You know I really couldn't understand the vitriol of this rivalry, not having experienced it until now. I know Ironton has a proud and glorious history. I couldn't understand why their fans would begrudge Logan's success. Until it finally dawned on me that Ironton, having dominated Logan head-to-head for so many years just couldn't come to grips with the fact those days are over.....

Trivia questions: How many teams on Ironton's schedule have more than 500 wins all-time in its school history? Of all the teams that Ironton has on it's schedule this season, who has the most school victories all-time?

GO TIGERS!!!

gotigers -

By my count it looks like 5 teams are over the 500 win mark on Ironton's schedule.

In order: (I believe these are all entering 2009)

Ashland - 605 wins
Jackson - 543 wins
Portsmouth - 533 wins
Russell - 531 wins
Logan - 525 wins

Oh,

I would say your resource has bad info. Locos knows what he is talking about.

The nice thing is next week you will see all of Logan you want. Logan will be enjoying win # 527 and ironton win total will stall as the Tigers play a real football team.

I'd reconsider my source then. From 1912-2008 that is Logan's win total. I've gone back myself and verified every win with some sort of documentation.

I asked the question because everyone is so quick to point out how "weak" Ironton's schedule is and beating up on those poor little KY schools which are a 5 minute drive for us. The KY schools we play have won state titles (*disclaimer: I do realize those were in KY  ), so by the numbers, Ironton seems to schedule consistent winners. Suprisingly suspicious absence from the list is Wheelersburg, which everyone points to as a quality opponent. Let me once again state that I hope Logan goes 14-1 and wins the Division 2 state title and ends the discussion of not having any playoff success. I also hope Pat Angle wins Mr. Football, because I think he is a special player! There I said it again!

GO TIGERS!!!

Maybe because Wheelersburg has only been playing about half as long as those teams listed.
Lutz must consider them a quality opponent or he wouldn't have PERSONALLY scouted them at their Jackson scrimmage. :)

"PERSONALLY" scoutting an opponent. Is that an OHSAA rules violation?

Maybe you need to let the Burg coach know that is not the case. it is obvious the scoutting was not good in week one for the Pirates

I'm not doubting Logans wins at all, I know Loganlocos knows his stuff. I was just wondering why they wasn't on that list, they do a really good job of keeping it updated after each season.

I found Logan on the list and this is what they have.

599th in the country--54th in Ohio--Logan, Oh-(11-1)--502 wins .6099 (502-316-28)

Loganlocos what is Logans overall record 525 wins - losses - ties ???

Maybe I should email that guy who updates the list. He may have old information from before I completed the all-time wins back to 1912 - my old list went back to 1920 I think b/c I was missing '16, '17, '18, and '19.

Logan played football before 1912, but I can't confirm very many games prior to 1912 (the HS published its first yearbooks in 1912).

My comments were not a slam at the Burg. They are one of my favorites after week #1. I said "suprisingly absent" because I would have thought they would be on there. Also, Lutz, considers everyone on the schedule a quality opponent. So it does not surprise me that he wanted to see the Pirates for himself, since the Tigers did not have a scrimmage.

GO TIGERS!!!

I don't know if it is a violation or not but you have to admit it is certainly UNUSUAL for him to be there. After TWO losses in a row he was probably sweating this one.
I have seen Ironton scouts at scrimmages before when they didn't have a scrimmage that day and Lutz was NEVER with them.

How can you scout Ironton in scrimmages when they don't have any? Well, at least I heard they dragged him outside this year to practice. Another indication he was sweating this one maybe ??????

True story:
A couple of years ago Wheelersburg was scrimmaging Huntington W. Va. at home and I went to it. Not by design at all but I just happened to have on a WVU hat and a Huntington High colored shirt. I saw a couple of Ironton scouts sitting on the visitors side and went over and sat down right next to them. I told them I was in from Huntington visiting my sister and wasn't a footballer at all but heard that Huntington was scrimmaging there that day and I got bored and just came over to watch them.
I asked them what they were doing and what they were writing and they said "We play this team next week and we are scouting them". I said "Really? What does that mean?" They proceeded to show me everything they were writing down and why. I said "Gosh, that is really interesting" and at the end of the scrimmage and a very informative conversation we shook hands and parted.
Somewhere on this site are pictures of that scrimmage and one of them shows me sitting right next to those nice scouts.
Of course being the good sportsman I am, I never even mentioned this incident to Coach Lewis.
