A great Princeton coach once said, "It takes more than talent to win".

(But I say, it sure do help.)

There's a big difference in being the champion and being the favorite..

Why does chicken coop have Valley ranked #2 in his top 8 and Wheelersburg isn't even mentioned. I think that pretty well settles this argument don't you?....but at least he was humble and benevolent enough to place his team 2nd so as to (pretend) not to show any bias.

..and Minford isn't mentioned either. :122247
The argument will be settled the next two weeks....I'll be here to deal with the results...will you? I have Valley in the top 2 because they are good...and they deserve to be there. Wins over 7-1 West (Who beat Minford 40-0) and 6-2 Chesapeake. Valley is playing VERY well, and beating the teams they are supposed to, handily. Now, I didnt wanna do this because its stupid (AND ITS A POLL THAT HAS NO BEARING ON ANYTHING except to make guys like you piss and moan) but here is WHY I have WEST AND VALLEY in the poll and NOT Burg.

EX: 1
West 40
Minford 0

Burg 21
Minford 6

EX: 2
Burg 34
Waverly 14 (Burg trailed at the half, 14-7)

Valley 56
Waverly 14 (Valley led 42-6 at the half)

Valley and West are playing the SAME COMPETITION, but playing better. NONE of this or the POLL HAS ANY BEARING on what will happen friday night, but if Burg beats Valley, of course they will be right up there, and Valley will be out of the poll altogether. Biased? Not really... :122249

Maybe you should try reading the thread before you get all hyper. The "argument" was WHO IS FAVORED TO WIN this week.... not who is where and why on some goofy poll.
I merely pointed to your poll as justification for my contention that Valley should be favored based on a Valley fan poll, and THAT argument needs to be settled before this friday.... not the next two weeks as you said.
It was all just in fun 'til you got hyper and jumped in.....I honestly could care less where you'd like to place your team on a poll....or who is favored. It WAS just fun conversation.

Just because the scores were closer on the Burg's games means NOTHING. You can keep thinking Burg doesn't stand a chance and that Valley will win with no problem. I myself think it will be a close game. Hopefully my Pirates will come out on top. Can't wait till Friday night!!!!!

The Minford game should have been 28-6 as the non call on the pass interference cost the Burg 6. If he is not tackled before the ball gets there, it is a TD.

Also, take away that first drive of Minford's and they have 60 some yards of total offense. SIXTY!!!!!!!!!

You can sit here all day and compare scores but it never matters in games like this. You throw out the common opponents and the scores. Valley will come into this game sky high as will the Burg. I think the Burg needs this to be a low scoring game like 14-7. If they try to get in a shootout with Valley, it will get ugly. Burg will need to control the ball for long periods of time. Sometimes the best defense is your offens. If Valley doesn't have the ball on offense, makes it a little harder for them to score.

On a side note. Valley, if you do win, don't come out onto the field like you just won the Superbowl and tear the beejezzus out of the turf. * * COUGH* * COUGH* Like Minford did in 2000 *COUGH* *COUGH* Even though the field is coming up after the last game (maybe, Burg could still host in week 11 if they win out) against West, they still have to play a game on it the next week.

Good luck Pirates and here is to an injury free game.

I believe that Valley had more talent than then Burg in both 2002 and 2003. The 2002 game was the one the Burg scored on the last play of the game to send it to OT and then won 27-26 in OT and the 2003 game Burg won 21-0. That was the game Burg returned two punts for TD.

Like was said before, why would it be an upset if Burg wins this game? Wasn't Valley undefeated last year when they played the Burg and Burg had one loss? I guess that was an upset also?????

'01 was the year that Burg (Dustin Winebrenner) returned two punts for TD's. They also returned an INT for a TD in that game, which ended in a 42-14 win by the Pirates.

Was last year an upset? No, I don't think so. But, that's also because I don't base my thoughts on records, but rather on what each team brings to the field. Of course, you don't want to focus your responses towards someone like me who presents facts, now do you? Go ahead and twist and turn whatever you need to, in order to make yourself feel better. The bottom line, the kids are gonna settle this on the field, as they do every year. The Pirates have earned each and every one of the 10 wins they've collected over the Indians since this series restarted. You'll not catch me saying or thinking otherwise. It's called being realistic.

And, the reason it would be an upset if Burg wins this game is because Valley is flat out better this year! Write it down, take a picture, I don't care what you do with that statement. Hang it up in the Pirates locker room for all I care. I seriously doubt any true competitor gives a darn what some old never has been like me has to say about it.

You can twist it however you want... I'm not saying anything about upsets and I'm not gonna argue stuff about past games. There have been times Valley's talent has been on par with Burg, but Burg has always had the game breaker. Shank and Reinhart won that game almost by themselves last year. Incredible performance by both. You're claiming things that can't be proven one way or another... All I know is Burg has beaten Valley every year. Curse? I don't believe in them... Burg has proven each of those years to be a step above Valley through SOC titles and playoff appearances. I don't question your program or your success.

My point is, you can say is it an upset or is it not an upset... Frankly I don't know and don't care. I do know, unlike past seasons, I have watched both teams play and Valley's talent is superior. I don't know what will happen on Friday, but I like Valley's chances.

Yes, we will. And, win, lose or draw...good luck to your Pirates! I can assure you that I believe both teams and both communities will win or lose with CLASS and that both of the teams on the field will represent their respective communities like the fine young men that they are! We are all fortunate to be able to root these two fine programs on and I look forward to the game and the atmosphere. I'm sure it will be well played and well respected.

Good luck to all involved on a safe and excellent night of football, but let's go PURPLE!!!!

I think what some Burg fans are saying is, it's gonna be a great game, but given the history ones gotta favor Burg. Every year you hear it from Valley fans that the talent is great and they are for real. They come in with their chests pumped out and then when the ball gets kicked, the Burg jinx kicks in. Valley cant punch it in once in the red zone. It happens EVERY year! (exception to last season) So yeah I also think Burg, cause Valley ALWAYS says they are for real and never deliver. Regardless of talent. I hope its a GREAT game. I know Ed Miller will be packed to the gills and I'd love to be the lucky one to hit the Split the Pot.

Until Valley looses that Monkey on their back and puts a win in that column, I, Like many others, will say Burg!
(this is in no way saying that Valley doesnt stand a chance, just prove it.)

Go Burg!

Take away the 20 uncalled holding calls against Minford DE's and Shears goes nowhere fast the first half. Give Minford the pick 6 from the endzone and Burg is down 2TD's. You can cry all you want, but the crying can both ways and fast!

Superbowl? Are you kidding? I see no reason for people to not get excited over a big win. And the field? How could you even tear up Burgs field? It is terrible. And its grass, not turf.

Sorry Yabba, but that is a pretty classless post. And they might as well get the trophy polished up to give to Valley Friday. I have seen both play and if Valley's bus doesnt break down on 335, and the Valley kids play hard, this one wont even be close. Burg will finish 7-3 and I dont think that gets them into week 11. Valley will finish 10-0 and the region will come down to them and Nelsonville York.

Valley 42
Burg 14

Weve always backed our kids, and usually always have a talented team....whats wrong with talking about your team. As we have all said, this Valley team is VERY GOOD, if not the best we've had in a LONG, LONG time. Valley has NEVER had 3 players on the field at one time like Keller, Yates, and Dwyer. Friday cant get here fast enough.
