Best Players in Southeast Ohio?
I'm curious to see what y'all think (with as much bias aside about your favorite school as possible, although I know it can be difficult): Who are some of the most elite players in Southeast Ohio and why? Great stats, leadership, tackling, etc. Most people say that football down here doesn't have many great players and I am curious to know about some guys that put that hogwash to rest.

Luke Keller Lucasville Valley, 6'2 205 lbs. Good speed, with great vision. Runs a high 4.6 which isn't bad for around here. I've heard he has been getting looked at by a lot of colleges and will most likely play at the next level.
Blake Yates, just a pure athlete with a great arm. Like Keller he can score from anywhere on the field. I believe in 16 games he has started he has only thrown 2 Ints. If he doesn't go play college basketball he will also play at the next level

Barr from Jackson. He's a constant problem for the offensive line. Is double teamed most of the time and is still in the backfield causing havoc and disruption. Not used as a running back anymore but averaged over 4.5 yards a carry over his career at Jackson. One of the top tackle for loss and sacks over the last three years. Motor never stops till the whistle blows always looking for the ball.
The best , probably not, one of the best, DEFINITLY!

Mitchell Fouch, Senior tailback at Sheridan. He is a burner, through the Cambridge game week 5 he had ran for over 900 yards and was averaging 15 yards a carry, had also scored 15 tds at that point.

Re: Best Players in Southeast Ohio?
Honestly, I have seen no great players this year. That is not to say there aren't any. Just that I personally have not seen them.
The two best I have seen are Luke Brown from Northwest and Zach Johnson from Chillicothe. Both of them however are far from great. Johnson is pretty good and Brown is decent. Nothing more and nothing less. Anyone care to enlighten us on some of the better ones they have seen? It seems to me that a lot of the best players from last year were seniors and graduated.

Sharp and Rider have led Athens this year, both are great kids and "The Real Deal" on the field.

I agree with Alitown, on the Keller part at least. Those people who have seen him play know what I'm talking about. Any time he touches the ball, you're looking at a great chance for a first down, and possibly more! He has gotten bigger and faster for his senior season.
Very good straight line speed as well as ability to cut back and make defenders miss. And he is always a threat in the passing game. He has very good hands so he will rarely ever have a drop. With the speed he has, he can get open on the majority of plays that he is sent out on. He is a big threat to score at any given moment.
I'm excited to see how he will perform against tougher competition this week against West. I think he will have another good game against a tough defense.
On a side note, I believe that Keller is a religious kid, which is kinda rare these days. He glorifies God when he can, and thanks him for his talent. This is just something that I think shows to his character

And as an all around player Chris Russell may be better than either.Fortdawg wrote:Sharp and Rider have led Athens this year, both are great kids and "The Real Deal" on the field.

Lineman never get the credit they deserve but Jacob Coon from Nelsonville has an awesome job this season, and Dakota hook and Bobby Leitwein are good linebackers they may be small but theyre strong and fast.

I agree on Keller, he has 828 yds in six games on 69 rushes ( 12 yds a carry)
408 yds rec on 18 catches for 22.7 yd per catch
And a total yards ( not including punt and kick off returns for) of 1231 yards on 87 touches for a average of 14 yds a touch! He has 18 TD's and Valley uses him as a decoy when teams focus on him. He gives all credit to God and his offensive line! I think his presence will make Blake Yates and the other skilled positions even better as Valley enters the meat of their SOC schedule and the playoffs!

Agree. People primarily list their team's QB or RB. Those guys, unless athletic freaks of nature, would do very little without some "best players" on the line. Likewise, some of the best players in the region must excel on defense.bucks_09 wrote:Lineman never get the credit they deserve but Jacob Coon from Nelsonville has an awesome job this season, and Dakota hook and Bobby Leitwein are good linebackers they may be small but theyre strong and fast.
My brother watched one NY game, and while he also praised Dean and Young, he spoke most often about Bobby Leitwein. He said Leitwein was crushing people and was all over the field. He didn't notice particular linemen but said NY's line was parting the sea.
Good call.

Reid Hutchison - Adena.
1470 rushing yards, 17 td's. Not positive but I believe he may be leading Ohio in rushing yards. If he's not, he has to be really close.

They wont give the svc any glory. Didn't he get almost 2000 rushing yards last year? I see him getting over that this year And prob about 27 td's . I say Reed is the best in southern ohio. Now next year Piketon will go 10-0 lolbigboss wrote:Reid Hutchison - Adena.

Re: Best Players in Southeast Ohio?
Wheelersburg - Senior QB Alex Shears - going by the Portsmouth daily times stats, in (6) games he has compiled 1,646 yds & 15 tds this kid is a threat on either side of the ball, he can go the distance anytime he touches the ball!! strong kid 6'2'' 185 very elusive, fast, strong arm, good field vision, good feel for the game and extends plays with his feet, very dangerous when he breaks the pocket it's been a job for teams trying to contain him, others who have seen Shears play will agree or disagree. Make know mistake about it the Pirates are a very good young football team that jumped from boys to men in six games but the success of the team has fallen on this young mans shoulders, I have also heard from people in burg and on the outside that he is being pursued by several D1 schools?
