Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
Easy win. We are Big Bad Jackson. They'll be podunked on the way down here to think we're a bunch of hicks that can't play ball. We play on a hill.
We've all heard this country boy, us against the world, God's country BS for too long.
Prepare, stay disciplined, and don't beat yourselves. Good teams win games, big games. No one cares where you're from, get over it.

Almost game day. Should be a great atmosphere at Alumni Stadium tomorrow night since it's Homecoming and the rain is supposed to clear out during the day tomorrow. Hopefully everyone comes out to support the Ironmen, and makes it a tough environment for St. Charles.
Offensively, Jackson must control the line of scrimmage. The O-Line did an oustanding job last week at Ironton, but they'll need to be even better this time around. According to the preview in the Times-Journal, SC runs a 3-3 stack defensive scheme, much like Wellston and Warren. The Ironmen should be familiar with that, but at the same time, they did struggle offensively at times in both of those games. Hopefully they have learned from that, and will do a good job of picking up the pressure that the Cardinals bring.
Defensively, the Ironmen are gonna have to tackle in space. It appears that SC has a pretty balanced offensive attack out of the spread, but no matter what they're trying to do, Jackson needs to be disciplined and get a lot of guys to the football. No big plays...make them earn everything!
Special teams has been outstanding all season for the Ironmen. Whether it's the kicking with Luke Eisnaugle, kick coverage, or kick return, the Ironmen have been very solid. A big play on special teams could be the deciding factor in this one, so the Ironmen need to continue to be solid in that department.
Last week was essentially a playoff game. This week is no different. One loss and then you have to rely on other teams to help you get into the post-season. It's much better to control your own destiny. In this case, that means staying perfect. Making the playoffs and winning an SEOAL championship are obviously high on the list of goals for this season, but this team has a chance to be very special. Seven wins down, three to go! Make St. Charles victim #8!

One last comment on the game:
St Charles is an all male school with 608 total enrollment in Bexley.
It's senior class is 149 students.
It is a school you send your kid to to get ready for college.
The AVERAGE ACT score there is 28.
Many people look at the schedule and see D1 Big City Catholic School, and read powerful program that will be tough to beat.
Not the case. These young men at St. Charles will be your bosses one day, but not the victors on the field in Jackson.
There is plenty of "country and backwoods" up here, heck go 4 miles outside of Pickerington and you are in the farm land again.
Columbus is city inside the beltway, and farm very shortly thereafter.
This game should be over by halftime, if Jackson comes out focused.

I like to see Jackson win this because I want them to see them do good just for the pride of Southeastern Ohio

Not often a win over a 2 win team is a quality win but this is one of the exceptions. Congratulations to Jackson.

Would have loved to have seen this game. Way to go Ironmen. Huge, huge, win. Will do nothing but help you in the grand scheme of things.

I'm wet and cold, but what a game. Way to go Jackson. Those guys were fast and big but you did what it took for the win. Loved watching the homecoming and the alumni band at half time, as well. The hill was rocking with well over two hundred band members. One of the best games this year at Alumni Stadium.
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
Outstanding effort by the Ironmen! Offense was pristine. Defense had a lot of good plays, but when you're giving up 50-60 lbs per player on the defensive line it's just tough to not get blown off the ball every so often. Our players that played both ways just flat out gutted it out. Austin Osborne, Drew Ervin and Morgan Landrum just played off the chart football. They were exceptional on offense and just put hard hit after hard hit on them on both offense and defense.
St Charles was the real deal. Very athletic and very good size. I believe they are also undefeated if they would've played our schedule. We beat them by 14....but we were sensational on offense and they were behind in turnover differential.
To give you an idea of how good St Charles was....they looked like a team you'd face in the first or second round of the D3 playoffs.
Great game Ironmen....rest up, keep your noses clean and finish off this potential 10-0 SEOAL Championship.
