Remove Christ From Text Books?

Post by kantuckyII »

I mean, seriously, and to have an honest 'CHAT' here, how could you pull this off? whether you believe that Christ was the Son Of God like I do or you believe that He was a liar and an imposter like other's believe or even if you believe he was a dellusional person, how can you just write off the influence that Jesus Christ has had on the entire earth?
Christians in Australia are accusing national education officials of “Christian cleansing” in response to pending changes in school books that would remove references to the birth of Jesus Christ.

The government would replace the terms BC, Before Christ, and AD, Anno Domini, with non-religious language. The new terms will be BCE (Before Common Era), BP (Before Present) and CE (Common Era).

A spokesman for the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority told The Herald Sun that the new terms were an increasingly common standard for the representation of dates.

Peter Jensen, the Archbishop of Sydney, told The Daily Telegraph that taking references to the birth of Jesus Christ out of school books was an “intellectually absurd attempt to write Christ out of human history.”

BP (Before Present) has been used in archaeological texts for a very long time.

Fine by me. If I had wanted religion taught to my kids in school, I'd have sent them to RELIGIOUS schools. I was paying my property taxes and expected my kids to be taught language, math and science, [NOT religion] in public schools. Why is YOUR way of "praying" the only "right way", or belief in YOUR religion a legally enforceable or educational standard? That sounds exactly like TALIBAN methods [which you claim to oppose] to me. Freedom OF religion also means freedom FROM it.

Cagle, u miss my point or question. Surely even you would understand the lunacy of trying to remove Christ out of the text books? Look how affected history and mankind has been affected by the birth of Christ. Then, how can you act like He didn't even exist?

Turk? Y does it bother you? I mean, aren't the threads clearly marked in the subject line what the subject is? Can't you ignore them? You know, someone might actually desire, need and want to hear about God. Not saying you don't but you've heard it all your life, many (as hard as it is to believe) have never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ who live in America

I mean, would anyone really want to keep people from hearing that God loves them and Christ died for them?

This is not new. Academics have used BCE for years. It's a non-story if you actually believe in Jesus.

If this were in Ironton, where my kids go, I would want the reference to Christ left in the textooks. However, I agree with the post earlier, I would never want my child taught religion by any elementary or High School teacher.

Understood but the absurdity of trying to remove references to Jesus Christ is like trying to remove mention of the sun from books on astronomy.

Removing references about Christ is disgusting and immoral and irrational.
Yes, I would be in favor of removing all influences of muhammad on this world. But, since he's significant in history, go ahead and keep him in the textbooks.
And - yes - there is only one "right way".

No - not according to me...according to the only real authority.
I do, however, agree with freedom of religion. No one should be forced to adhere to a religion at gunpoint. I just hope they make the right decision. There's only one right answer.

Who are THEY? Supposed "Christians" were believers/supporters of slavery - e.g. the KKK, as were the Nazis - supposedly "it says so in the Bible" - which is the ONLY allowable opinion and should be made LAW and a required belief! Our Founding Fathers had lived through a time in England/Great Britain when WARS were started over having Catholicism or Protestantism [both "Christian"] in charge of making the LAW. They learned and and used that knowledge when writing a new Constitution, and EXCLUDED ALL Religious Authorities from having ANY Governing authority or Power! Read your history - there's plenty of "Christ" in it - mostly promoting HATE and VIOLENCE and WAR! No, you can't take Jesus out of history or textbooks - but teach what HAPPENED - not demand that Religious belief be substituted for SCIENCE! Or that perfect PRAYER is the ONLY answer.
That is exactly the thinking and practice of a Taliban government.

Please think before you post. That's simply incorrect.

How about the IRA and the violence perpetrated in the name of RELIGION in Ireland? How about the racist, misogynist, anti-miscegenation, anti-semitic LAWS encouraged and enforced in Southern States IN THE NAME OF GOD AND THE BIBLE in this country? All the civil-rights legislation passed in the mid 1960's was fought primarily on the basis of "GOD/the Bible" says WHITE PEOPLE ARE SUPERIOR and dark-skinned people and females are inately inferior and do not deserve the RIGHTS enumerated in the CONSTITUTION written by slave-holding WHITE MEN. And all that is in recent memory in our country - not even counting the hateful Inquisition era in Europe! Christians have nothing to be proud of regarding history - all manner of atrocities were perpetrated IN THE NAME OF GOD against all others who looked or believed or came from a different background as those who were in power. Like the famed "witch trials" or the decimation of the indigenous [North and South American Indian] population that was PROUDLY done and encouraged in the name of eliminating "heathens" according to supposedly Christian teaching, belief, and instruction. How "loving"!
And men were allowed to beat their wife and children with impunity because it "said so" in the Bible.

cagle,
So, do you blame Christ/Christianity for atrocities committed that were in direct opposition to the principles of Christ ?
I guess if I go out and rob a bank "in the name of caglewis", it would be your fault - even though you had nothing to do with it and don't support such actions.
*Just because evil people say that they are acting in the name of and/or on behalf of Christ doesn't mean they are.

So then you would agree that Muslims who commit atrocities in the name of Allah, are not representing Islam............And would you please tell us where God is mentioned in our Constitution, the supreme law of the land................ :12224

No, I would not agree. People who have done evil things, supposedly "in the name of Christ/Christianity", were doing things inconsistent with the tenets of the faith. Also, all active Christians (true Christians) denounce such acts.
Muslims, however, who commit these acts are doing things perfectly consistent with their principles. And fellow muslims don't speak out & denounce these acts. They either don't speak out at all or they are ambivalent about the acts. And please don't give me some PC crap about bigotry. Facts are facts.
I don't believe the term "God" is mentioned in the constitution. References to God and scriptures are found, however, in countless other places in Washington and government building across the country (I was going to give examples. But, I type slowly and there are too many examples). Secondly, you are presuming that I advocate a theocracy. I don't. I'm sure God doesn't want people to believe in Him because they HAVE TO. It's a choice (with only one correct answer). Anyone who denies the Christian influence on our founders is not being intellectually honest - or they're just not intelligent enough to get it. We were - in practice - a Christian country for about 200 years or so. Now, we are far from it - and are paying the price.
My question for you... Where is the term "secularism" mentioned in the constitution ?
**Liberals absolutely amaze me. Other religions are attempting to blow up anyone that doesn't believe as they do. Yet, you attack Christianity...unbelievable.
