Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
8-0!
As others have already said, exceptional performance by the Jackson Ironmen tonight. St. Charles was big and athletic, and their depth certainly helped them, but no matter what happened, the Ironmen had an answer. Congratulations to the Ironmen on a great win, not only for this season, but for the program as a whole. I know St. Charles is now a 2-6 team, and they're not a Central Ohio powerhouse, but they're still a D1 team that has lost to four or five (at least) playoff caliber football teams.
Jackson's offense was practically unstoppable all night, racking up over 400 yards of total offense. Austin Osborne had over 130 yards on the ground and 4TDs, Drew Ervin had over 120 yards rushing and 2 TDs, and Morgan Landrum had over 90 yards and a TD. Great effort by those guys, but it wouldn't have been possible without the outstanding play of the offensive line. That group of guys...Jeffers, Carter, Dye, Gilliland, Quinn, Spires, Williams at TE (and anyone else who has subbed in)...has been off the charts the last two weeks. They deserve a ton of credit for the way this offense is playing.
Defensively, the Ironmen gave up way too many big plays. However, as Ironman92 said, SC had a huge advantage up front and they also had the athletes running behind those guys to make the plays. Our defense did a great job at times tonight, and absolutely played their hearts out, but SC was just extremely difficult to defend. Special teams, once again, was very solid. Luke and Ty in the kicking game, and the kick coverage got the job done.
I just can't say enough about the job our staff and kids have done so far this season. This is a talented group, but they also play with a tremendous amount of heart. I couldn't be any happier with what they have accomplished to this point in the season. Now it's time to get back into SEOAL play. There's a championship to defend. Remember how tough the Chillicothe game was last year. Prepare this week, work hard, go to Chillicothe and get win #9!
GO IRONMEN!!!

Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
For those of us thinking about the playoffs, Jackson received ZERO L2 points tonight from the schedule, other than the 5.5 that they will get from St. Charles.
A word of caution for Jackson fans. I haven't crunched the numbers for anyone but Jackson through Week 8, but the Ironmen are probably going to drop in the Region 12 standings this week...maybe to 9th or so. Don't worry that much about it though. If they take care of business the next two weeks, they should be just fine.

I for one am thinking playoffs, and will drive whatever the distance from Dayton to watch them!
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
Might not have very far to drive. I'm thinking Dayton or Springfield is a likely destination.86grad wrote:I for one am thinking playoffs, and will drive whatever the distance from Dayton to watch them!
A lot of work left to do the next two weeks though. A loss could be devastating to the playoff chances, esepcially to Gallia Academy. 10-0 and there is less than a 1% chance the Ironmen aren't playing in Week 11. 9-1 and it gets MUCH fuzzier.
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
I've watched them play in three playoff games in this area since living here for the past ten years. I'm converting the Miami Valley residents one fan at a time lol...

Dayton Dunbar 19 - Cin. Taft 2
This puts Dunbar into the conversation now, but they were further back than Taft.

the last TD run by osborne was awesome he wasn't going to be denied the score on 4th down.ST.C linebacker didn't know what hit him.osborne just flat out ran over him for the td that sealed the game for the ironmen.
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
Nice win by the Ironmen. Yes, St. Charles is a 2-6 team but they play a very good schedule. Hopefully Jackson will find a similar opponent to fill the VC hole in the schedule.

Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
We should should them the game film!!... Showing they couldnt stop us lol
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
Actually we should send wonderful films from Bishop Watterson and Marion Harding games as we could use their 2nd level points.
We got them back already.....they kinda bit their own hand in trying to bite ours. Gotta be able to forsee.

Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
I don't know what the big deal is about not sending game film. This isn't the 70's, with today's technology you could not only record the game, you could practically watch it live if you wanted to. Any program should be able to send at least one able soul to go record a teams game or two. This old practice is a joke, if it was me, I wouldn't send any film either. Hell I know of pee-wee teams that scout other teams games upcoming on their schedule...
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
The two teams exchanged game film. The film that St. Charles sent was very poor quality, while Jackson's was not. There was an agreement to "play fair" and St. Charles did not. Once they got what they wanted (good game film to study) they weren't cooperative in doing the same for Jackson. That's what the big deal is. If you can't understand how that's kind of shady, then I don't know what else to say. It doesn't matter now anyway. St. Charles got what they deserved...a loss.
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
Shady? You obviously miss the point completely. It's 2011, I love Jackson Football, but who in the hell outside of what's left of the good ole boy SEOAL actually "sends" video to their opponent? That mentality is why Jackson goes 8-2/9-1 every year and beats who the are suppose to, squeaks into the playoffs, and then get their asses handed to them in the first round. I'm an Ironmen through and through, but we all have to take that next step. Get over the petty stuff and just know we're going to beat good teams, no matter if we have film, play on the hill, or play 2hrs. West. Just roll...
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
I'm not missing the point at all. I don't know if an actual person-to-person exchange of film occurs. It might happen that way, but my understanding is that there is also a website online where game film is posted. It's password protected, you post your game film to the website, and then your opponent does the same. Jackson obviously scouts their opponents in person as well, but it's customary to study hours of game film to learn your opponent's stengths, weaknesses, tendencies, etc. That's why there's a mutual agreement to post quality film for the staff to break down. Give a little, take a little.
Seems pretty simple to me.

How embarrassing.
Generalizations are great arguments.

Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
JTownie - you have no idea what you are talking about. High Schools exchange two films. It is done by all high schools. Please educate yourself before making stupid statements like you seem to always make.
Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
Jtownie, you are an idiot! Standard practice is to trade film. League rules stipulate a mandatory trading of film with the games selected being decided, usually last two games. Non-league games are up to the coaches if not stipulated in the contract. There are a few coaches who do not exchange non-league games (not many). However, if exchange was agreed to, you need to make a good faith effort to trade quality film. Jackson traded quality film and got crap in return, that is not right, and Jackson has a reason to be upset.
As for the play-offs, Jackson has nothing to be ashamed of, they have played some quality opponents in the play-offs and have been in tough regions.

Re: Week 8: Columbus St. Charles (2-5) at Jackson (7-0)
I'll admit that I was misinformed on the tape exchange details, and therefore my take was a bit off. My point is that this ticky-tack stuff always seems to get blown out of proportion, whether it be the quality of the tape they sent, or the quality of the officiating, etc. I just want to get this snide off of SEO teams backs that just because we play in a certain region, we can't compete. The good teams just seem to win no matter what. I want Jackson to be one of those teams. And don't call me an idiot.
