PARENTS OF WEST FOOTBALL FRESHMAN/JV VARISTY
JUST AN UPDATE OF CONCERN: OUR BOYS ARE SCHEDULED TO PLAY AT THE OLD MIDDLE SCHOOL. OUR TAX MONEY IS PAYING FOR THE FIELD TO BE PAINTED, HOWEVER, NO GATE FEES OR CONCESSION GOES TOWARDS OUR TEAM/BOYS. ALL MONEY GOES TO THE PEOPLE NOW RUNNING THE OLD MIDDLE SCHOOL FIELDS. I BELIEVE THIS IS WRONG!!!! OUR BOYS SHOULD BE PLAYING ON THEIR FIELD AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, THEY ARE "HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS" & IT'S "OUR TAXES THAT PAY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL FIELD". I THINK EVERY PARENTS NEEDS TO SAY SOMETHING! I'M A CONCERN GRANDPARENT THAT BELEIVES THIS IN WRONG. IF WE DON'T STAND UP....OUR KIDS WILL BE IN THE SAME SHAPE AS ADAMS COUNTY SCHOOLS-THEIR KIDS HAVE TO PAY $200 A SPORT TO PLAY....IF OUR KIDS ARE NOT GETTING GATE FEES/CONCESSION THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO GET NEW GEAR, ETC. TO RUN THEIR SPORT.
Re: PARENTS OF WEST FOOTBALL FRESHMAN/JV VARISTY
I am not from west,But I agree with you,,ALL our football teams from jr. high up,play on the new field they have,,,,
Re: PARENTS OF WEST FOOTBALL FRESHMAN/JV VARISTY
Before West built the new middle school, all the freshman games were played on the practice field where the school sits now. I believe alot of the JV games were also. They did not charge admission and didn't have a concession. They do not want alot of games played on the grass of the Varsity field. Only later in the season when the varsity is done is the varsity field used for anything other than varsity and the occasional junior varsity. I even remember the varsity scrimmaging Gallia academy, for example, on the practice field. So if these games didn't have paid admission or a concession, how are they loosing?
Besides the old field holding freshman and jv games, its used for middle school games and by the pee-wee system. It's also the main practice site for the pee-wee teams, which are the life blood of the program. They are also wanting to use the gym possibly for basketball. You have alot of people volunteering their time to try and better our youth's opportunities. It takes a ton of money to keep the site going. Several thousands just to stay in the good. If it works out, it will be great for the kids. There is a flyer that they handed out for the pee-wee homecoming that explains it all.
Honestly not to be smart, but if people really have a problem with this then fork out the 900,000 to turf the varsity field and let everyone play there.

I agree get a turf field and everyone will be happy.
You can hold many different events on the field besides football.
By the way most schools that have grass fields do not let their Freshman and JV teams play on them.

Re: PARENTS OF WEST FOOTBALL FRESHMAN/JV VARISTY
Right now we don't even have a good place for the middle school to practice. They practice in the low spot out in front of the elementary school that is so full of holes that the boys keep twisting ankles. The high school practices on the spot made for the band. The practice field to the southwest of the middle school isn't close to usable. People should be thankful that they've kept the old field usable.
About the money. The money they make off of a freshman or JV game is chicken feed compared to a varsity game. Probably don't have 75 people. The real money is made when 4-5 thousand show up for a big varsity game. They do that because we field good teams. If we don't do what's right to support the Pee-Wee through JV, the quality of the varsity teams will go down. Then your program sucks and you don't make money. Then you really suffer. Look at South Point last week. I bet they didn't have 50 people over there.

One other thing to add. It cost $40 for a kid to play flag through 6th grade. Of that the league is $1 to the good. The other $39 is for insurance and jersey's. So if they want to keep that field, they better be able to get concessions and gate money.
Re: PARENTS OF WEST FOOTBALL FRESHMAN/JV VARISTY
sorry,,never thought about the real grass.......it all sounds about right now..
Re: PARENTS OF WEST FOOTBALL FRESHMAN/JV VARISTY
It's just so expensive to install. It is nice to look at and maintenance costs go down. It allows you to host playoff games.OSU 77 wrote:I agree get a turf field and everyone will be happy.

Just me. I don't want my children playing on that stuff for years like Portsmouth does. As far as they've came with it from the old Astro-turf, it still isn't grass. It doesn't give like grass. It has to be hard on your body and the chance of injury would still have to be much greater.

WestRocks3 - We are a non-profit organization, by doing this we have been able to give theWestRocks3 wrote:JUST AN UPDATE OF CONCERN: OUR BOYS ARE SCHEDULED TO PLAY AT THE OLD MIDDLE SCHOOL. children a place to continue to play peewee football. So far we have had very few volunteers
and those who have volunteered are spending their own money for upkeep on the fields and facility,
this is why we have to charge admission. We would appreciate it if more concerned parents would
volunteer to help out. Without volunteers, donations and admission fees there is no way that we can keep the facility runing, then our children will have no place to play. As a matter of fact we lost money at this weeks Freshman game but we are more than happy to have them there for their next game so they will still have a place to play. Thanks from a West Sider that doesn't complain about other West Siders.

The exact opposite is true. Field Turf is a lot safer according to a lot of studies out there. There are no holes or real bad spots that cause a lot of slipping. Ask virtually anyone that has played on it and they will tell you it is just the same as a grass field when you land on it.siderman wrote:It's just so expensive to install. There is no one trying to take money away from our High School kids by doing this. And as far as our kids having to pay money so they can play sport at West that is why wwe have boosters and the extra point club. If you are that concerned about our kids volunteer to help one of these groups dont get on here and complain about people who are doing things to help the kids in our community.

I personally have kids that play on all levels at West and am very proud and excited that the old middle school has formed a committee in order to hold games there. It sure beats sitting on a hill watching a JV/Freshman game as it was years ago at West. Besides that if there were gate fees those fees don't all go to the football team. I personally want to thank all of those who have went thru the hard work to allow use of very nice complex that a "TRUE WESTSIDER" should be very proud of.

football,
in it's purest form,
is only played on natural turf.
for the love of being a west sider,
may the field forever remain true to form!
it's not about the injuries,
it's not about the money,
it's not about the prestige,
it's not about the usage,
it's not about the lack of mudholes,
it's not about friggin' bandcamp!
it's about football,
and football is made to be played on natural turf.
period.

Actually test better on impact and force than grass fields. Do a little research and come back with a new argument.siderman wrote:It's just so expensive to install.
