I don't know anything about Villa Angela-St Joseph but after what I saw from the Burg tonight they better look out because the Pirates are for real.

Unless Desmond Howard, Elvis Grbac and Clark Kellogg are still playing for VASJ the Burg wins.

Very hard game to predict, but one of the most intriguing match-up the Burg has had in some time. VASJ plays in the North Coast Catholic League and plays some Division I schools in their independent schedule. Their school enrollment continues to go down (D 5) because of their location which is in a rough section of E. Cleveland, but many of their athletes are from the inner city and are going to the school their through the state voucher program.

As for the football team, they hung in their with always tough Lake Catholic for the first quarter and a half, (Lake Catholic defeated D. 5 state champ Y-town Ursaline pretty handily this week). They also defeated University Heights (D 3) in overtime last week scoring 34 points on them. They play at D 1 Shaker Heights today whom is down and VASJ has a shot at beating. Hopefully VASJ can win against Shaker, and if the Burg can beat VASJ, they can get a lot of computer points to solidify a good seed come playoff time.

Here is a scouting report I got from the Cleveland Plain Dealer this past August on VASJ. I know Libertini has thrown for several yards based on box scores from the newspaper with Tucker and Johnson being his targets.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph

Last year: 5-5, 4-1.

Coach: John Storey (starting second stint as VASJ's coach; went 10-20 from 1991-93).

Key players: Jamal Chatman, DT/DE/OT, Sr., 6-3, 240; Kyle Johnson, WR/DB, Sr., 5-11, 170; Darryl Jones, QB/DB, Jr., 6-4, 205; Kevin Koehl, OL/DL, Jr., 6-3, 240; Anthony Libertini, QB/WR/DB/LB, Sr., 6-2, 180; Tony Rini, DT/OT, Sr., 6-3, 245; Kawmae Sawyer, TE/LB, Jr., 6-1, 195; Ronnel Spates, RB/WR/DB, Sr., 5-9, 165; Phil Tucker, WR/DB, Sr., 6-4, 185.

Scout report

Strengths: Quarterbacks Libertini and Jones are skilled, as are the Vikings' receivers.

Concerns: Vikings need running backs, and the offensive and defensive lines have several young starters. VASJ lost 22 seniors from last season.

Just from looking at VASJ scores last year and so far this year, it looks like they do not play much defence, but can put some points on the board.

I am taking Burg 42-28

I am super impressed with burg this year they will win the S.O.C then make a playoff run until they run into a buzzsaw which happens every year for teams down here.....but anyhow i'll take VA-SJ 28-7 over burg, even though burg is a very good team when you get into to these larger schools from up north The SOC, SVC, and most of the SEOAL just cannot compete with these larger, faster, and more athletic kids.

From my friends in Cleveland, VASJ is a Basketball school not a football school and this wont be close.
I hope he's right. But Burg best learn how to throw the ball if they are going anywhere come playoff time!
Running is great and is working now, but it didnt against Ironton and it won't once they hit another team than can stop the run game. Then what do u have? another early dep. in the playoffs.

Burg 35- VASJ 10

I will go with my Pirates in this one by a couple TD's. The way we are playing right now we can't be stopped. I wish we could have played Ironton the way we played Portsmouth last night! For the Villa Angela St Joseph fans have a safe trip to the game. 8)

GO PIRATES!!!!!!

Good luck to the Pirates. I'm sure VASJ will be a very fast team and will be a good opponent for the Burg before heading into SOC play in week #6.

Cause ur so dang adorable from what Burg_Grad_ 77 says!! LOL!! And u always take care to think of the team comin all this way to play the Burg! Enuff said. I did mess up on ur Calpreps score, but i really think Burgs defense will be more disciplined but we cant match their speed. We need to string it out on defense better than we have and look out for the Spates kid. he is quick and shifty and has long runs for td.
