Can we end this thread? Both teams are now moving on and have big games this week. 2trap that stat you jsut showed proves nothing besides you guys had some false starts since you have 5-30 and you cant really argue a false start. Several fans even said that the refs missed calls on BOTH sides.

I have some stats that will give the best summary for fans from both sides.

Through the first four weeks of the season, the SOC II stands @ 18-6 and the OVC stands @ 6-18 overall. Additionally, EVERY team in the OVC has at least one loss to an SOC II team, and NO team in the OVC has a winning record against the SOC II this season. In fact, the OVC has just one win against the SOC II: CG over Valley.

Never fear OVC fans. You still have a few shots this week as Rock Hill faces Wheelersburg, Chesapeake battles West, and South Point faces Valley.

Thanks for playing along CG and OVC fans. It's no wonder the CG fans have taken the last two weeks so life and death...what else is there to look forward to?

Who's debating which conference is better? I thought that was a given.
Coal Grove doesn't come into a game nervous because conference pride is on the line. They play for themselves, not to make everyone else in the OVC look legit (or at least that's how they should play).
Minford's other opponents are 0-12 thus far. Yes, they beat a playoff-caliber Coal Grove team by the skin of their teeth and yes they are a very good team, but don't trash CG for playing a soft conference schedule when Minford has played a soft non-conference schedule. Both teams have cupcakes on the schedule. The only difference is that Minford plays most of their cupcakes in the first 5 games and Coal Grove plays most of theirs during the last 5 games.

Thank you, and good luck to Minford the rest of the way. I have a strong hunch these two will be in the top 8 come November.

If Minfords opponents were 0-12 and they beat CG, how is CG a playoff caliber team? Valley has beaten opponents that are 1-11, and CG only beat them by a TD? CG will win the OVC imo but they arent that good a team so far as this season has progressed and as far as records are concerned.

That is like me saying that BURG is no good cause Ironton beat them like a jr high team, and a mediocre one at that. Get off your high horse

Are you implying that if Minford had lost the game, they wouldn't be playoff-worthy? You seem to be suggesting that CG isn't playoff-worthy just because they lost to Minford by three points. Minford will be in the playoffs this year barring a total collapse which is extremely unlikely. They are a good football team, just like last year.
I made the post I did because Curious George took it upon himself to belittle Coal Grove for playing a soft schedule. He made the below statement:

Curious George wrote:Thanks for playing along CG and OVC fans. It's no wonder the CG fans have taken the last two weeks so life and death...what else is there to look forward to?

He seems to think that Coal Grove's big aim each season is to somehow "measure up" to the SOCII as if they have some big chip on their shoulders. I don't think Coal Grove comes into a game against Minford or Valley thinking, "Man, I wanna beat these guys just because they're SOCII so the OVC will look better!".
I don't think the Hornets care how the rest of the OVC does against a given conference. All that should matter is how they do against each of their opponents. They play for Coal Grove High School, not for Fairland's or Rock Hill's or Chesapeake's honor and certainly not to impress some idiot on SEOPs who has nothing better to do than belittle players and fans of OVC football teams.

You calling someone else an idiot is certainly the pot calling the kettle black.

It's not even a shame anymore. It's just downright hiliarious to read your posts. If you knew 1/10th of what you present yourself to know, you would be a pretty knowledgible football mind.

