Calling all Portsmouth Trojan Fans

Post by Trojan_FB_Alum »

This past week we had a great turn out for the opening of the Trojan Coliseum, and will need another packed house this week against the Burg.

My hat is off to the student sections that were on their feet the entire game and were very loud. However I must say it is a real shame that other Trojan fans can not stand and cheer for the Trojans. For instance Trojan Dave never got out of his seat all night. J/k ha ha ha ha ha ha But in all seriousness many fans didn’t, not even to clap for the fight song. I think this is absolutely deplorable, that our young men are out there busting their butts and we can’t even cheer them on.

I hope we can have a better showing of fan support this week. Remember everybody that fan is an abbreviation short for FANATICAL. (Synonyms include obsessive, dedicated and over-enthusiastic) I don’t think our fans can be described that way, but we can change that this week.

I would like to encourage the pep club to make Trojan milk jugs like we had for the playoff runs in the early half of the decade, and pass them out before the game. Just have kids bring jugs to school the fill with rocks, or any hard objects that will make noise.

On a side note The Voice of The Portsmouth Trojans, Mr. Skip Hickman has been getting some bad reviews on here lately, and I would just like to say that Skip is one person that actually exemplifies the Trojan fan that I wish more people would. Sure he gets a little excited from time to time and says things that are close to the line but it is out of his love for the Trojans. I personally think he is the best PA man in this half of the state. I take pride in the fact that other schools dislike him.

Its one thing to announce the game and it is another for him "skip" to go on the way he did at the Portsmouth, West game. I was there and left with the worst headache from his none stop nonsense. I plan on being there this week but if he "skip" goes on like he did this past week it will be the last game I attend this year at the new stadium

There were a lot of people at the game who are not normally at Trojan Games.

Beautiful stadium, great game, excellent way to spend a saturday night. All but the announcer. He did'nt shut up the whole game. I can form my own opinions of the game. I don't need to know his. PHS had its night to shine, and all Portsmouth fans should have been embrrassed by this fool. He called out the refs on many occasions. Even called the police to get some people of the fence. Even though PHS sold more tickets then they can hold. Give the split the pot ticket winner 1 min and 30 sec to get to the press box. I'm just glad PHS won because its hard telling what would have happened, had West made their extra point. This is why school districts have drug testing, PHS must have let one slip through the CRACKS.

BTW, leave my former coach alone.

He's doing this for the kids!

Why would they play on the same night and both at home?

Im certainly with everyone who feels like the PA announcer behaved like a clown all night long! Anyone who doesn't feel this way is either a bias Trojan fan and/or a relative of the announcer.

I did not start this thread so everyone would have a place to bash Skip he has done a great job for many years, and I know the boys love him.

This thread is about Trojan fans getting off the butts and cheering on their team.

COME ON TROJANS THE RED AND BLUE ROYSTER CULT NEEDS MORE COWBELL

The PA Announcer for the Portsmouth Trojans (Skip) had both plus and minuses about his performance at the Portsmouth-West game.
1. He did speak on a ongoing basis about things going on, but that is what the PA announcer is there for.
2. Went a little overboard with the flag statement, but again a couple of times was very humorous.
3. The leaning over the fence speech was repeated way too many times, however, the gang of fence hangers obiously heard it mentioned the first time because 2 of them, looked up to the pressbox area and folded their arms, then continued to lean over the fence. I mean, a stadium built like that, you want it to remain nice, not with bented fences and plus the saftey factor as well.
4. The time for the winners to get to the pressbox was cutting it close with as many people was packed in that stadium, a winner from the other section of the stadium, it would take them at least a couple of minutes to leave their seat and go around the field house and up to the pressbox. 5 minutes would have been better. That would allow winners time to get to the pressbox and time for another drawling, if they didn't show up.
5. Really the only thing I thought was off-base was after the flag was called on a few occasions, was a statement said "there we go again, shooting ourselves in the foot" or the phrase "what or why was that called" over the intercom. That was a Radio Broadcaster/Coach that got carried away. It would be really nice to have the Ref with a wireless mic, to make the call. It adds to the atmosphere. Plus no correction would be needed if response was a wrong call
All in all, the stadium is a classy place, great sound system, scoreboard and field. If they had a little more room, like cutting into the leavy they made, might get rid of the pads. Like the same distance between the fieldhouse and the endzone. That should be enough. It would be nice to see more visitors bleachers too. If the home stands are 25 rows high, the visitors should be at least 15. I know I saw alot of West fans in the home stands, because there wasn't any room in their bleachers to sit.
Also, I aggree, there really needs to be alot more support from the Trojans fans. Alot of schools were there in the home stands, to take in the atmosphere of the new stadium, but I saw very few Portsmouth fans, standing and clapping to the fight song.
Something that might help the band with their sound to the home stands will be to turn to face the stands and play the fight song.

Just some thoughts to ponder, no bashing intended!
