Its obvious that talent can only get you so far.The best talent doesnt always win.

Indeed....Talent doesn't always win.

You have to take into account, in football anyways, turnovers, field position and other factors that impact a game.

How many times have we seen turnovers and field position play an enormous role in the Jackson-Wellston series? Especially in games in which it has been perceived as Wellston with the more talent of the two teams?

There is not one time that I can remember where wellston has had more talent than jackson, well maybe once back in '89. sorry team of '89 to bring back bad memories :(

Those '89 teams were even. If they played each other 10 times it would have been 5-5. Wellston just played a little bit better game that night.

Jackson talent was good in 1989 but very young and inexperienced as the first game of the year many of those future very good players like Mike Morgan, Ryan Mapes, Chad Reynolds, Jerod Wiley, Brett Rippeth, Gerald Williams, Marty Exline were all either slight experience juniors or sophomores. It wasn't a strong senior class at all.

Pretty sure all of those players went on to be all SEOAL....Morgan and Exline twice. Mapes and Morgan were 4 year starters.

So irish08, you are saying that Jackson has had the better talent for EACH and EVERY game in this series for the last say 25 years?

I would beg to differ.

Jackson, the large majority of the games, has had the most talent of the two. But not ALWAYS.

I can guarantee that in 1999 Wellston had more talent at the "skill" positions than Jackson did. Brad Young, Shawn Brennan and Chris Hutchison all went on to play D1 college ball after leaving Wellston. In addition to those three the Rockets also had Erron Brennan who ran track at Morehead State and Thomas Mayes. Anyone who knows about those kids can attest to just how loaded Wellston was that season. However, they still managed to get shutout by Jackson losing by a score of 20-0. :?:

Only one of those players with talent that you listed southernstorm was Brad Young, and yes he was good, but we shut him down so our defensive talent was better than their offensive talent.

What's the atmosphere like in the Jackson camp with the new coaching staff in place?
How did recent workouts go?
Good numbers out?

You are correct southernstorm I would even say the Rockets had better skill players in 2000 & 2001. However the Ironmen beat us upfront and thats why they usually win this game.Thats all in the past and everyone is going to differ on opinions on this .
This years game will be a close game and I think if the Rockets get the line play I think they will they may end the "STREAK". This is Wellston's best team since 2002 IMO talentwise anyways.
GO ROCKETS!!!!!

You sure about that? Im pretty sure the '04 or '06 playoff teams would have their way with this years team.

You are either a kid who is to young to even remember seeing those guys play or you are just overly bias. Listen kid, I was on the field against all those guys and believe you me they were a handfull. Yes we did beat them 20-0 and im very proud of that but I will still give credit where credit is due.

I don't know about which game you are speaking, but was thinking that Brad Young had four TDs against Jackson in one game played at Jackson (2002 maybe?)

Blue and Gold I dissagree with you ,yes those teams were talented as well but I think this years team has more depth, and the difference in my eyes is Jalen Prater he is a beast.
Those were very good teams and yes they could win against this team ,but not handily...IMHO.

The '06 defense was one of the best Wellston has had in awhile. I also feel the line on the '06 team would dominate this years line. But I do agree Prater is a beast and he will be a force to be reckoned with this year and the years to come.

But in '04 and in '06 wellston had a great coach in Heath Henton

IMO, these are going to be some rough years for Wellston. Our last good talent graduated after the '06 playoff team which was our best team since 02. This years team lacks a line(like the last 2 years excpet for the most part). The talent pool in Wellston has dropped dramatically in all sports the last couple of years, and this Jackson/Wellston game will be no different. The '04 and '06 playoff teams would be a game against eachother for sure, but they would both easily run over the '09 Rockets.
