Remember, last year against Minford, Coal Grove shot themselves in the foot way too many times. They lost two fumbles, failed to score twice inside the Minford 10, and had around 100 yards in penalties. They were also playing on the road. The Grove started out 1-2 last year against the same three teams they faced this year. Now they're 3-0. They haven't lost a home game since week 2 of last year against Paint Valley.
Don't get me wrong, I consider Minford to be the favorite in this game, but I sure like CG's odds a lot better than I did last year. . . 8)

Minford has thrown the ball 12 times this year (7-12, 164 yards, 3 TDs, 23.4 yd/pass).
I think CG should key in on Sloan and make Oecsh try to beat them with the pass.

sloan, is 1 of 5 that run the ball :122246 for the falcons...he may have touched the ball 4 times last week....make that 1 of 7 if you count the recievers .. i think the two recievers were the ones to return 2 opening kickoff returns back to back. wellston , huntington......should be a great game..

I'll take my Falcons in this one. D-line will need to play aggressive and win the battle in the trenches. Alot of double teams and dip-n-rips in practice. :122249

I wouldn't forget about McCormick (if he is able to play).

After three games, here's what Minford's rushing attack looks like:

Sloan: 28 carries, 399 yd (14.25 yd/c)

McCormick: 17 carries, 148 yd (8.7 yd/c)

Bryan: 13 carries, 168 yd (12.9 yd/c)

Piquet: 2 carries, 80 yd (40.0 yd/c)
_______________________________

Sloan: 28 carries, 399 yd (14.24 yd/c)

McCormick, Bryan, Piquet: 32 carries, 396 yd (12.38 yd/c)

The Huntington game was a blowout. There was no need to keep giving him the ball and risk injury against such a weak opponent. The same applied to the RV game in week one. When they actually played a decent team (Wellston) and they were in a dog fight, he got 21 touches (20 rushes, 1 reception) and got 3 scores, including the winning score. He got almost twice as many carries as McCormick (12) and 5 times as many as Bryan (4).

That's evident but if you key on him as you suggested you have 2 others there that are averaging 10 yards per carry..... and make no mistake about it, Oechs CAN throw the ball.

Oesch is a heck of a player. I've watched him play CG the past two years.
I also know that Minford doesn't pass a lot. They'd rather run. Now Minford could come out throwing and try to catch CG off guard, but you have to at least take into consideration how they played against Wellston - it was a close game, just like this game should be close. And in that close game, they gave it to Sloan mostly.
They didn't pass against CG last year. They were outgained by around 60 yards in that game, but ground out a tough win playing smart, smash-mouth football and capitalizing on CG mistakes.

Earlier thsi year I predicted Minford's only loss would be to the Hornets. FORGET THAT! After watching both teams, I have to go with the Falcons, but it'll be a heck of a game. :122245

Lets not forget one thing here...this game is going to be played @ CG......on the turf....the fast get faster and the slow....well they're just not as slow. I see this as being a tough...teeth rattlin...snot bubbling....slugfest...with Minford breaking a few long runs and that being the difference. The Grove is going to try and pound it right at the Minford front 7 with Dewalder...and then try to break one with Haynes (spelling??) and the other running back and or QB, but if Minford can withstand the Groves "haymakers", then they should win this game. Oh yeah Minford isnt blind to the fact that everyone thinks their pass defense is weak..they will be expecting the play action plays.

Good luck and Good Health to both teams.

Go Big Red!!!!

Oh yeah I found this on the "other" site. Thought the Falcon faithful would get a kick out of this.

"minford will not be able to stop coal groves running backs we have 4 great back we can throw at you. and this year we throw the football pretty good too.. coal grove will win 34-21..."

That guy is right: CG does have 4 great backs and they throw the ball well.
He's biased, but he made some true statements. Do I think CG will blow minford out? It would be nice, but it's not realistic.

Paint Valley will be near the bottom of their conference this year. Stop Workman and you'll beat the Bearcats. . .

First of many true tests to come this season, Minford will be down 10 points when they get off the bus and will probably have a TD or long run called back early so they might as well plan on that. I say that Minford will be ready to go in what has become a good rivalry in the past few years. Minford will run the ball that's a given, but can pass if they need to. CG is big and strong as usual, also faster than they have been but I don't think they have the total team speed to match up with Minford. I'll take my Falcons in a statement game, doing just that, making a statement that they are the real deal again, Minford get's some momentum rolling early and takes control the second half. Falcons win 35-22.

MuletownManiac, why call someone from Coal Grove out on that, he is just stating fact, just like I am stating that Minford has had a weak schedule up to now, the teams you have played are 0-9 and haven't exactly been close in their games, except for Wellston. Let's face fact, Minford has had it easy for the first three weeks and could pay for it the next couple of weeks, the Grove has been battle tested twice this season already, they now what it takes to win close games and how to play when their backs are against the wall, Minford has played a River Valley team that is struggling , a Wellston team that is picking up steam(I will give you this one), and a Hungtington team that hasn't been in a game all year. Just stating some facts with some opinions just to show that it can go both ways.
