numbers here as well along with lack of work from the kids from top to bottom. If kids think they aren't going to play, why put in the time. If positions are eanred and hard work awarded then everyone will strive to become better. I am glad JHS has a new coach that seems to be ambitious and willing to remodel a proud football program.

I will say one thing about JHS-WHS this year. I know alot changes with teams from year to year and last years teams may not have been a solid representation of what will be on the field for either team this coming season, but I cannot see this year being any different than the past 18 years and if it is then the new coach may take alot of heat. NO comparison between those two programs. If Jackson has ANY speed at all they will run away from WHS unless of course their is a MAJOR improvement in the speed department of WHS program. WHS was easily the least athletic team GAHS faced all year long last season and they were not a real strong physical type either. Would have been the worst team in the SEOAL w/o question.

Now saying that wellston has no returning talent is a huge understatement... along with having very good talent wellston has been working hard and getting better everyday.. And i believe the rockets will be very good.. yes, wellston has not won in awhile but every streak ends sometime and when you least expect it.. wellston has Wilkett, Darnell,Matteson, pratter and a improved O line.. and if you forgot, the game was close until the end last year..

That is true Irish08 the only thing that matters is the score when the scoreboard times reaches 0:00
