Puppy Mill

Post by wildthingRV »

So, my wife and I are shopping for a new puppy. We both want an English Bulldog. We found a breeder locally, and went to pick our puppy. I have never seen a more disgusting sight in my life. There were hundreds of dogs, all breeds, and dog crap everywhere. The smell . . . ug. We did not buy a puppy.

I just wonder what, if anything, I can do. This woman is allegedly selling AKC pups, so I wonder what the AKC would say about her little project.

Thoughts?

They need to be reported... to AKC... esp if they are claiming AKC credentials...

my daughter contacted the akc due to a problem with a puppy she purchased from a akc breeder and they would not do anything.... it was the sweetest puppy in the world but had a neurological problem that could not be cured.. and he had to be put down at 4 months...on the advice of 5 vets :122247

I heard/read recently that a great many of these "puppy mills" exist in central PA and are run by Amish dairy farmers to supplement their income. I think this is really sad!
Apparently "breeding dogs" doesn't have nearly as many "restrictive regulations" [like requiring electricity - prohibited by their religion] as "producing milk" does and so is much more lucrative.

Read sometime ago about a puppy mill in Amish country and the owners killed all of the animals instead of fixing up the living conditions!! Disgusting.

If you want dog or cat for a new family member check out Sierra's Haven shelter in Portsmouth. Loads of animals in need of a home there. All have been spayed or neutered.
