To the best of my knowledge, those 8 teams are indeed the only ones with 20 or more playoff appearances, although some others are close. I didn't count either, but I think there are over 500 teams that have been in the playoffs at least once (if anyone knows for sure, please post!).TheMalteseFalcon wrote:...
I went through this entire list and could find only EIGHT schools with 20 or more playoff seasons and that includes TONS of big name "powerhouses" that are on the list. ( I didn't count how many schools there are total on the list)
They were:
St. Iggy
Steubenville
Ironton
Wheelersburg
Moeller
Mooney
Mogadore
And the list was topped by NEWARK CATHOLIC with 30 appearances.
Disclaimer.. I MAY have missed one or two..... but then who knows if IF.com is TOTALLY accurate either.

Nah...It's just Ironton! Been reading your Ashland thread

Wrong..it's the climax of our season according to Ironton.

That's delusional thinking, but Logan will come out in droves for the Ironton game the same way they did at Lancaster and Hamilton Twp. (where they also out drew the home team) and they'll have overflow crowds at Gallipolis and Warren as well.
The fact is that although the SEOAL may have hurt Ironton's gates, it is as much to do with their own fans. Most Tiger fans have decided to stay home instead of going to the Tank or traveling to watch the orange and black. Their own fans have complained about the lack of support the last few seasons.

YOU ALL STILL only made it to the playoffs ONE TIME in the decade of the 90's! ONE TIME! Ironton went there 8 times and had 2 second place finishes. It was you who chose to claim that your new coach showed up in 1990 and this would have made so much difference. Logan went 1 time, 1997, that's it!
As far as Ironton, good night, there no excuse for you not defeating the Tigers, Ironton is just barely a D4 team this year, had it not been for some restructure, Ironton would have been D5 this year! Logan benefitted the other way and dropped to D2.

Once again..we say we are going to beat Ironton..so we are being classless? Ok. Call it what you want. I call it 'all in fun'..we give just as much as we take. If you think Logan is not classy...maybe you should go through and read some Ironton posters comments as well? I, for one, don't take it personal..I enjoy it..it's a great part of this sport! We all know that come 11:00 that night..nobody will be making excuses..no matter WHAT happens. We will congratulate Ironton..most of us..as Ironton posters will congratulate us..most of them..and then Saturday morning..the smack talk about next years game will begin...oh..wait..forget that last part.

You still can't get it right.
Logan didn't make the playoffs in '97, it was '99.
I always know when I've out-argued someone when they change the subject. First you want to point out that Ashland is great competition, when you're own fans say "It's just Ashland" - Next, you want to point out that our fans don't travel. When it's pointed out that that is not correct, you want to move on to playoff records.
If Logan feasted on inferior out of state opponents for a decade (most years you played more Kentucky and W. Virginia teams than you did Ohio), then we could have made the playoffs every year as well.
And to top it all off, you have to pull out the size card at the end of the day. This from a school that has benefited from transfers for the last 30 years.
You can't say "we'll play anyone, anytime, anywhere" and then say "well, we should have lost, you're bigger!"

Re: Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
oops..sorry, when Logan made the playoffs one single time in the 90's..it was in 1999, not 97! Thank you and I stand corrected..
Well you should win..your players only have to go 1 way, you wear down schools that are dramatically smaller than you..
I think it's like Krammer told Jerry, 'Jerry, it's not about size, it's about the skill level' You offer a very similar argument..it's so invalid!

Re: Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
How about you just forget about size, skill, whatever excuse you wanna use? Fact is..after this year..you can pencil in an extra Kentucky team..get some points..and you won't have to worry about losing to Logan again.

Again, I think you'll find several Logan players starting both offense and defense.

8 Offensive starters also start on defense. That doesn't even include guys like Sigler and Grahm who start on defense and also rotate at receiver.
But whatever makes everyone feel better.
What's funny is, Ironton fans are martyrs about HOW BIG Logan is, yet when Logan plays a team like Pickerington North or Lancaster, and the numbers are similarly against us, we just go play football and don't use it as an excuse.
And those to schools have and will whip our butts more than we beat them (assuming we keep North on the schedule long term).
Re: Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
Kantucky,
Once again will you try to keep this conversation in this century. Also please let us know when Ironton has beat Logan in the last 20 years. Or for that matter 18 years since these players can not be over 18 years old.
i see the guys have pretty well beaten you up but let say just one more thing. You say those KY teams woudl give Logan a game. Maybe logan should play them because irotnon has been run out of Chieftain stadiums for two years. The first string has yet to break a sweat. Now the JV's seem to think that ironton's first team is at least as good as th logan freshmen.
Ironton no longer defines anything but another Chieftain Victory.
Ironton is quitting and looking for easier teams to play. Good luck i hope you find teams you can defeat.

