RB Matt Mauger, several solid years at RB 92-95 seasons, doubt many could argue how talented he was in the tougher OCC days before moving to the weaker Cardinal Division.
DL\TE Art Adams, Never played football until his Junior season of 95-96 seasons, Played at Ohio U
WR\CB Melvin Beverly, 92-95, IMO better then his Younger Cousin Phil
RB- Seth McCarter, I would have him above the ones that are listed below.

I believe Shawn Smith (might be incorrect on name) had a 1,000 yard season on the (90) 10-0 team.

There are several players from the 80's winning teams, but I am not that old to know all of them, lol.

One name most people more then likely don't know was Jason Cottril, Transfer from South Eastern 95 season. Hard Nose, nice size, Played DE, and half way through season played both ways moving to OL also.

Justin Davis was a solid CB 95-98 seasons, Started from sophmore through senior seasons.

DL/lb Jeremy Webb 93-96 seasons, undersized, with never ending energy. Teams planned Offensive Schemes on stopping Jeremy from being in their backfields.

I will try get some names from the 70's and 80's.

Greg Cook was the 1969 AFL Rookie of the Year. 5th pick in the draft. Three sport athlete at CHS. My dad coached his pee wee football team (red devils I believe). Talked about Greg Cook and Greg Beverly like they were both Superman. Cook is a relative of the Shoemaker family of Ross County. Best athlete is Ross County ever!!!

qb:vallentine 93
knights 05-09

If my memory serves me correctly Obadiah was a D end in college but a Linebacker in High school. Or was it the other way around now that you mention it?

Mauger missed one kicked as a sophmore and that is what he is most remember for. Not in my eyes. I remember over 200 yards and several TD's against Dublin Coffman his senior year for Columbus Dispatch player of the week. Plus several other break out games and great plays he made.

McCarter actually started a few games his freshman season (96) at running back. He split time with Keith Beard. Not for sure about his sophmore season.

Chris Carter was not even CLOSE to being one of the best Olinemen. He was Big. OK. What else. No quickness, No technique. Sorry and Im not trying to sound mean because Chris is a great person and was a good HS lineman but he is not one of the best. Not even close.

How would Paul Davis rank all time for O-line?

I would think he would definately be in the discussion for linemen recently.

The thing with linemen is that they don't accumulate stats. Therefore they are not remembered that long unless they are just FREAKS. Greg Cook has been mentioned on here several times because of the stats that he accumulated throughout his remarkable career. Would a lineman from the same era even be remembered even if he were great, unless he went on to be in the NFL? O line is the hardest position to quantify and rank simply because of the subjectiveness of the observation. There are very few objective measurements of an Offensive lineman, especially at the high school level so much of it is whether or not he looked good to you, the observer. In short, my top 5 may be different from everyone elses top 5.

You need to add Bob Mason to the RB list.Bryan Netter played on the D-line,if I'm not mistaken,he played Nose-guard,D tackle then moved to linebacker spot.Phil Carter was a heck of a Lineman big and physical.Mark Cunningham and the list goes on from the mid 80's.

Add to the list Art Adams TE/DL. only played 2 years of high school I believe but was able to turn that into a college career at Ohio University. Cant remember exactly what year he graduated but it was late late 90's or early 2000's. Boy was there a lot of talent roaming the halls during that time period. D1 athletes just kept growing on trees so to speak.

Are you talking about the kid who played at OU around 2000?

He's talking about our QB. last year, Caleb Knights, who will be playing football for the air force academy next year.

We have been lucky at QB. Just within the last 10+ years or so we have had Adam Porter (OU), Jimmy Skinner (Marshall), Adam Renner, Tyler Dennis(ALL-OHIO, 1st team I believe), Clint Austin (Otterbein for a time, great QB), Chris Givens briefly before...Caleb Knights (Air force). Adam Renner was a VERY TALENTED player too who didnt go anywhere. He could have been special. With Renner or Dennis being possibly the WORST QB at Chilli in the last 10 years, WOW. They would be the BEST QB at the majority of schools. Dennis was largely a product of the system but Austin had D1 skills and D3 size. Renner didnt play long enough but he had the POTENTIAL (not skills) to be a D1 QB had he played longer, and the rest went D1.
