Thats a 15-5 record. I'm not so sure. They will lose to VC X2, Alex X2, and at best split with Athens and Belpre. Thats 14-6 there. Not sure this will happen. I look for anywhere between 7-13 to 10-10.

Winless in TVC Ohio unless they can get Nelsonville at Home. Better have a soft non league schedule.

Re: Wellston Basketball 09-10
Keyser-The question that many some of the posters had was what teams have the best record in the history of the TVC in basketball and overall coaching records for the history of the TVC. The comment that started it was that Combs has the most experience and coaching wins in the TVC. Other comments were that Garrett and Derrow and Pettit had alot of experience and an awful lot of wins in their careers. Belpre and Wellston and Trimble had some very good teams in the late eighties and early ninties. Could you help us? The only thing people remember is the good teams that VC have put together lately. There have been some other good runs in the league before theirs. Thanks for any help.
Re: Wellston Basketball 09-10
prepster are you a Derrow fan? Maybe hawkeye pierce can answer the Vinton County question. I read on here somewhere that VC won a title in the 70's and a bunch lately.
Re: Wellston Basketball 09-10
I have no feeling either way. I am not a specific fan of any certain coach - just curious of the TVC history(both team and coaching).

prepster...I'll see what I can do.
Coach Derrow has 271 career victories at Wellston.
As for Coach Combs at Vinton County, I've covered the majority of his coaching career, and will get the career totals I have on him which are at our regular office.
hawkeyepierce is the only other person who would know Vinton County/Coach Combs' coaching career information down to the exact numbers.
VC won the TVC title in 1973-74, then have won TVC-Ohio championships in the following years: 2003-04, 2004-05 (co-champs with Belpre), 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09

Re: Wellston Basketball 09-10
The Vinton County Vikings has competed in 898 basketball games, in 43 seasons. Currently the Vikings are 437-461, a winning percentage of .490%. Vinton County has a record of 257-252 in league play and have an overall OHSAA tournament record of 27-43.
I might be bias, but Coach Combs is an accomplished coach. He has brought Vikings' basketball program a long way and no longer are the Vikings a "gimme." Just look at the following numbers;
His overall record is 152-69 in TEN seasons, that is 15.2 wins per season.
His record at Vinton County is 144-56 in NINE seasons, that is 16 wins per season, a winning percentage of .720%.
Coach Combs's TVC record is more astounding; 73-19, including the last 36 of 39, and for an overall .793 winning percentage.
B.C. (Before Combs), the Vikings amassed ONE TVC title and FOUR Sectional titles in 34 seasons.
S.C. (Since Combs), in NINE seasons the Vikings have FIVE TVC titles, FOUR Sectional titles and a District Championship. And not to mention a 12-9 record in tournament play, his predecessors were 15-34.
I hope this clear somethings up. If not just ask.

Coach Combs is no flash in the pan. He has done a terrific job, and the Vikes remain the team to beat in the TVC Ohio . I do see Athens challenging as well as Alex and Blepre if they can get their act together.
Re: Wellston Basketball 09-10
That is an impressive resume for Coach Combs, thanks hawkeye. I will take Combs any day over Derrow or Petit, never saw Garrett coach.