Re: Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
Blah, blah, blah, blah............
I'm going to add my two cents in here on a couple of things.
Size: Back in 2000 when Logan went to the regional final, did Logan fans ever complain about Upper Arlington being larger and thats how they beat us. Nope. In the past decade when Logan dropped games like New Lexington and Nelsonville-York did you once hear anyone from Logan say, "Man, I'm scared of those big city schools and all of those boys." Nope, because we might get our butts handed to us, we might get embarrassed but we know that somewhere along the way we didn't want it enough or we made the wrong calls/adjustments. My senior year we got the crap kicked out of us by Gahanna Lincoln 48-0 (or something close to this) and not once did we say it was size related. Logan is at a loss against some of the other SE Ohio schools because......***NOW THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE***NOT AN EXCUSE***.......Logan's school district draws from an entire county and some students from a couple of surrounding counties. How many schools are in Lawerence County? How many schools are in Athens County? And I could go on and on........***REPEATING NOT AN EXCUSE***NOT AN EXCUSE*** I say this because Logan is burdened into their district by the amount of students (boys mainly since this is football) that they do not have control over. Maybe we could bring back the Starr Township Warriors, the Laurelville Whatevers, and so on and so on..........and then we could be smaller than Ironton and start complaining about the size difference..................
Scheduling: As stated earlier, Logan would have a much tougher time scheduling as an independent than in a league..........any league for that matter. Logan is landlocked. Where do they head? The OCC, they wouldn't take a school in this far out of Columbus. The OCC is my only answer because if we go there, people won't complain about us beating up on them. Maybe all they would say about us is that we are a cakewalk team for them as well.
There.......now you can all jump on this Logan poster and tear my head off as well.

Re: Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
As far as Ironton's history......congratulations. A lot of time, effort, blood, sweat and tears went into those state championships and state runnerups. This next sentence goes out to Logan, Ironton and whoever else.......
How does history help you?
Besides throwing it out there to get your friends (because that's what we all are) fired up and posting things like "random thoughts about Logan poster" etc, etc........
Unless you know of a way to walk all of those players or a combination of them back out onto the field to play, I don't see a point in it.
Now I am just as proud of the numerous Logan SEOAL championships and playoff appearances as any other person out here who bleeds purple and I know Ironton fans are the same about their State championships, State runnerups, and even their SEOAL championships.
But history is just that history..........this Friday is the future and all we need to be worried about is Gallia Academy. (Or Ashland). (Or whoever else).

Re: Random thoughts on Logan fans who post here
These comments from tigger fans about packing the stands have me confused. I have read over & over the posts from Ironton fans over the years "pleading for folks from IRONTON" to support the team and fill the stands. Happened over the past few years. Then, I read with laughter as their fans berate other tigger fans for "leaving early" in games they don't do well in ( Logan ? ). And finally, have read over the past few years how badly the tigger fans turn-out for games at Zanesville, Logan or Marietta. Seems if you are going to compalin about the SEOAL not traveling well to Itown, you have to take the blame for contributing to that demise because you don't travel well. . And no, I don't want to hear your usual crap reasons that many of your fans used ( too expensive to travel, eat, buy a ticket, etc). Seems other towns fans may also have some money problems.
I'll allow that the tiggers aren't what they used to be, don't win any titles any more and struggle to get fan support at games, home or away. I prefer that you slink away with your ball in quitting the league silently. We all know how hypocrites are. And read & see how many you have in your fan ranks. Go sit in the corner and talk by yourself about long lost days of a far off yesterday.
No one cares.

Well it just sounds to me like logan is upset that ironton is leaving the SEOAL witch dosnt make since.Logan posters say they like to play good teams to prepare for playoffs but then turn around and talk about how ironton is no challenge for them. You would think logan would want them gone.unless logan just likes to play games they know they can win
