Congratulations to Ryan Robertson (Robo)
Re: Congratulations to Ryan Robertson (Robo)
T-Bone, old Pirates scout (not sure who he is with now), clocked him the second week of the season. He topped out at 86. Fastball consistently was between 82-84 that day. Didn't get any speeds on the offspeed, but his duece is nasty.

We all know how everyone thinks they know what high 80's looks like when they are actually 82. J/W...Congrats on all the awards though!!!!!!
I would say you are in the ball park on his speed but that is not what makes him effective. It is his offspeed stuff. His curveball gets nastier as the game wears on. So what he loses in velocity torward the end of the game, his breaking ball makes up for. Big thing is he can throw at least 3 pitches for strikes. IMO, I believe he is harder to hit the deeper the game gets because of his breaking ball.
Buldog--You are so right about the analysis of him. Ryan has told me before he feels like it takes him 2 or 3 innings before he truly feels warmed up and throwing his best. I have also heard from other coaches and batters that his curve gets nastier as the game goes on.

hbk123--Ryan has had some interest from Rio Grande University and Northern Kentucky University. In fact, Rio Grande University has offered him a full ride. Not sure of the specifics of Northern Kentucky. At this point, I think he is still deciding what he wants to do. I think Ryan also has plans to try out at a Reds camp in June. Will update everyone further when the young man makes his final decision.

Not completely sure but I think he is considering University Rio Grande. He went to Reds camp in June and got rave remarks and promises they would call him but I do not think anything has materialized from it.

Bengalsfan76-- Are you a scout? I am Ryans uncle and we haven't heard anything yet. Can you fill us in on info..
Re: Congratulations to Ryan Robertson (Robo)
Watch List is exactly as it reads. The Reds Organization will keep track of where he goes to school and how he progresses. That is good that someone is looking. Wish him the best of luck. I am curious as to how hard he threw at the Reds camp.

No I am not a scout. Just a baseball guy.
Ryan has been told he is on the Reds watch list.
Which means they will review his progress over the next couple of years.
He needs to go to school and continue to develop.
It will be amazing how good this kid will be when he put all his time into baseball instead of a 3 sport athlete.
Not saying being a 3 sport athlete is a bad thing. Actually the opposite. More kids need to try it instead of settling on Basketball and Football because a HS coach tells them they are DI material.
Ryan should announce his college intentions tomorrow. I will wait to discuss this after he announces
Good Luck Ryan.

Bengalfan76--Thanks for the info. I was talking to his mom and dad last night and he is set to sign the papers today for college. They wanted me to post last night because they weren't sure if they should go ahead and sign or wait for the reds. Ryan is a great athlete and a very good kid. Thanks for all the compliments about him.

Sign the college papers. The earlies he could be signed by the Reds now would be next summer, but that will not happen. He now will be draft eligible in 3 years. College will be good for him. He can refine his game. Dedicate to baseball and the classroom. Being a 3 sport athlete, Ryan is Raw. He will be a very good baseball player.
