Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
Im tired of hearing that past history has no part in the discussion. You know, "that was 20 years ago. What have you done lately." Well, I have come to the conclusion that this mindset comes from a fan base who has no real history. Now before you hit the reply button and start spewing back, read the entire posting. Today, Logan has a very good coach and a very good high school football team. There is no doubt, they are a top the SEOAL. However, when you come to Ironton next week and you sit down on the visitor side, you will notice the banners that wave on the stadium. There are no SEOAL title banners. Now, that is no slight to the SEOAL, it's just over the course of the past 40 years, Ironton has come to expect greater things from their football program. That happens when you have won 2 state titles and appeared in 8 finals overall.
When you say that "all Ironton fans want to talk about is their history and their past," it's because we have one. For those like Logan that have no real playoff success, I can see why you dont want to hear about others success. Logan does very well for what they are, they are a division 2 football program that have dominated a much smaller league for about 10 years. that's it, that's their history. When stacked up against other Division 2 schools, the other schools will say, " we quit playing teams like Ironton, 10 years ago."
Logan fans on this forum talk alot of smack. Thats ok, so do Ironton fans. except Ironton fans can talk about November and december games and Logan fans can't. Regarding winning SEOAL titles, they are great to win. However, thats not the goal at a school where winning it all has been attained.
Carrots and Peas are great when you are 3. However, once you've eaten steak, the peas and carrots just dont do it anymore.

85,
As usual you have missed the boat. heck you could not even have an original thought for your posting title.
No one in Logan has ever denied the Tigers their history. But no where in the posting world is the history of the team drug in front of posters on a regular basis like ironton. Other teams in the SEOPS area have won the state. It is not the only thing they post about. Ironton guys can hardly breathe without bringing up the 1900's.
As for Logan's history. I am embarrassed for you for saying Logan has no history. If you were a student of southern ohio football you would know logan has played the game along time and done quite well. If Locos decides to answer this post you will plenty of history to discover. BTW, ironton posters act like football history began in 1970. There was alot of football before that.

Seems to me both teams could use a lesson in how to win in a sportsman like manner.
Re: Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
85, excellent post. You were 100% right. Ironton has a lot of haters from in their own backyard (places like Coal Grove and Rock Hill), and from up north in places like Logan.
Every time I drive by the "Tank", I get chill bumps. Ironton has more football tradition and lore than any other team south of 70 and east of 23 by far.
Do I get agitated by some of the Ironton posters on here? Absolutely. The arrogance displayed by a handful of Tiger fans on here just straight-up blows my mind at times, but I understand that it will come anytime you've got a tradition like I-town's. Tiger football is good for the entire and deep down inside, everyone in Lawrence Co. wants to see it continue to be something special.
Logan fans have said on this very site that they play for SEOAL Championships, not playoffs. When you're a fan of a conference like the OVC as I am, you get tired of that attitude real quick. The SEOAL is insignificant on a state-wide level and it's really a flat-out joke. From the way the membership is declining with the departure of such teams as Athens, Ironton, and Gallia Academy, it looks like people from all over the area are finally waking up and realizing how big of a joke the conference really is.
2old, you keep telling Ironton fans that they're spending too much time reliving the 1900s yet then you come back and say "there was a lot of football before that (1970s)". Too funny.
I have no dog in the fight. I'm just making an observation. Good luck to both teams.

Let's see Chillicothe won the State in BB Logan Jackson Gallipolis Ironton are all contesders for playoffs every year??
Wow ,talk about off base? You!

Fuzz,
i would advise advil and see a doc for those chills you get. Ironton has won nothing since the 1900's maybe that will answer your history question.

First off..I've done replied to 85's thoughts on a few other reply's...I don't need to repeat the same thing on here...so I won't bother..but as for playing for SEOAL Championships. You are WRONG. Sure..there is no denying our lack of success in the playoffs...but Logan plays for the SEOAL Championship b/c that comes FIRST! You have to win that to get to the playoffs. In D2...if we can't at least win the SEOAL..we have no business even being in the playoffs to being with...so THAT'S why it 'appears' that the SEOAL is all we care about. As for the conference being a joke..I won't argue with you there. Great history..great tradition..but the competition just is not there. I'm not boasting up Logan..but in the SEOAL..seems like everyone just fights for 2nd or 3rd place. I've said many times I wish Logan could get out of the SEOAL. But there's no other realistic options besides that. IMO..that's why we have the lack of success in the playoffs..our schedule just does not allow the Chiefs any real competition to prepare them.

