Great Post!!! All I have read on here is theory and conjecture. Be it from supporters or detractors. It's over move on!

I think it's more than that. It's pure jealousy of the NY football program. Some of these schools have went a decade without beating NY. And some have never beat NY. So some people can't take that and will say negative things just because of that jealousy.

But lets face it..........NY has a top program from biddy league to junior high to high school........NY has top coaches at all levels........NY has many boys who play football and play to win........NY has state of the art facilities.......NY has a large fan following both at home and on the road.......so I guess there is a lot to be jealous about! :-D

Yeah, you got me. I am a grown man jealous of a high school football program. When I played against them at River Valley, we beat them 18-7. So doess that make you jealous? I just feel that the Super and school board were not able to do what they felt was right, and I think Coach Boston could have done things differently. I think the whole world might be jealous of the Buckeyes!!! You guys are just that awesome. I am out of high school and have no reason to be jealous. You guys just can't understand that their is a world beyond Nelsonville Ohio. And I thought Ironton fans were bad!!

We are bad because we love our football team and support our football team. But as for you you just think that since your team beat ours 1 time you are the best person around. NOT

Actually, one of the best posts I have seen yet. We are bad people for supporting our own, our team and our town. I really haven't seen or heard many people bash Mick McClelland but since you brought up the ineligible player, Mick was the principal at the time so in reality he and Davey shared in that.

I feel Mick may be the fall guy and I hope we don't lose him in our district. He has done a lot for NYHS and the community. He is an all around good guy that was put in an unenviable position.

In all fairness, I never once said that NY fans were bad people. I just do not agree with you on this topic. Take criticism like adults. I think that Coach Boston is lucky to have such a hold on the community. Now that this is over, it seems he will coach as long as he wants in NY. He has become bigger than the district administration, and personally I am not sure if that is good at all.

I agree, No coach is bigger than the administration and school district and half the people at the meeting probably had no clue other than wanting him to stay as coach because football is all they have in Nelsonville. If the man should have been going for a degree and was told 10 years ago to do it, then he should have manned up and did what he had to do instead of dragging the community into it and hiding behind them and then crying wolf when he didn't get his way. Society today is jacked up and things like this just continue to make it worse. As for the previous quote about Meigs only beating Nelsonville 1 time, I remember back in the late 60's early 70's when Nelsonville-York pulled an Athens and got out of the SEOAL when they couldn't win many games at all and Meigs handed them some of their worst defeats ever so that talk needs to cease.

You are right fanosports, he just should have done what was asked. Although he goes out of his way to help his players a lot of times, not following through on a very reasonable agreement is not setting a good example. The people of Nelsonville just had blinders on and went for the throat of the administration. I believe Coach Boston owes an apology to the school board and Superintendent for what they went through during this process. Then, he can move on.

If this were about a degree, would he not have been fired from the AD position rather than the coaching position? I am sure there are other high school varsity coaches without bachelor degrees. <--- no associate degrees, as Boston put in more time and classwork than what it takes for that...

Second, what about the AD position requires a person to have a 4-year college degree? Is it the game scheduling? Official hiring? Bus organization for away games?

It seems that people are first trying to find a way to criticize Boston, then they are choosing which "reasons" best fit the argument.

Also, I was told a while ago that Boston started to finish his degree, and then the school administration became upset that he was missing some athletic events at the school. He was asked to stop and to return to the games. I am almost certain that a degree had little to do with this...

Orestes, the AD position at NY is treated as a supplemental and not an administrative position. It is treated the same as a coaching position. It is probably split half-time with an administrator, perhaps the principal. Anybody can have an AD position when it is listed that way. It probably does not pay very well at all. Regardless, there is no reason Boston should not have done what he agred to do.
Plus, why would we waste our time criticizing a high school football coach just for the hell of it?

You seem to know an awful lot about NY for a Meigs guy.

Anyway, I believe Ohio University is still in Athens, so I'm sure a degree is still available. I have already mentioned that classes can conflict with job requirements. Some would counter that summer classes are available, but if Boston needs certain classes, they may not be available in the summer. Also, there are reasons why many people do not go to school. Time, money, and family issues may prevent a person from attending college. Those factors could hinder Boston as well.

Finally, considering that nothing said on this board will take Boston's job away, everything that is said on here is "for the hell of it." So, either you don't have anything else special to take care of during the day, you hate NY's football team, you have another NY coaching candidate in mind, you are just that much of an idealist, or you have a personal vendetta against Coach Boston.

Well yes I would. At some point you have to move on. If coach Boston had indeed been fired I would have moved on. Weather any of us like the outcome or not it is done and we have to move on. I understand your position and I respect your opinion, but whats done is done.

Or I have an opinion and believe that the adminstration was in tghe right and I am defending their actions. If he couldn't finish the degree, he shouldn't have agred to do it. What happened is Coach Boston began to believe that the rules did not apply to him. And judging by the situation, they do not.
