If you ever been to the Burg then you know it is almost impossible to have a track meet and a baseball game at the same time since they are right next to each other. Not only would the crowd be almost too much for the facility to handle you have the chance of a foul ball going into the track area and injuring a runner that is concentrating on his/her race and not looking for foul balls. It's just not wise to do both at the same time.

Besides, I'm sure the Pirates would play the Tigers anywhere they wish to play.

I have to agree with Burg Grad, no way as an administrator would you want a baseball game and track meet going on at the same time. If a track spectator or runner would get injured by a fouled ball - you could certainly have a sticky predicament on your hand.

I've been around Burg baseball since Coach Estep and Coach Conn have taken over and I can't remember either one of them ever having a thought of ever not wanting to play a ballgame no matter who it was. If you think this staff or kids are afraid of playing Waverly just because of whos pitching your living in another world. I don't think the burg is ever considered the underdog.

The Burg would play this game whenever. I would guarantee that the Burg would go there twice to play had it been reversed. Also, there is no way you can have a track meet and play baseball at the same time.

burggrad82-Well burg IS the underdog in this game. The game will be played as soon as possible, tired of hearing people whine about this!

Waverly beat Burg already but it's Waverly who is afraid of the Pirates? Waverly is not afraid to play the awesome Wheelersburg Pirates. The game will be played so sit back and relax. Your whining is hilarious.

I have been to wheelersburg baseball games while a track meet has been going on. It has been a few years, but it has been done.

Saturday DH's are safe in the SVC. No league make-ups on Saturday unless they are really backed up on the last Saturday of the regular season. Only Tuesday and Thursday.

I remember when DR Robertson was an all state quarterback for Waverly and we were scheduled to play Burg. Hurricane Hugo came through the area and all games were postponed except the one at Wheelersburg. The running game beat the throwing game that night in the worst conditions ever. Keep thinking that the Burg never uses shenanigans to better themselves.

you have beat the burg what 5 times in 10 years at some sport so you have a somewhat ok baseball team and you would think you have dominated the soc for years. I guess you forgot that the Burg on any given day in any sport can beat any team in the SOC and i'm pretty sure they have done it alot to Wavery . Burg is never the underdog if they get beat its an upset.

burggrad-Burg IS the UNDERDOG against Waverly for the upcoming game.
No one has brought up past success, this is about this years games that have been played and the one that is left to play. How about you give some credit to WAVERLY. Get off all this "Burg is never the underdog ", thats ridicilious.

Burggrad82 it's the attitude like yours which gives everyone pleasure in beating the Burg. No one mentioned dominating the SOC but you. No one likes a sore loser or a winner that is not humble. Take a lesson in humility.

Given credit to wheelersburg athletics, they are darn good at just about all sports, but to say waverly is afraid to play without their stud is crazy. To me you burg posters on here is sounding like the west siders. No class for atleast this topic. There are alot of games in the s.o.c. still to be played.I guess those who can't seem to get their games in also are afraid of the other teams.Get real and get off your so called throne and for,as you burg guys think, give credit to someone who knocked off the greatest school around.Like I said sounds like the west side,NO CLASS.

bash thats a good name for the stuff your giving out why would you trash the great people of west portsmouth like that they weren't part of the conversation if I didn't know better I think you where saying that the portsmouth west fans are bad people. wheelersburg fans and portsmouth west fans understand each other; over the years they have been the only competition that wheelersburg has had.

Hilarious reading burggrad82 we and west understand each other lol!!!!
Well its pretty plain the state tournament is going on which is what teams work for each yr, league titles are secondary, nice but just something to get you ready for state, so i believe from both coaches standpoint that is the focus trying to keep their pitching staffs rested for a bunch of games in a row.
Would Burg people want a state title or hurt their chances by tiring out one of their starting pitchers in a league game? I for one could care less about a league game if my team has a chance at state and Im pretty sure the head coaches from both teams are thinking the same way, so the game gets made up when it gets made up this isnt only in the best interest of Waverly, personally I would like to see 2 state titles come out of the Soc 2, but thats just me.

Hopefully after tonight we will have locked up the out right CHAMPIONSHIP and dethroned the king. That would make the BURG game POINTLESS. Maybe we should send the JV squad. I mean if it is so important to play this game now, that is probably the best option. Kids from both schools may never get a chance to advance this far in the tournament. Why ruin it for a league game that can be made up after both schools have finished their runs.

Best of luck to both the Tigers and the Pirates in the ever important STATE Tournament. Make the SOC proud

First and foremost, this game was scheduled originally for April 6 (42 days ago). Shame on AD's from both schools for it not being made up yet. But that is water under the bridge (literally) and we must move on.

Second, I dont buy the whole argument that playing this game in between tournament games hurts either team. Neither team would likely throw their ace, or maybe even their #2. So what! I think both teams would much rather be challenged and pushed by someone else, being forced to play small ball and manufacture runs in a tight game against good competition, than spend another day practicing against themselves. Who knows, they both might get a little better just in time for a big tournament game. Novel idea eh?

Now for my rant!

The back and forth from people representing both schools in this thread is ridiculous. Does anyone really think Waverly is afraid to play Wheelersburg (after they beat them once already this year)? Moreover, I am embarrased by people from Wheelersburg getting on here and outlandish statements about how Wheelersburg is always the favorite. GARABGE! Can anyone blame people when they say the things they do about Wheelersburg being arrogant?

Having been around Wheelersburg athletics and specifically Wheelersburg baseball since before Coach Estep took over, I can say that they will back down from no one, and at no time are they ever going toset foot on the field not expecting to win. However, they dont go around spouting off at the mouth about how they are the favorite to beat someone who has already beaten them once this year. There is a fine line between arrogance and confidence. Arrogance causes you to have an inflated perception of your own abilities and allows you to take your opponent for granted which usually results in losing a game/s you should have won. Confidence is the ability to play at the highest level and know you belong there.

Maybe we should all spend less time engaging in this trite message board argument and spend more time allowing the play of these two fine baseball teams to do their talking for them (on the field).

Good Luck to both Wheelersburg and Waverly! and Congrats to Mr Robertson on a fine baseball season!
