East Richland Christian School to start 6-man football
Just read about this today. That's correct - 6-man FOOTBALL.
This is a new school consolidated from two smaller Christian schools in Belmont County near St. Clairsville.
They're putting together football team and have something like 30 boys in the school to the numbers are obviously down so far.
They are looking for opponents and you can read more in two newspapers - - www.news-register.net and www.timesleaderonline.com
The ERC nickname is the Lions. Thought that was ironic that a Christian school would pick 'LIONS' as a nickname.

Good for them. 6-man is better than no-man.
Re: East Richland Christian School to start 6-man football
How many schools play 6 man in Ohio, or Pa., cause I know of none in WV.
Kind of hard to find games, if noone even has a team.

Re: East Richland Christian School to start 6-man football
My daughter attends this school so I have some more info. The coach has contacted several JV and freshman teams and hope to play them. They are willing to play the 6 man rules. Many freshman teams do not exist in our area due to low numbers and they dress with the varisty but see little playing time. My thought is you have to start somewhere and this is a start. Most of the boys are 9 and 10th graders so maybe by the time they are seniors it will all work out. The high school that merged with this elementary and jr high (Faith Community Christian) has played flag football for about 4 years. They have played against Parkersburgh Christian, East Liverpool Christian, Tri-state Christian in Weirton, Muskingum Co Christian in Zanesville and Spiro Academy in Wheeling. I had heard in the spring that Parkersburgh Christian had hoped to field a 6-man team but evedently not.

Its a way of life man..No need to say its a joke. Be glad that our Great God lets us live everyday.

I know a bunch of the people that run Parkersburg Christian.
I ask them and see what kind of ideas they have for a 6 man football team.
Think it would be kind of neat to see a 6 man game.

6 man football is big in NC, they even have a state championship game. It is very fun to watch. This would be great idea for St. Joe to look at.

How are the rules different for 6 man football?
Re: East Richland Christian School to start 6-man football
My Dad played 6 man football.......Cheshire High School, Class of 1942. In fact, I think that with the possible exception of Gallia Acacemy, all of the local schools in Gallia County fielded 6 man teams at one time. My Dad always said that Bidwell was nearly unstoppable because of the Howard brothers. He said they left a trail of bodies behind them and then went back and helped them all get back up!!

I'm sure Nebraska and the Dakotas have 6 or 8-man football. I would go watch one of these games if i ever found a schedule.
Even a good 6-man team could beat some of the 11-man teams I've seen this year.

East Richland is playing Parkersburg Christian in St. Clairsville Sat 10/31 3 or 3:30 at the field near Belco Crafts. Then at Parkersburg the next Saturday. Then 11/11 a 6-man tournament in Dayton TN.
About the rules, I don't know all of them but there are 3 linemen that are eligible for passes. You get alot of what looks like a screen pass as they can stay and block or release. Kind of high scoring like arena football.

East Richland Christian beat Parkersburg Christian Sat 10/31 19-13. They are playing again at Parkersburg this Saturday morning. Last game was very muddy. Verry little passing, mostly running, very exciting though. It sort of seemed like a freshman game because of the inexperience of both teams. But like I said on a previous post - you have to start somewhere. ERCS bought helmets and red jerseys and were given pads, pants and white jerseys by a couple of local public schools. For a small school it is a big expense to get started.

This is really cool. Do they have any more games left?

I believe that the East Richland Christian School promotes an excellent education. It also offers extramural activities that enhance the students’ talents. ERCS also gives emphasis on the spirituality of each student where they give daily Bible advices.

I think everybody is eligible to receive passes in 6-man.
What 6-man would do is give schools (like some of these Christian schools) whose numbers are just too small to field 11-man teams a chance to play.
Hell, there are public schools in some rural areas that have trouble putting 11-man teams together.

I think if a school struggles in football they should look into this. There are some schools turning to bowling, archery and even fishing as team sports to replace football from what I have read on here. I think those schools should try 6 man or even 8 man football instead. Heck the TVC could put a few teams up for this. It would make the league more respectable in regular football, and at the same time give those other schools a chance to win at football. A win, win situation if you ask me.
