Update after Wed. game - Meigs over Belpre. Did Wellston and VC play? I saw a baseball score in the Messenger, but not a softball score. If they played, who won?
Meigs 10-1 Belpre 5-3 Wellston 5-3 Alexander 5-4 Athens 4-5 Nelsonville-York 2-7 Vinton County 0-8
Belpre won against Meigs last night 11 - 1. Meigs showed up & played with lack of emotion, heart .. while coach Cox's team played very well and along with his team .. deserves MUCH credit for the victory! Good luck to Ken Cox and the Lady Eagles from here on out!!!!!
Belpre has just been overlooked all season. The have 2 sophmores, 2 freshman, and a junior who carry most of the weight on the team. One of the freshman has been in the starting rotation for pitching all season. Mason, a sophmore is batting .543 for the season, with Leftwich, Perry, and Mcnabb all batting close to .400. If you believe all the threads you read on here, Eastern was untouchable. Belpre went there for a double header and split with them.....Mason hit one out on Turley. And the game they last was 1-0 in the bottom of the 7th on a wild throw from shortstop. Belpre just doesn't have people talking them up everyday, day in and day out about every hit, every double play...yada yada yada....and making a big deal about what should just be routine ball. And the biggest factor in the whole thing is that Coach Cox is more about making sure that everyone has equal playing time, and will sometimes sit his better players to make sure that no one is being slided any. He is just that kind of guy, and we appreciate him for who he is.....so yes Belpre is that good......We just hope Trimble keeps worrying about West!!!!! Good luck Eagles in Sectionals.
Athens ends TVC play at 5-7 while Wellston is 6-4. Wellston has makeup games now at Vinton County on Friday and at Nelsonville-York on Saturday at 1 p.m.
