53 players this morning. That's a real improvement considering they have had less than 40 players the last umpteen years.

P-R-O-G-R-E-S-S.

Make that 54, they picked-up a player today.

53 players is a decent number, does that include frosh?

Any uniform changes for the Warriors this year, two years in the same digs is unheard of. They have changed in some capacity ever since the Grider years. Chance of a return to the Wisconsin Flying W?

The will to win has always been secondary to the will to prepare to win. My observation has been that the will to prepare to win has improved over the last several years at WHS. This is a result of many things being done correctly. Dedicated coaches, players, families, and alumni have all contributed and supported the players and the program. I am looking forward to football season and I have no doubt that the Warriors will compete. It takes large numbers of people to have success in football. Good luck to all of the boys this season !!!!!

55 players in practice today, they picked-up yet another player this morning.

Swami, the uniforms will be the same this season. The football team is slated to get new uniforms next season. They used the flying-W on helmets last year, only they were backyards. Wisconsin is suing schools over the use of the logo. You would think they would like to have high-school programs using it, but apparently not.

I know I've posted this before, but this team is big and strong. It's a real noticeable improvement, and it's due to the improved attitude and work-ethic described by Coach Duckworth.

I can't wait for contact to begin.

The Marietta Times ran a short article today about Big Blue:
http://www.mariettatimes.com/page/content.detail/id/514750.html

Another Kevin Pierson classic...ha.

55, eh?
That's awesome news.
That's rare too, to pick up 2 players after practice has started, and not to have dropped any yet?

55 is GREAT number to have and it will probably continue to be high, you have 41 on the junior high team this year! I think we have the dedication and a core group of parents that give 110% to see things and attitudes are different than in years past.

No players have dropped out . . . still 55 strong. A player was holding a pad for another player yesterday and was knocked loopy when the other player hit him in the chin with his helmet. He'll be fine, but boy I bet that hurt!

The cool temps have been great. Looks like it may be a bit warmer on Saturday, but all-in-all it's very comfortable for the teams. Nothing above the high 80s is projected for the coming 10 days. I hope we don't "pay" for this mild stuff in September.

Word out of practice has Sophomore Jeremy Hastie looking very good at CB. If he keeps it up he could definitely get some minutes there this season. As expected, Sophs Harlow OLB/RB and Lane OT/DT are looking like they will be getting lots of varsity action too. Both will be competing for starting roles.

The Warriors actually picked-up 2 more players and are up to 57 now. Nobody has dropped-out yet. We'll see what happens when the hittin' starts . . .

I agree with Harlow and Lane geting alot of time. They will be the most played sophs. Im not so sure about Hastie geting alot of time this year. Its his first time playing high school football. Arnold will be played at CB over hastie if he isn't starting some where else on D. There hasn't been any pads yet so you can't make predictions yet.

The team looks good, although it is hard to tell much going against the scout team. It will be exciting to see how the scrimmage goes on Saturday against a solid Caldwell team.

There are a couple minor injuries (Hilverding & Greathouse) but nothing that will keep anyone out more than a few days.

The practices are running very smoothly and they are very, very much ahead of where they have been at this point in the season the last few years.

Believe it, or not, the flu bug has hit the team! Also, one of the coaches is home feeling poorly.

I am sure that Warren is excited about there season ahead. Every team is looking forward to the season ahead. I will say I agree with some of what the fans in blue are saying. I just can’t wrap my head around it all. Both teams from Washington County have a very tough road ahead of them this year. I think in a lot of ways they are just alike. There are personnel issues on both teams. I agree I have not been to practice in warrior land, but I have seen some Tiger practices go down. Both teams should have a great game when the Warriors and Tigers collide. I feel the same way as Warren does I don’t think either team will play a game that they should not go into thinking they can win, I am talking about Logan and all the other teams we both play. No disrespect to any one from Logan but they know every team that they play is giving it all they have to beat them. Both teams can win all there games if the cards that night fall into place. I wish warren all the best and only hope you guys come up one point short in one game.
I am not sure but I think Parkersburg South came out ranked #1 or #2 in WV. I could be wrong about that I thought they were. I would not count on playing them and there receivers being scared or shutting there run game out for a second time, they are the real deal and look very good.
Brady Radabaugh, I herd this young man got hurt at practice and I sure hope he is ok. I herd he was a good looking player.
Also I wish the best to Coach Pifer, and his family.

