They have gone to the regionals 4 times in the last 10 years (04, 08,09, 10) and were in the regional finals in 3 of those: 04, 09, 10. So, maybe some day, they will get over that hump....

This is from the history page of the sport in the winter sports program:

Since volleyball was established in the late 70's, Eastern Beaver has gone to the regionals 12 times. 4 times with Becky Pendell, 1 time with Neil Leist and 7 times with Coach Day. There has only been 5 varsity coaches in the school history!
How long has Coach Day been the head coach? Pendell, Leist and Day....all 3 taught gym classes when I was student teaching there...along with Jeff Stricklett.

I have kept myself from posting about the refs in the SOC for a couple of weeks but after tonight's game I can't help myself. The number of "double contact" calls that were made was unbelieveable!! I wish they would read up on "first ball contact" and get it right. It was called on both sides tonight and it really can take a passer out of their game.

There were some other calls that were made that just make me cringe. No, I am not a ref but have been to many, many games over the last 8-9 years in high school, JO, and college and tho I don't know everything about the game I know my fair share. I wish our southern ohio refs would go watch some JO or college games and see how the game is played. There are some that do ref at JO tournament and are trying to improve and those are the ones I want to see as the "up ref" in big games.

Digger: Agreed! The first call of the game tonight was a whistle on a player who used her hands against a hard driven spike. This is a no-call in any club tournament or any game north of Chillicothe................ then as you said several times a girl on either team tried to receive serve by using her hands at eye level or above and it was called as a double contact..............the two referees we had tonight are nice people but they never ever ref outside our area or in a club tournament and I don't think they realize they are actually penalizing our kids by calling things that won't be called at the Regional level.

Can you imagine the two refs we had tonight doing a game between St. Ursula and Dublin Coffman? :)

Yes it should. I'd say we'll see a nice crowd on hand as well. I'm sure the Jeeps will show up very determined.

To our friends from Waverly:

I do not believe you were respected in the seeding meeting when you came out of there with the 2 seed. Your first round match vs Marietta will be a true test and my hope is that you show all of Division 2 what a great team you are.

Good Luck to the Tigers from South Webster!

There is no team in Division 2 that is unbeatable at the district level this year---there are several good teams, but not that 1 team ahead of you that you know you can't beat.

I agree, terrible draw and I don't know if strength of schedule was that much different. I was a little skeptical of Waverly's ability because of how bad the Jeeps played in the first match up, really didn't Get to see much of anything. I have now seen in our second meeting just how good Waverly is. I think you should have pulled the #1 seed. Just go out there and show them the error of thier ways! Good Luck Waverly!

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread and have helped us keep the SOC2 standings up to date! One more week to go.

I thought we could also keep track of the SOC teams and their tournament results on here as well----several SOC teams have a good chance of advancing to the district level.

SOC2:

Division 2:

Waverly is our only Division 2 team and I believe that hurt them at the tournament draw.

They play Marietta @ Waverly 6:00 Wednesday, October 19th

Division 3:

Portsmouth West plays @ Eastern Brown Tuesday, October 18th 6:00

Valley hosts Lynchburg Clay Tuesday, October 18th 6:00

Northwest hosts Paint Valley Tuesday, October 18th 6:00

Minford hosts Portsmouth Tuesday, October 18th 6:00

Wheelersburg hosts Fairland Tuesday, October 18th 6:00

Oak Hill plays @ Meigs Tuesday, October 18th 6:00

Division 4:
