Shawnee State Fall Exposure Camp

Post by futbolisweird »

Shawnee State University Baseball Head Coach Ted Tom would like to announce that Sunday October 18th is the date for their first ever Fall Exposure Camp to be held at Branch Rickey Park in historic downtown Portsmouth. Camp will begin at 10am with registration beginning at 9:30am. All high school aged players are eligible to participate in the one day event that will have a cost of $50 for pitchers and position players or $75 for dual players. The Fall Exposure Camp will include a professional style workout, introduction to the Shawnee State University baseball program, and a tour of campus.

The camp is designed to allow prospective players to show what skills they have at a relatively low cost and it also allows the SSU staff determine who may be a great fit for the Bears in the future. “We have had great success with our camps in terms of being able to sign players directly from those camps,” says assistant coach Chris Moore. “Our first year we signed three players and last year, we increased that number to seven. To have signed 10 players from our camps in the past shows how effective a tool these camps are in the recruiting process. It not only allows players to come in and show us what they can do while gaining first hand knowledge of the SSU program, but it also allows the coaching staff and current players to show off Shawnee State University and Portsmouth. This is best case scenario for us.”

Last year, we had a great showing from southern Ohio and we would like to keep that tradition going. We did not have as many Scioto County athletes as we would have liked, so we are hoping to do as much as we possibly can to show the hometown kids the great things happening here right underneath their noses.

Registration forms need to be returned by no later than Oct. 12th. You can find the registration form and more information at http://www.shawnee.edu/off/athl/

Any questions, please call Chris Moore at (740) 821-4351.

Any player would benefit greatly from going to this camp. Of course, it could land a spot on the SSU roster next year, but if also gives the player an idea of what colleges are looking, what to expect, and gives them an idea of where they stand against other competition. Being a former college baseball player, I would recommend attending this camp to all players wishing to move on to college baseball.

At what grade level in High School should a player begin attending these showcases? My son is now a sophomore and will probably be starting catcher on varsity this year.

i'd take him now. not only does it get his name out there, but the players will learn things when they go and it may be what they need to learn to take them to the next level

Never too early to start. I would take him if he seems interested in playing college baseball. This will also get him comfortable with the format of a showcase so over the next several years he will be used to the atmosphere. If he is luckly and good enough the SE District all stars can attend a showcase and games at the Chillicothe VA. In any case if he wants to play college baseball 1) work hard in the off season to hone is baseball skills. For a catcher its about pop time from home to 2nd among the obvious solid hitting. 2) get as much exposure as possible by attending showcases or camps at colleges he may be interested in.

Good Luck