Coal Grove is an above average football team and from what I can tell, they play hard. I don't mean to seem as if I'm insulting the players for Coal Grove or any of the teams in the OVC personally. However, this is a sports chat forum where fans chat about sports and share their opinions. If people are offended by those opinions they probably shouldn't be reading. The reality is, I personally believe Coal Grove is severely overhyped by some of their fans. The Hornets have narrow wins against Meigs (1-3) and Valley (3-1 and still probably not a playoff caliber team), both at home; and a loss at home to Minford (4-0) who still has quite a tough road to go in order to be a playoff team themselves. My post has nothing to do with a school's scheduling "intentions", nor is it meant as an insult to ANY of the teams mentioned. I love sports and I love watching kids go out and compete as hard as they can...regardless of talent level. What I can't stand is people who overhype a group of kids and represent very one-sided views without at least having the courtesy to acknowledge being a homer. If you want to talk up one team or another because it's your favorite team, then have at it. That's loyalty and that's great. It just drives me insane when people do it, but want to act as though they are doing it based on a non-biased knowledge of the subject matter only. When you make such posts, you are opening YOURSELF up to comments about the team YOU follow. I have no harsh feelings towards the kids themselves. In fact, I love the competitiveness of the OVC year in and year out. I made a post on another topic about the OVC and how exciting it is that it seems like every year there is at least one game in league play where an underdog pulls off a nice win against a favored team. As for this particular Coal Grove team, I have seen them play, and I have seen this group of kids play over the last couple of years (those who have been on the field for multiple years). I have ALWAYS enjoyed watching them in the multiple games each year that I have seen. However, just because I think they play hard; just because I think they are above average; just because I don't mean to insult them personally; none of those things make them as good as you have paraded around this site professing them to be. The rest of the OVC was inlcuded in my post because Coal Grove is the cream of the crop in the league this year. As for the Hornets, they have two very narrow victories at home over one team that will be lucky to finish .500 and another that will be lucky to finish as high as 3rd in their own league, and a loss at home to a team that is yet to face the meat of their schedule (although, I do believe Minford has the potential to finish as high as 2nd in the SOC II and qualify for the playoffs). The only "big" win of the season for the Hornets came against Paint Valley, who is a below average team this year. I just don't see (the same has been said by multiple coaches/scouts from multiple schools) where the Hornets resume to this point in the season points to them being such a powerful football team as you profess them to be.

It's really sad that a kid who played end, guard and tackle in high school is still playing it in his early 20's. That's sitting on the END of the bench, GUARDING the water bottles, and TACKLING anyone who gets too close to them.

Get a clue kid. You're a joke!!!

And what do you know? All you've done in every post on this thread is take a jab at the OVC because of their record and try to belittle me.
Do you know me personally? If so, do tell how I've offended you because this above rant of yours deserves some sort of explanation.

What does the OVC's non-conference record have to do with CG? CG is 3-1 and 5th in their region. The thread is CG/Minford, not SOCII v. OVC.

Coal Grove was not overhyped. They ARE better than they've been for a long time. Last year at this time they were 1-3, now they're 3-1. They lost to a Minford team that returns 17 seniors from last year's playoff team. Big deal. Coal Grove can still have a great year and make the playoffs.

My comments aren't "very one-sided" and I do acknowledge that I'm from Coal Grove. Look at my avatar for crying out loud. If I talk up a team, I'll back up what I say with facts. I always try to dig up stats, articles, or whatever for any prediction or analysis I give on here. I've picked against Coal Grove on here plenty of times. Ask Buckeyeshotsphoto or 2_Trap4ever how "unbiased" I can be.

How have I paraded them around? I haven't made them out to be anything more than what they are: a very talented group of kids that have the potential to win the OVC outright and make the playoffs. I've backed up everything I've said with facts. And again, this is a CG/Minford thread, not an OVC/SOC thread.

Are they an Ironton or a Wheelersburg or a Logan? No - and I haven't made them out to be. They are the most talented CG team to come through the high school in a long while. They have the potential to do something a CG football team hasn't done since 1996: make the playoffs.

Why don't you take some of your own advice: If you don't like what you read on here, don't read it. But don't try to insult or degrade me just because you don't think I know what I'm talking about. Other people on here seem to agree with me on many things.
It sounds like you have an issue with me personally. Why not just get it off your chest? Again, you're just putting on a big rant now.

I believe I already got it off my chest.

This is the part where I agree to disagree and stop posting on this subject with you.

Good luck to your Hornets the rest of the way. If I get the chance to see them again, I'm sure I'll enjoy it just as much as I have in the past.

wow.. . . I leave the area for a few weeks, come back, and what do the friends and relatives from the "big" grove inform me that they lost another game due to coaching. who'da thunk it, right?
it's really sad, but until the grovers wake up and smell the coffee, things won't get better.
