As far as Yates or Dwyer being the best WR I think u could also make a case for Keller being the best wide receiver, he has made some amazing catches. The catch he made against rock hill I believe it was, was amazing. All three of these young men are very good athletes

I was trying to think of their names. They were extremely talented.

Burg 2007, Cook at WR, Spradlin QB and J. Shankweiler at RB. Plus a senior laden line. Probably the best next to Waverly, whom Burg beat that year.
That was probably the best team I have seen from the area in a long time...I think they were state caliber, but for one reason or another they got beat in the second round...it has really made me cynical towards Southern Ohio in the playoffs because teams like that team and the 07 Portsmouth team (got beat in the first round) and the early 00's Portsmouth Team can't win championships.
Jesco White wrote:I read some comments earlier where some believed West needed to throw the ball more last night, because they believe the Siders had success in the passing game. I've got to be honest, I disagree. In the final drive, Ratliff was just 2-5 against a prevent defense that was conceding the pass in order to keep the ball in bounds and the clock running. I'm sorry, but while I credit Ratliff for making the most of what he was given, I just don't view that as the type of passing attack that was capable of changing that particular ballgame. He was 2-4 prior to that drive, but also faced a lot of pressure when he dropped back prior to the late drive. At no point did it appear that the West passing game was a legit threat last night. I'll concede that maybe I'm looking through rose colored glasses, but as big a fan as I've openly become of Ratliff, I don't think bias is playing a factor here.

Also, as for the comment about wanting to see how this game would've played out at the Rock...what do you think would have been different? These are two very good football teams who are pretty evenly matched. However, I don't think it would have mattered where this game would have been played last night. Valley just flat out out-played West in all facets of the game, except turnover margin. It was just one of those nights!! I'm quite certain West is going to bounce back stronger than ever and hopefully we'll all get to see these two teams square off again a couple of rounds deep into the playoffs!!!

My hat goes off to both teams on a hard fought and classy game!!! Good luck to West the rest of the way and keep it rolling Valley!!!!!
It seemed to me that Ratliff had a lot of time throughout the game even before the 4th quarter. I feel if West would of spread the field and made them play in space then they could of exploited Valley in some areas. I think the world of Bob as a coach, but I would love to see them get Auger, Summers, and Bricker in space a little more.

Sorry, but not even comparible in my mind. While Spradlin is a tremendous athlete and outstanding basketball player, he was nowhere near the QB that Yates is and Cook (while also a solid athlete) didn't possess the 6'6" frame and leaping/speed/hands combo that Dwyer has. I'll definitely agree about J. Shank, but he's the only one of the three. I think you'd have to go further back than that.
Your underestimating how good spradlin was, he got several looks to play at the next level but chose bball. Threw for around 1700yds. He might have been the smartest on field qb I have seen. Emnett, gill, schmidt Were awfully good for the burg in 99, around 350yds offense per game,
they were the #1 ranked team in the state going into week ten, they lost to the eventual state champ GTVV I beleive.

Here's something I'm not understanding from West fans... In the week(s) leading up to the game, the talk was West is too physical and Valley couldn't play a tough game in the trenches with the Siders. Many times people said the Siders would run the ball at will on the Indians and use their depth on the lines to wear down the Indians in the 2nd half. Now after Valley was clearly more physical, and Valley's speed on the edges and in the open space created big plays for Indians, the West fans seem to think they would have been better off throwing the ball or playing a game that is out of character for their football team. Teams that do things that aren't part of their identity as a football team are conceeding they aren't good enough to win with their style of play. Valley plays a 4-4 and therefore has 8 men in the box every week against every opponent. They do have LBs slide out if teams spread the field, but Valley's OLBs are extremely athletic and throwing the ball with Yates and Dwyer roaming in the secondary hasn't work for anyone this year. Not to mention by spreading the field, you are banking that the O-line will keep the pressure off the QB and create lanes to run. Clearly none of these things happend Friday night. If Valley and West play again, the best thing that could happen to Valley is if West changes their identity a try to become a spread team. Most people conceeded that Valley had the skill players and West had the line going into the game, well I think its pretty clear that Valley is a better team on the field and on the sidelines.

