But, the more I thought about it the more I understood. That's all they have. For them beating one of the storied programs in Ohio high school football history is the only success they have ever had. For them that validates them as a program. To beat a program that has played in more state championship games(8) than they have playoff appearances(7) somehow lets them rise above the fact they've always had a mediocre big school program. Despite the fact these Ironton teams have not been as strong as they have been in the past, and the fact they have a rapidly shrinking enrollment, you take those victories and be proud, heck get you a trophy made if it makes you feel better about the fact you will never have the success Ironton has had.

Ironton has always been a little different. We don't consider league championships or a good regular season a success. We don't hang banners for league titles(which is good because we wouldn't really have room with all the SEOAL and OKAC titles we have won in the past) and our kids don't get t-shirts and brag about being SEOAL champs. For Ironton and Coach Lutz playing the regular season has always been about getting ready for the playoffs. So if playing a bigger, "better" team like Logan and possibly losing makes us better, so be it. I'm sure someone is going to get on here and say where has your success been lately. My only response will be, "When was yours ever?"

Hear are my random thoughts....................................... It's okay that you don't care about league championships because well you haven't won any this time around. correct me if I am wrong but don't your 8 state championship games get you crap this year? It's been almost 30 years since Nelsonville-York has won a state title so am I right to assume that the reason we haven't won another is because we haven't been living in the past? We all know that Ironton used to kick the crap out of Logan 30 years ago, but I am trying to figure out how that makes you guys better than Logan now! You guys all brag about all your past success but when was the last time you won a state title? I have a lot of respect for the Ironton program as a hole but dear god Please quit living in the past!!!!!!! Those are just me random thoughts. :122245

At no point in my post, at least that I can see, did I say Ironton was better than Logan right now. Let me read it again.....nope. I wasn't bragging about past success, I stated MY OPINION on the Logan and Ironton football program's views on league titles and regular season success. Heck, I can't lie about what Ironton has done against Logan lately, it's a fact. My original post wast directed at Logan posters who get on threads just to say how they are going to kill Ironton this year when the game is two or more weeks away at the time. I know some Ironton posters do that and are just as ridiculous. This Ironton team, although they seem very focused and team driven, isn't close to what the teams were in the past. I can admit that without even really having to think about it. I was just at the Russell game talking with some people about how excited everyone seemed about the season because we beat Wheelersburg. The only thing I said was "Let's get through Logan and see where we stand before we get too excited." So yes, I do have respect for Logan this year. Look through any post I have made on here and you will never find me saying how we will destroy Logan or even beat Logan because I truly don't know. To be honest I'm worried about Ashland this week.

I've been on this site for quite some time but rarely do I post. I can also say that I am a Logan fan (with the Ironton game as the only exception), a Wheelersburg fan, a Coal Grove fan, a Chesapeake fan, a Rock Hill fan and a fan of every team in southern Ohio. The smack talking between Ironton and Logan is entertaining to say the least but to degrade either team is pathetic. Logan has been the class of the SEOAL since we joined back up and may well be the class this year. They have an outstanding quarterback and group of receivers that can give you fits. But this Ironton team is a little different from those you've seen in the past few years. The big difference I see is that these kids want badly to win every week. They play team ball. There are no superstars, just a strong line, a great group of backs and a stifling defense. I look forward to a great game with Ashland before we even start talking about Logan week. Let Logan take care of their business this week and we'll take care of ours. Then we'll talk Ironton/Logan.

Maybe you should go back to Page 1 and reread Loco's post...IT'S ALL IN FUN...a few of the Ironton posters know what I think about the Ironton program...i have made no secret of it. Like you said..it's SMACK TALK..deal with it. Where did I EVER degrade the team? I have said they were going to get beat by Logan...that is in no way shape or form degrading this year's Ironton team.

Logan fans get on here and talk about beating Ironton b/c we are pumped about the game. Who cares that it's not this week. That means you can't talk about it? When we talk about this years game and then you throw in 'Logan hasn't won a state but Ironton has...30 years ago'..of course you're gonna get some fans responding. What do you think will happen? You go ahead any worry about Ashland this week...and us Chieftain fans will sit here and worry about Gallia...and talk about Ironton...I guess we just know how to multitask.

