athens actually would've done pretty well this year
they wouldve lost to logan and ironton guaranteed
the games between jackson and portsmouth and zanesville would've been a toss up
they would definitely beat marietta and gallia
warren would be a good game but athens would probably win
their old non league schedule was N-Y, Meigs, Alex, meaning that athens goes 6-4 or 7-3 ish depending on who wasn't scheduled from the above list
Nelsonville-York (7-1) 14; Athens (7-1) 13

How many games would they have won in the SEOAL this year? You can talk about soccer and drama club all you want, being the biggest school two divisions higher than every team but one gives more boys that are capable of playing football. I do not understand what is so hard to understand that. Athens took the easy way out and made their schedule much weaker than in years past. I don't understand how you can compare this years team to any in the past. Teams several years ago that did not have a very good record would have finished at worst 6-4 this year at worst.
I think you are missing the point. They are trying to rebiuld there program. No they would not be able to hang with Logan this year. If they would have stayed in the SEOAL and got crushed week in and week out they would never be able to rebuild there program. If you look at next years schedule you will see that they are starting to schedule up.
They will be playing:
Gallia (D-4)
Warren (D-2)
Parkersburg South They would be D-1 or D-2 in Ohio, but are D-3 Equivelent for points.
Chillicothe (D-3)

Athens fans, just ignore the clowns, embrace the rivalries, and quit testifying for yourselves. You cannot overcome the ignorance of the others who bash you and your kids. If we cut off the open enrollment children from neighboring school districts some of our sports would move divisions, not all of them though. We do not get open enrollment children who play sports, but we get plenty of open enrollment students.
The people from these rival schools that really count in our world do respect and appreciate us, the others are consumbed by their own ignorance. Pity them.

9-1, still 12th in the Region for Athens. Seems they should be the ones to take pity. The non-league schedule is gonna have to be monster for them to ever make the playoffs. Unless they can go 8-2/9-1 in a weak year for the region.
If travel was a concern, I still wonder why they took Logan (same region and Division size) off the schedule? The open date was there. Instead, they got a 2 win Bloom Carrol and a D-6 sized W. Va team. Also much further away.
I am neutral here, but see it without blinders. I hope they rebuild their program. Logan has a few more years of mediocrity coming too. Win streaks ALL come to an end.
Good luck next year.

If Athens had defeated NY, would that have given them enough points to make the playoffs this year? Athens finished 12th at 9-1, but I know a win over NY would have given them many second level points. Would that have been enough to bump them to the top 8?

The bottom line is we couldn't compete against teams our own size, but I guess at least we're winning.
Are you still upset your boy rode the bench in Football and Baseball? Regardless of what league Athens played in your kid still couldn't find the field!
