Week 9: Nelsonville-York (8-0, 3-0) @ Alexander (6-2, 1-2)
Week 9: Nelsonville-York (8-0, 3-0) @ Alexander (6-2, 1-2)
The Buckeyes take the short trip down 33 to Albany on Friday the 21st to face the Spartans of Alexander. As you probably know, Sparty hasn't exactly played Goliath every week, while the Bucks are looking to make this 2011 season a very, very memorable one. Alexander ran over their non-league foes, got outscored by Wellston last week, and ran into the buzz saw that is Athens. Alex lost their starting center last week, and their do-it-all-mr-everything Trey Bennett in the Athens game this week. Hopefully those two young men can play against the Buckeyes come Friday night. I'll leave the series stats up to Mr. '96, but the numbers speak for themselves. The Alexander Spartans have only defeated the Buckeyes ONCE in 30-some years. I expect the trend to continue in this years contest. Maybe some Athens posters can help, but what sort of challenges will NY face in this game?

Leave your FreakTrain that is Mr.Young in the Garage because you will not need him.
Let your talented QB Dean throw the ball and throw it often.
Alexander has some big fellas upfront on both sides. However, when it comes to playing the pass, they need a lot of help. Athens threw all over them with simple routes for big gains all night long. You can expect much of the same.

What's the status of Kline and Carter for NY? Looked like Carter got his bell rung(concussion???) and Kline tweaked his leg/hip.... he's been a bit gimpy at times all year. Hope both teams are healthy.

It appears that the entire Alexander gameplan is to lean on their offensive line and run straight ahead, there doesn't seem to be a plan B. If the Buckeyes can shut down the run then the game will be over early.

This will be the 40th game in the all-time series between NY and Alexander. The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 37 wins, 1 loss, 1 tie. The two teams have played every year dating back to the 1972 season. The most points Alex has ever scored on NY in 39 games is 22 in 2005. Other than 2005, and the Alex win two years ago, the Spartans have been held to 19 or less points in the other 37 games, including 11 shutouts.
The Buckeyes are seeking revenge from their last trip to Albany that resulted in the Spartans defeating NY for the first time in school history. I'm sure the NY players will not forget that loss all week as they prepare to take care of business on Friday night and move to 9-0 on the season.

Looks like Alexander might be short handed in this game
Nelson/York out quick in this one to allow the subs some game time.

Look for NY big in this one. Alex may sneak a score in late in the 4th when we have our reserves in and they play their starters to avoid a shutout.

NY: 25-37
8/27 A Trimble (5-2) [6:23] W 42-6
9/3 A Newark Catholic (4-4) [6:23] W 34-12
9/9 H Berne Union (2-6) [5:19] W 57-0

Combined records tell part of the story. According to information on another thread last week, Alexander's strength of schedule was ranked 716th by Drew Pasteur's rating service. That is like two or three from the very bottom. Of Alex's opponents, 12 of the 19 wins are by TVC Ohio teams. So, non-league schedule? 7-40.

anyone know if Bennett is going to play?

So for the so-called football "expert" Crusty, there never was the Big Three in the TVC Ohio. N-Y defending champions, nuff said.............................you idiot.
Keep spending most of the show chirping about Trimble and the playoffs.

Even with Trey Bennett I'd give Alexander little chance of a win but without him the chance goes to zero.

Either with Trey Bennett or without him!!! I hope the Buckeyes stay focused on this game at hand against the Alexander Spartans and don't come in thinking its an Automatic win. Take it one game at a time like we have been all season and let's go 1-0 this week!
GOOOO BUCKEYES!!!!!
All in all my prediction is:
Nelsonville-York Buckeyes = 35
Alexander Spartans = 7
