Re: WEEK 9: MINFORD @ WAVERLY
smurray,
Well said. I have been to games where the drummers bang on the drum while QBs are barking out their signals and protection. The bells don't go that long into a play.
That announcer we have is crazy, but personally I like him. I think the way he changes it up with the euphamisms (sp) for penalty flags is cool.
Bottom line is Waverly showed heart so sorry I wasnt feeling well enough to make it, but I started to feel much better around 10:30.
KUDOS TO TIGERS!!!!
That is what we have to looked forward to in the next couple years.

Wasn't at this game, but I have been to a few at Waverly where the announcer crossed the line. Portsmouth guy does the same thing. You can have enthusiasm-fine. But you don't openly root or criticize officialls on the speaker. I could also see the problem with the music. This isn't college.

The rules book has no penalty for this activity. Although the OHSAA does address such matters, there is no on field enforcement by officials, although they could warn the home management (AD).

The announcer should read this document though, LOL!

Agreed. Thurston doesn't have to show up Friday.ON THE ROCKS wrote:Thurstonhowell....coward if ur talking about the Gaines kid...ur are a idiot...talk to his father yesterday he will gladly talk to u..he said u ran ur mouth last year..picking on high school kids is sorry..
I get under peoples skin and stir the pot, but singling out players is completely different.
As for the game, it probably won't go Minford's way. Valley is very good and balanced on offense. A few years ago the roles were reversed and Valley played hard and made it a very close game. Hopefully Minford will return the favor.
Re: WEEK 9: MINFORD @ WAVERLY
You sure about that??smurray wrote:Officiating crews for all SOC games are assigned by the SOC, by an official who lives in Scioto County. Waverly did not "get these refs". Waverly fans were probably more irate with the officating last night then Minford fans.

You can call the announcer just having fun but there is a fine line between having fun and acting like a jackass. He was defiantly on the jackass side and shouldnt be announcing a game the rest of the year.. heck even your chain gang was disgusted.
Re: WEEK 9: MINFORD @ WAVERLY
WOW!, it's turned into a bash the announcer thread rather than congratulating the Tigers on a great comeback. I don't think the announcing had anything to do with how the Waverly kids turned things around.
However, I'm glad coach Knight made me aware of appendix e of the manual. I had never read that. I thought I was being paid the big bucks to keep things exciting, lol. The crowd has always seemed to enjoy it, even in the midst of losses. It is never my intention to criticize an official and didn't think I did, just changing things up on the calls. The only thing different against Minford and the other games is Waverly won. Never heard any complaints in the games we lost (Piketon, Valley, Athens).
If the way I announced the Waverly/Minford game truly upset people I apologize. I have heard way too many monotone, uninspired announcers and don't want to be that, but at the same time is never my intention to upset anyone, even the visiting team/fans. By not having any officials ever say anything I figured I was within my bounds.
28Buck,
I seriously doubt the officials were hired by Waverly's AD but I can find out.

The game is over. Time to move on.
Minford controlled the first half, Waverly the second. Waverly outscored Minford and took the win. Congrats to the Tigers. This should be a learning experience for both squads!

one more thing, the SOCII doesn't have an Assignor for Football, just Basketball.

Big Dog,
I saw where a team in Florida used your infamous free kick after a fair catch rule. A kid booted a 49 yarder to win it.

Hey man Valley is the real deal this year, my goodness they beat the Burg .... they might be the next State Champs now. If I was the Falcons I wouldnt even show up, because Valley is all big and bad. Well I guess we will see when the Play-offs start. Valley's schedule will show how strong of teams they actually play. It is really nice to root for a local team, but with all this trash talk the Indians are putting out, I cant. You need to act like you have been there!!!!!!!
I hope another SOC team makes it, so I can follow the Play-offs and have someone local to Cheer on.

Re: WEEK 9: MINFORD @ WAVERLY
What a tool! Valley has played as strong a schedule as anyone in SOC II (outside of Waverly) and they have passed every test with flying colors! Every school has young fans or band waggon fans that get on here and run their mouths when things are going well... I don't see how Valley is different than anyone else on this! Most of the Valley posters that have been around a while show the other schools respect and treat others who post with respect. Sure there are disagreements but I've not seen trash like you just spewed! Trust me, I hope some other local team does make it because I'm sure Valley fans would want support from someone such as yourself!Eye Lander wrote:Hey man Valley is the real deal this year, my goodness they beat the Burg .... they might be the next State Champs now. Re: WEEK 9: MINFORD @ WAVERLY
Go right ahead. Do you really think any other SOC school wants support from someone like you? No matter where Valley finishes in any season, I'm always 100% behind EVERY SOC team in the playoffs. That's where we are all supposed to come together. If you get your feelings hurt because your team wasn't good enough this year, so be it. There are too many people who get a case of hurt-a$$ when their team isn't successful and someone else is. The kids on the field from Valley have done nothing but win and show class throughout their success. They were completely complimentary of the Burg players in their post game interview and they have a ton of respect for the Minford players in their upcoming match-up. If you want to be disrespectful to a group of kids that work hard because of some childish grudge......so long, see ya, you aren't worth the time. I'm tired of all the negativity. It needs to be dealt with and dismissed.Eye Lander wrote:Hey man Valley is the real deal this year, my goodness they beat the Burg .... they might be the next State Champs now. Re: WEEK 9: MINFORD @ WAVERLY
I honestly think a big part of it is the fact that Valley has won the SOC. about 5-6 years ago (when we joined, I WISH I could find the thread) TONS of people were bashing Valley, talking about how they are FINALLY playing a schedule, and how they will get 4 wins a year on average and NEVER win an SOC title. As the guys above me said, those of us who have been her and who are KNOWN here dont do any trash talking. There is a BIG difference in some competitive banter and flat out trash talking.
