To many stupid penalties tonight, Valley played a great game tonight but just lost it in the end, as for my Grove, the team that was on the field tonight needs to go find the team that was on the field the past two weeks and tell them they have a game next week that will be huge toward the playoffs.

That was a great football game, by two teams that played their tails off. As many of us said, Valley is faster and Valley's passing game vs. CG's run game would be the match up. The Indians were just as good as the Grovers, but just came up short. The Indians are a tough little team that can play with anybody... well, I'm reserving judgement after seeing the Burg score. lol

I couldn't be more proud of how Valley played tonight.

Although, Bernie and the boys in stripes were not up to par tonight.

Well, everything was pretty spot on with what I said. Valley was faster, CG was more powerful. What a great game to watch and you really hate to see a loser there. Valley needs to wrap up on a few plays (KO return, 4th down play) but to get down 8 and come back with under 3 minutes to go, you can see the inprovement in this team. SCRAPPY team that does not quit, and they have some serious speed.

Although, the SOC's 3rd best almost took out the OVC's best @ home....

Hey Chicken I think Fairland might have something to say about who is the best team in the OVC . But congrats to the hornets on a big win and go OVC!

This game was worth the price of admission in terms of two pretty evenly matched teams playing till the final whistle. Both teams had some wow moments, and both teams shot themselves in the foot multiple times.

By "pretty evenly matched", I mean talent level; not style of play. Fun game to watch.

At first, I was very disappointed in the Grove; they had a chance to win by two scores but fumbled inside the 15 yard line and they let Valley tie it up.
I then got to thinking and now I must say that I'm pleased. Coal Grove played its worst game of the year and still beat what could arguably be the best team they've played so far. Stupid penalties, terrible tackling/pursuit, terrible pass defense with a smattering of good coverage here and there, turnovers, missed blocking assignments, etc.
All I have to say is: Boo Woods.
204 yards on 4 touches (one of those touches was the 98-yard kickoff return).

If Valley plays every game as tough as this one, they could be in the playoffs.

More stats: Frank Delawder 20 carries 67 yards, 2 TDs; Oakie Haynes 19 carries 83 yards, TD;

Evan Ferguson: 4-11 passing 100+ yards.

Valley's stats coming later. Utley probably had over 250 passing yards; he had over 100 in the first half.

fuzzhead,

I'm disappointed in u. I realize u look through rose-colored glasses, as do the rest of us, but your post really bothers me. Do u honestly believe that game was a case of Valley playing well and CG playing poorly? That's amazing and exactly the opposite of what I thought u would say. I really believed that u were a fan of football and not just Coal Grove. Unfortunately, your post comes across as a slap in the face to what actually took place on BOTH sides of the field last night. I'm sure u won't like my post, and that's ok. Good luck to the Hornets the rest of the way, except for next week (sorry SOC ties are tight for me).

To the CG fans who won with class thank you. I'm sure your coaching staff will help your team improve each week and you certainly have the potential of a playoff team on your hands. Other than the fact that they were beating my alma mater, they were fun to watch. Thanks for the quality game.

Coal Grove played its worst game of the young season last night, Jesco. I think most Coal Grove posters on here would agree with that. That doesn't mean Valley didn't play a good game or that they didn't deserve to win just as much as CG. Now how I come across as classless for saying that is beyond me.

Well Fuzz, I guess I am classless to, because what I saw last night was the Grove play their worse game by far this season, now if that offends Valley fans I am sorry but it's true, I really believe Valley was kept in the game a little by Grove mistakes, I don't know how many missed tackles I saw last night and the penalties last night were the kind you do in week one not week three.

I am an unbiased observer, but do any of you Coal Grove fans think some of the broken tackles and "poor" play be attributed to playing against better competition and not strictly poor play? Sometimes playing better competition makes your teams seem to not play as well as it did previously not because you did poorly, but because some of your past competition wasn't as good and made you look better than you are and better competition made things not look as easy. Finally, it could be a combo, the penalties may have been from over anxiousness and but the missed tackles and poor play came from Valley being a better opponent than PV and Meigs and a little less than stellar play. Things aren't always as good or bad as they really are, just slanted such by those rose colored glasses.

Offensively, Valley isn't as good as Meigs. Defensively, they are much better, but CG still had over 400 yards of total offense. Like I said, this was the best team CG has played all year. But Coal Grove's miscues were mainly on them last night. That's not a stab at Valley, it was just plain as day to anyone who's seen CG play more than once this year.
And the missed tackles came from either hitting too high or trying to arm-tackle mostly and neither of those will work against any team.
Valley putting up close to 160 yards passing and three passing TDs was a mixture of Valley's talent and the fact that Coal Grove, despite their strong start, is still weak in pass coverage.

2_trap and fuzzhead,

I was a little harsh with the classless stuff. Here is my point. I realize that you all saw many mental and physical mistakes by your team. At the same time, we saw just as many unforced errors by our team. To Coal Grove's credit, there were also several mistakes that they forced Valley into.

Overall, it's just a little hard to take reading where u believe u kept Valley in the game due soley to your own unforced errors, when Valley played every bit as sloppy at times. If you read my initial post after the game, I had already made mention of those mistakes by BOTH teams. I'm sorry, but after all the talk and "math" leading up to this game about Valley being the same team, and Coal Grove being at least 22 points better...it's just tough to see comments that read as if Valley played so well and Coal Grove didn't. I believe there is not a lot of difference in the talent level of these two teams. I believe CG is a little better team right now and they won.

Best of luck to you.