I just don't understand why West doesn't pass the football more, could of won this game with more balance in the playbook.

Doubtful, West is good. By the way this idiot talks, Valley is the best team in the nation. HONESTABE, why don't you just shut up and stop making everyone yell at you. Stop posting, you are not knowledgeable of anything at all.

Do us all a favor and just delete your account on here.

BO, you have a reason to gloat about Friday. Valley is a great team and they played great. But right now, there is probably a 50% chance we meet again in 4 weeks. Something I've really learned about football the last few years, karma is a _____.

As far as West. I don't want to see us go spread. We are a running team with a very good line. It's hard to block 10 in the box. All we are saying is mix it up and make them put 8 or 9 in there. We can be productive in the running game against that. We are capable of throwing the ball. But we need to throw it out of our base sets that we run in so the defense is honest.

The problem I've had with these quotes are they all say West woulda, shoulda, or coulda won "IF" this or that happened. I think it's totally bogus. You don't see Valley fans saying this game wouldn't have been close "IF" Valley doesn't fumble the ball. Basically West scored on 2 very short fields are were given a huge break on a goaline call on their 3rd TD. Valley could have played 7 in the box all night because the defensive line dominated West's O-line. Valley played 8 guys up with the corners 8-10 yds back while Yates was around 10 in the middle of the field.

Like me and every Valley poster said last week, West is a good team and they could beat Valley. The difference is Valley proved Friday night that they are not soft and are not a passing team. Valley is a complete well rounded football team that can run the ball at you or throw over top. They have a big athletic O and D line that can play both ways for 4 quarters. I don't think the people who beat their chests and run their mouths have been back to eat their crow... but that's not my point. My point is Valley is/was the better football team on offense and defense, running or passing, turf or grass, etc. You are a classy poster, and to me this isn't about gloating. It's about giving the young men, that weren't as hyped up, the credit they deserve for their outstanding effort Friday. West didn't lose the game, Valley won it!

WHO CARES, Week 8 is at hand. Move on, its over, Valley won. Guess what? I woke up saturday morning and the sun was shining here on the WEST SIDE. This is for those boys from Valley who actually played a great game last friday night. If you guys make it deep into the playoffs and we dont, I for one will be there cheering you guys on, just like I did a few years back. That includes your road games, so good luck UNLESS we meet again in the p-offs. GO WEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fan4sure, you are so right. Valley played very good and West not so much, Valley is a awsome team. I'll move on but, want to write this......Keller is a great back, but even more, a fine young man. Talked to him after the game and was impressed, his parents should be proud. Alot of humble and classy kids played last friday from both schools.

I agree it is time to move on, but I agree with Bo also...he makes a great point when he says Valley went out and took it to West, the opposite of what everyone had said coming in.

HONESTABE = Idiot.

If these teams played 10 times, I'd say 6-4 Valley...

I HOPE they dont play in the first round, because I want to see SOC schools moving into the later rounds, Reg title....just fine with that as I'm sure it'd be at Jackson, but NEITHER team can look ahead that far, or even look past Wheelersbug and Minford (Valley)

Looking forward to watching the season play out! GO

As far as Keller, there isnt a better young man on and off the field. I had the pleasure to actually coach him in his younger days, and he has always been a great kid....It's been a pleasure watching him grow into a young man. Says alot about his family.

GO VALLEY!

I guess for some people getting a congradulations on a win, and you played a better game is enough for some people. Your judging a whole community by the words of a few. How would you like for everyone on here to judge all of Valley supporters by the likes of HONESTABE.
As far as your other comments no true West fan wants us to become a spread team. The comments were more a call for more balance in the Offense. We are asking for some play action, throwing out of running set, heck throw it on first down anything to keep the other team on their heels. So once again congrats to the young men of Valley on a hard fought game and good luck on the rest of the season. Maybe we will meet in the playoffs.
