As of yet, none that I have heard, but that doesn't mean that there haven't been some applicants.

(Athens 78 Wrote: Are you sure the driving wasn't just an excuse. I mean Federal really has nothing coming back and nothing coming up for a while. Maybe he got out while the getting was good. I'd say it was a goo choice on his part.)

People who only coach because they believe a school has "talent" and then leaves when they think the "talent" is slim are really not coaches. They are just individuals with over inflated egos that ride on the shirttails of teen-agers to bolster their own personal ego. REAL coaches and teachers do just that..............and tada.............those are the programs that just keep winning regardless of who is in the ranks because they are "taught" the game of basketball.

It may be a long time before this basketball program gets back on its feet. To the class of 2010 who will be having their 4th coach in 4 years..............kudos to those players that will brave it their Senior year. That is a crying shame for a class that was loaded with talent their freshman year and then they were slowly dismantled by a dysfunctional program.

Hopefully they will find someone like Bob Vales or Joe Butcher to take over the program. Heck maybe they will bring back Paul (the general) Pettit. From what I've been told by insiders at Federal this group of Junior and Seniors gave no effort during the summer for Vales. Didn't want to attend anything, but it's because they committed to baseball and football which in fine, but when you don't touch a basketball from late February to November your not going to be very good. Also I understand the coach that just left was getting no commitment from the players for this summer. I'm sure Federal will be back on top some day. I wish they played Athens this year we could use an easy win.

coaches that make kids play year round are selfish. kids have to end up deciding which sport they want to play, cuz some coaches want them to just play their sport. thats why i like coach faires. he doesnt care if we play other sports. he doesnt try to make us do stuff all year round just to help his teams. yet he still wins.

Nice post athens, I agree totally except for the Athens needing an easy win, I don't have a dog in that fight but totally agree about not touching a basketball between seasons. Bball players are made in the summer. I am sure that no coach, E included, expected any kids to give up priors to help "his cause" but any player wanting to get better at any sport needs to practice. 24/7 no but these are kids, they aren't going to wear out playing baseball or lifting for football then hitting the floor for a little bit also. Might even help with the cardio?? I don't know the factors in E leaving but he is not a quitter and I can't imagine that drive especially thru the work week when having to deal with daily life ie shopping, cleaning, laundry, eating, and a heavy dose of coaching with all involved in it.

I think Fed Hock has some very good players returning, and several players from the JV who should contribute next season...

Key Varsity Players Returning (Hopefully)

Thompson (Sr)
Clark (Sr)
Torrence (Sr)
McCune (Sr)
Rex (Jr)
Campbell (Sr)

JV Players most likely to see Varsity minutes...

Skidmore (So)
Sharp (Sr)
Hatfield (So)
Saylor (So)

ANY summer basketball would really help this group. This past season's JV team fared ok in the TVC-Hocking...

Good luck to Chris in whatever he does.
I've known him for a few years and he's a good guy.
I could see where a 100-plus mile round trip every day could wear on a person.
Speaking from experience, it's a tough gig to be a coach but not be a teacher at that school. And then to not live in the community, it's difficult to create really close bonds with the kids and their families.
Hopefully, Fed Hock will find a quality guy to replace Chris.
Good luck, Lancers!!!

In the first group of players you mentioned did they average a total of 20 points combined total?

Not sure of the stats from last year, but I have a hunch that they will score next year...and had better BOX OUT and REBOUND, or the lack of size is going to make for a tuff season....

Athens 78, The lancers have the talent to win, they have some nice ball players coming back also.
and yes at lease 20 points were averaged a game by these players coming back. Coach E did
what he could with his type of play. I think the kids just didn't get it till close to the end of the season.
It was a tuff road for him and the kids. Him being a outsider nobody new and the kids having their 3rd
coach in 3 years. As for past coaches Butcher went to coach his daughter and Vales left because of a school
issue. Saying the kids are not committed is wrong. I do know that the kids was not asked to play during the summer
and that was because of the school issue, that's when Vales left. Also Coach E did tell me himself that it was the drive and
I can not blame him. These kids will play in the summer if somebody will coach. The fathers of these kids have done it for
a long time and done a good job, but for some reason the do not want a father to coach. If you look at the past years when the dads
where coaching, look at there records vs coaches that where not dads.
Maybe Butcher, Vales and Chadwell just had alot of talent, but they where good coaches also, and the talent is still there.
Nothing against Coach E great guy,and good coach, but hopefully they get somebody back that can win and knows these kids.
Go Lancers

I thought FH would have the talent to win the league last year if the right coach was hired. I don't think that will be the case this year. Eastern will be back on top if the kids dedicate themselves to what Howie wants them to do. The main thing for FH is to hire someone that will put the time in during the off season the way Howie does at Eastern. :12224

Eastern must be expecting great things next year if Steegal is on here talking them up. Guy disapeared for what, the last 7 or 8 years and now he comes out spouting league championship claims.

Last I can remember seeing him on was when Cozart was a junior and senior and didn't win the league and couldn't beat the Lancers either year.

During those years the deep tourny runs made the TVC Hocking seem irrelevant. We even had a great game against the eventual state champions the one year. Thank you for bringing back those great memories to me. :12224

Nice to see that you support them only when they are winning.
