Weak schedules in southeast Ohio

Post by The Fonz »

During tournament time it has been brought up that some teams have trouble because they haven't played teams to get them ready. Who has the weakest schedule?

Fonz, you should educate yourself a little more about these teams before you start putting the likes of Chesepeake on your poll. They played a brutal non-league schedule.

I would have to say South Gallia.

The following schools don’t even deserve to be on this list.

Unioto plays in a very good league and plays a non league schedule that consists of McClain, Washington CH, Jackson, and Circleville—all Division 2 schools.

Northwest played in a league that was really good with Oak Hill, Waverly, Wheelersburg, Minford, and Valley.

Vinton County’s league isn't always that great, but they can't really help that. Their non league consisted of Division 2 schools such as Waverly and Jackson, and really good Division 3 schools like Piketon and Zane Trace.

Like Vinton County, Chesapeake’s league isn’t great, but in the non league they played Gallia, and North Adams just to name two.

Vinton County is borderline on the list. Their league is not too strong, especially for a D2. They have a pretty decent non-league schedule.

Of the teams listed, South Gallia is the lone independent, which means they pretty much have to take what they can get to fill out a 20-game schedule.
In 08-09, South Gallia played 8 of 20 regular season games against SOC and TVC schools, including the D-4 state champ, Oak Hill.
They played 1 OVC school twice (Rock Hill, D-3) and played 4 games against 3 WVa public schools (Wahama, Hannan [2], Buffalo).
As far as protestant Christian schools go, the Rebels played Cross Lanes Christian twice, Teays Valley Christian once and Ohio Valley Christian once; that comes to four games, which they probably wouldn't schedule if they could find four more public schools in Ohio to play them. (No disrespect intended to Cross Lanes, Teays Valley & Ohio Valley)
They also played Ironton St. Joe (Catholic Christian school) twice.
Anybody care to trade places with Mr. James and come up with a better schedule?
