Federal Hocking Coaching Position
I have been asked by the school system to inform the members of this forum the following information. Please note that this is not an "official message", but my own words, based on what I was told this evening.
Federal Hocking Boys Varsity Basketball Coach, Chris Elscessor (sp), has declined the school board's offer of another year of coaching the boys program at Federal Hocking. Chris' enthusiasm, energy, basketball knowledge, and leadership skills will be missed. Coach E made alot of friends in the Federal Hocking community in a short period of time. I speak for many, you will be missed. Coach - you have my number, call me tomorrow afternoon if you want to talk.
The school board would like to let interested parties know that the coaching position will be open for all applicants, but more importantly, there is going to be an open physical education position open (full time) in the school district for the first time in a very long time. Parties interested in the PE teaching position will be considered for the Boys Varsity Coaching position, if they are interested in coaching.
Good luck to Coach E, wish you the best in whatever you decide to do in terms of coaching.

I too am sad to see Coach E go but I understand how long that drive must be. Good Luck to Chris and I hope things work out well.
As for the open coaching position, the available teaching job may attract some interesting applicants...

With all the financial difficulty's in the school how would the pay structure compare with the new job as to say an Athens, Minford, Portsmouth or a McClain? Hopefully they will find a good young candidate that will start with the program and grow with it. That program was so dominate for so many years. It seems like there are a lot of openings around Southeastern Ohio basketball. Coaching isn't what it use to be. Good luck to the Lancers in your search for a new Coach.

This program is due for some stability. I think FH should hire someone who would most assuredly stay with the program for a long time. Then, the school should be willing to show patience with the coach, and only fire him for off-the-court issues or total ineptitude on the court.
The second factor should be coaching style. Will the kids enjoy playing for him? If so, hire him if he knows some basketball and has a strong interest in the job. The kids need to have fun playing basketball, while still trying to win.

Is it my imagination or is it the posters from Trimble that keep the pot stirred? Hmmm....

I am going to take the high road and not acknowledge what I am sure many want me to and publicly crush, from an intellectual standpoint, the asinine post that a young person from up glister-trouble way submitted earlier.
Once again, I will take the high road. This person who decided to try and derail this thread, and make others look bad, will get their comeuppance, when all is said and done.
Why this young person felt it was within right to express themselves in this manner is beyond me...........................

We too are very sorry to see Coach E leave the program. He taught much more than just basketball. Best wishes for future endeavors and understandably that was a long drive to Stewart every day!!
Also best wishes to the board and administration as they seek to fill this coaching position. And finally to the class of 2010, don't give up, don't ever give up. Fighting through this kind of adversity will only make you better men!!

Are you sure the driving wasn't just an excuse. I mean Federal really has nothing coming back and nothing coming up for a while. Maybe he got out while the getting was good. I'd say it was a goo choice on his part.

From what I'm hearing the PE position is being filled In-house, so that will not be an open position to offer a coach.

Federal Hocking is still looking at more teacher cuts, I can't see that there would be a position for sure. Everything is very uncertain at this time !

Re: Federal Hocking Coaching Position
If it was filled internally, without the coaching position in conjunction with the teaching job, I am sure that there is a very good reason for the school board to do so.
Word should be out anyday now on who has filled the teaching position, and then each can draw their own conclusion.