Stick to something you know. That's not the SEOAL.
First off, Logan fans have always maintained that winning the SEOAL is part of a great season. Logan's goals are the same every season: Win the SEOAL, Go 10-0, and Win a State Championship.
You can't go 10-0 w/o winning the SEOAL.
Making your ONLY goal "winning the state championship" is unfair to your kids, coaches, and fans. Apparently Ironton has only had 2 successful teams in school history by that logic. I think it would be silly to say that all the Ironton state runner-up teams (and the '78 team that didn't make the playoffs) didn't meet any goals b/c they failed to win a state title.
Also, Gallipolis hasn't left this league and doesn't plan to. Athens, like Meigs, Wellston, and Nelsonville before left once they were no longer competitive. It made the conference better.
As for Ironton and Zanesville, neither one never wanted to join in the beginning.

This is buildup TO the game! After the game..everyone..ok..well most..will be on here congratulating the winner and wishing them luck the rest of the way. It has nothing to do with being a sportsman...it's called smack talk! Fans do that before the game! I guess your not allowed to say that your team is gonna beat your team anymore without you being called 'unsportsmanlike'? Get over it.

We're talking about football bobcat. This is a football forum. Ironton is leaving the conference. Jackson is not a serious contender for a state championship and Gallia might not win a game all year. And when they do make the playoffs, they've usually made a first-round exit, at least recently. Logan has never made it past the 2nd round. You can talk about the lack of competion in the SEOAL or SE Ohio, but that's what a non-conference schedule is for. Now to Logan's credit, they've played a pretty tough schedule so far this season.
If the competition isn't tough enough in the SEOAL, maybe Logan should just go indie like Ironton? That way they could schedule tougher teams and maybe build the program into something special on a state-wide level instead of just a SE Ohio level.

Once again you show your lack of knowledge when it comes to Logan and the SEOAL.
Logan was a regional finalist in 2000 in Division 1 (you know, with the REAL football powers). They defeated Westerville South 53-20 and Pickerington (before the split) 28-26 before falling to eventual state champion Upper Arlington.
Going independent won't make Logan's or Ironton's schedule stronger. Ironton will schedule more out of state and Canadian teams that RACK up computer points, but provide no real competition.

Re: Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
If anyone is curious (and desires truth by fact) you can note that Ironton Football Dot Com now has it's 'All School's Playoff Records' updated for this year that I just uploaded last night. This list, includes every school in the state (and it's more accurate than OHSAA's) and each school's playoff appearances by year and whether they finished 1st or 2nd that year. I would like to thank our good Fighting Tiger fan and friend, Steven Ginsburg, for taking time out of his busy life (his busy life, is a joke between us) to research and update this list for us. It's the 4th time he has done so and we appreciate that a bunch!

One regional final. Cool.
Ironton's schedule can't get much more paper-weight than it is in the SEOAL. They play oft-mediocre to just straight-up bad DII and DIII teams (Gallia, Warren, Marietta, Jackson, etc) that usually win 3-6 games (usually against smaller teams) and rack up points that way. Nelsonville-York and Wheelersburg are two D5 teams on Ironton's schedule that would give the Tigers a better game than most teams in the SEOAL. Those games, plus the Logan game and possibly the Ashland game this week are the best preparations Ironton will get for their playoff run.

As for going Indie..get real...that couldn't happen and keep it within' reasonable travel. Logan doesn't have the luxury of being on the border of Ohio/Kentucky..we can't schedule all those tough Kentucky teams to fill up our schedule. And Logan has always played a tough non conference schedule..but when you do that the first 3 weeks..and then you have 7 weeks off..sorry..that doesn't do anything for you.

I went through this entire list and could find only EIGHT schools with 20 or more playoff seasons and that includes TONS of big name "powerhouses" that are on the list. ( I didn't count how many schools there are total on the list)
They were:
St. Iggy
Steubenville
Ironton
Wheelersburg
Moeller
Mooney
Mogadore
And the list was topped by NEWARK CATHOLIC with 30 appearances.
Disclaimer.. I MAY have missed one or two..... but then who knows if IF.com is TOTALLY accurate either.
Re: Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
If this topic didn't mention Ironton and rather just challenged Logan to not "settle" for domination of a league this season and focus on a bigger prize, like the Division 2 state title, would there be any disagreement? I doubt it! The point of all this is to say, take your program to the next level! I would love to see Logan go 14-1 and win the state title and Mr. Angle add Mr. Football to his hardware collection, but I guess that wouldn't be controversial and get any discussion going would it? Good luck to the Chiefs in adding some postseason success to your mantle this year!