You pretty much just proved my initial post about Logan fans hanging the success of a season on whether or not they beat Ironton. :122245 Never said you couldn't talk about it, but is it neccessary to get on an Ironton-Gallia thread and talk about Logan-Ironton? Didn't say it was you but it did happen. I think I'm doing a decent job of multitasking myself responding to the mutliple responses I got to my "smack talk" ;-)

Or it just proves Ironton has more posters than anyone else we play.

Whats the fun in getting excited for the Zanesville game considering they don't have anyone who actively posts on here? What is there going to be to talk about?

During Lancaster week, you have a bunch of Logan fans talking, but no Lancaster people. Same for Pickerington North.

The other SEOAL teams know that it would be a major upset to beat Logan. The only team in the league that believes they are on even footing with Logan is Ironton. That's what makes the game interesting.

Logan's season is only defined by Ironton if we lose.

If Logan goes 10-0 again, there is NO doubt that Zanesville, Lancaster, and Pickerington North will be much bigger wins with much more meaning than beating the Tigers.

Carmen,

I can not say this enough. I have posted the last two years that beating the Ironton team has become routine and expected by Chieftain fans.

The fun part is the posters. They are the history buffs. They are the one's stuck in the 1900's. Ironton posters are fun to have on here so there are things to mention.

Do not flatter your self. The ironton game is not as measurement of success for the Chiefs in 2009. In fact as i have mentioned several times if the Tigers make the first team play into the fourth quarter they will be able to claim a moral victory and escape with their pride in tact.

The big game for Logan is D-1 Lancaster followed by D-1 Pickerington North. Logan has proven the last two years that size of school is not what decides putcomes of games.

Locos and i were posting at the same time. Looks like we are close to the same page. Imagine that.

Ironton has always played more teams that are bigger than them each season. This season alone Ironton plays 6 Teams in bigger Divisions.

3-D2-----Logan (3-0), Warren (3-0), Ashland (4-0)
3-D3-----Jackson (3-0), Gallia Acadamy (0-3), Chillicothe (1-2)
2-D4-----Portsmouth (2-1), Russell (2-2)
2-D5-----Wheelersburg (2-1), Nelsonville-York (3-0)

Not downing in any way OHBuckeye1 but you must remember at this point Ironton has only beaten ONE of those 6 so far (Gallia academy 0-3 ) and lord knows nobody counts those Kentucky teams as any competition. :)

      If you believe that..you are SADLY mistaken! But why would I care what other Logan posters do or say on a Ironton/Gallia thread? I mean...really...was Ironton pumped up about the Gallia game? Did they think it was going to be close? Maybe it came to that b/c there isn't reason enough to talk about Ironton vs Gallia maybe? But I don't care anyways..b/c I wasn't one of them that did it. As far as I recall. LOL

oh,

You get not credit as prviously mentioned for playing weak Ky teams I do not care what size they are.

You get no credit for playing larger schools in your league. You have no choice but to play league games.

Of course since ironton did not win the league it is now time to quit again and go back to the porch. However should you play some larger Ohio schools next year You will get points for that. And let's face most school in Ohio are larger than Itown.

I bet this (4-0) Ashland,KY team could compete with just about all of the teams in the SEOAL this year........You can count them or not.

THIS YEAR, maybe, but what is the Ironton-Ashland record over the last 20 years?
19-1 maybe ?? You call that competition??

I like the way SEOPS brings fans together. Now I have an Ironton guy defending Ashland. It seems like only yesterday it was "just Ashland".

Oh wait that was yesterday.

Apples and oranges Carman. I'm talking about a team on THIS YEARS schedule.

There are a few Ohio river schools that go pretty far down into Ky. to play Ky. teams (Belfry, Johnson County, etc. ) and those KY teams may come to Ohio to play a home and home, but RARELY do you see Ky teams venture far up into Ohio voluntarily to play teams. Wonder why that is ?

I would assume it's for the same reason that no team from the SEOAL would want to venture down to Louisville to play Trinity or St. Xavier??? Two different levels of football.

Nice selective quoting, I like it! :122245 The bottome line is Ironton plays every decent size school in it's area, at least the ones that will play. Teams like Ironton, Wheelersburg, etc., need to travel across the river because of geographic reasons. Do you also disagree with eastern and western border schools playing teams from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Indiana? We have to travel a good distance for our conference games. We aren't a big school with deep pockets, what should we do? Tell us who else we are supposed to play non-conference? The bottom line is if you want to talk about teams Ironton is playing "this year", I have no doubt Ashland would do pretty well in the SEOAL this year.