Brady did get a concussion in practice that should not cause any lingering issues. However, when they performed the tests for his concussion other issues were detected and the physicians recommended that he sit out of football for a while, maybe permanently. It sounds like he could be seriously injured if he were hit in the right way. I'm not sure if he is enrolled at Warren or Belpre at this point. I just hope he takes care to avoid getting seriously hurt.

So, Warren has lost Brady for the season and I understand that another freshman player has decided to call it quits. Not bad attrition at all for 2-a-days. Still about 55 players going at it. The practices are very well organized, the coaches are on the same page, and we have not major injuries thus far. Hilverding tweaked his back, but should be practicing again next week. The coaches are looking at a couple other young players to play QB. Winland is taking snaps with at least one other player.

Henthorn is another Soph that could get considerable varsity minutes this season. He's about 5'10" and 203 this season and will help at FB and MLB. The Freshman Andrew Vincent is looking very good at WR and may get some varsity minutes there.

Daniel Scott, a soccer player who did well kicking extra-points and field-goals two seasons ago, is back kicking this year.

It's great to see Justin Rohr out this season. He is a beast, and will add depth at LB and perhaps RB/FB this season.

Finally, Grant Venham has improved fantastically as the punter. He went to several punting camps this summer and did very well. He'll really be an asset this season.

Starters that have shaken out thus far are:

Offense
QB - Clay Ellenwood - 6'2 - 200lbs - SR *
RB - Kyle Pritt - 5'11 - 195lbs - SR
FB - Kaleb Wolfe - 6'0 - 215lbs - SR *
WB - ? Arnold, Mason, Zoller
WR - ? Yocum, Cowan, Vincent
TE - Grant Venham - 6'3 - 200lbs - JR *
OT - Codey Alfred - 6'5 - 225lbs - SR * or Joey Lane - 6'1 - 265lbs - Soph or Nathan Greathouse - 6'1 - 310lbs - JR
OG - Jon Arbuckle - 6'0 - 215lbs - SR *
C - Dustin Timberman - 6'0 - 245lbs - JR *
OG - Brian Hendrix - 5'11 - 265lbs - JR
OT - See OT above

Defense
DE - Codey Alfred - 6'5 - 235lbs - SR *
DT - Joey Lane - 5'10 - 265lbs - SO
DT - Brian Hendrix - 5'11 - 250lbs - JR
DE - Tim Morrison - 6'0 - 210lbs - JR
OLB - Evan Arnold - 5'11 - 177lbs - SR
ILB - Kaleb Wolfe - 6'0 - 215lbs - SR *
ILB - Jon Arbuckle - 6'0 - 205lbs - SR *
OLB - Kyle Pritt - 5'11 - 195lbs - SR *
CB - Grant Venham - 6'3 - 180lbs - JR *
CB - Eric Mason - 5'10 - 160 - SR *
FS - Justin Yocum - 5'10 - 170lbs - SR *

Better hope he is enrolled at Warren. Letting a player enrolled at another school practice with you is a serious violation.

Sheesh. His father had enrolled him at Warren, but now they say he may be back at Belpre. So, no serious violations were committed. Not even any itsy-bitsy violations.

Barry, did you know this is your most active thread? You post here more than you do in Marietta's thread. Why so much attention for the Warrior program? Worried about the visit to Barlow this year?

I have tried to get conversation going on the Marietta thread, no one talks. The Marietta thread is boring, your guys's is more fun!! I am not any more worried than any other year.
