Im NOT saying Ironton WILL make a run because it is only Week 5 and a lot of things can happen, but Im NOT saying they WONT either.
Usually the D4 state champion could beat almost anyone in Division II except maybe the top few teams. Unless Logan advances to the Final 4, Ironton better beat Logan or I doubt they'll win a state championship.
Based on history, when is the last time SE Ohio had 2 teams in one season that could compete for a state title? And THEN, for both those teams to come from one league?
If Logan can't advance in the postseason, then Ironton has to beat them to have a shot to win the title. That's just my belief.
The best D4 programs beat mediocre D2 teams. If Logan beats Ironton, 1 of 2 things has to be true: The Tigers aren't GREAT, or Logan is better than mediocre.

Ok..so if you understand that..then why all the constant trying to demoralize Logan b/c they want to win the league title? Ironton posters think that's all Logan cares about..when we have said MANY times what we care about. First league, then playoffs, then state. We play one week at a time. No sense in worrying about a State Championship game when we have to worry about winning the league title before that.

I hope you're right about that. Problem is, have you seen region 7? it is my opinion the winner of the region might be the best team in the state, whoever comes out of it. I hope we do go deep and make it out of the region. However, Louisville might be able to compete for the D I title this year. If Logan vs. Louisville happens, that will be the game of the year.

Re: Week 5 Logan @ Ironton
Ironton won a few games easily, so they are no cupcake for Logan. I still think just Logan blows them out looking at position matchups. just Logan can protect Angle and if he needs to scramble he can. The coaches will be key in this game, Lutz vs. Amyx/Wolfe. Gameplans and adjustments, Lutz will have to find a way to stop just Logan's spread. They don't have a good enough secondary to blitz, so I think Angle will have a big game. Ironton's defense will be hitting hard trying to win after losing to just Ashland. just Logan's defense should be able to key on the run all nite, knowing Ironton has not passed much at all this season. just Logan will win 49-14. just Logan's defense keeps improving the rest of the reg. season, when the weather turns cold the offense will still be hot.
All this crap about D2 vs. D4 is whining by some Ironton posters. In Florida there are small schools that beat big schools all the time. Belle Glades and Pahokee are Ironton's size. They play anyone, and win. If they lose they never say its because they are small. They are often ranked nationally, no matter what size. Lakeland is equal to Ohio D2, and won 2 National titles in USA Today. Miami schools are like Cincy St.X and Cle. St. Iggy. Just ridiculously huge high schools when compared to Logan and until recently Logan was in the same class. The classes need to be proportional for playoffs. In Florida, there are no "leagues", only regions, districts. District champs and runner up get into playoffs, and if there is a tie for runner up, they have a special tie breaker game to get in. No b.s. computer pts., no polls that matter. Its all decided on the field.

I never said Logan was mediocre. I think they are the second best team in their region behind a stud Louisville team. However, I think if Logan squeaks by Ironton because of some good breaks, then that doesnt mean Ironton cant make a run to the Final Four.
I also wouldnt say Ironton is the best D4 team. I wouldnt say Ironton is a top five D4 team. I would say they are top two in R15, but Amanda looks like they are ready for another run. Kettering Alter is the best D4 team and has the luxury of being that unless they lose in the playoffs.

You shouldnt have to worry about winning the league. Logan's goals should, in my opinion, start at being the best team in the state. If you are the best team in the D2, you will win your league if it is made up of D3 and D4 schools. Not knocking Logan for being in the SEOAL with that last statement because in all honesty, they couldnt be in any other league based on their location.

It may not be this year, but it will happen soon enough. Their product on the field keeps getting better and better in my opinion, therefore it has to happen within the next three years. If they dont win their region in the next three to five years, then some changes have to be made.

just Logan--thats pretty good.
Also...I will never say Ironton lost because they are a smaller school. If I ever mention size, it is because if I were a D2 school, it wouldnt be a big deal to beat a D4 school. It should be expected. I dont think a D2 over a D4 should be something you can hang your hat on. If Ironton loses, it will not be because Logan is a bigger school. Itll be because Logan has a better football team.

You know, you're way too rational to be posting from Ironton.

Logan never 'expects' to win any game...that's why they play the game...if they are expected to win..why play it? Anything can happen on any given Friday..if Logan beats Ironton..we will only hang our hat on it with certain posters that give us crap right back. But believe me..if/when we beat Ironton...we won't deem our season a success..our season doesn't depend on what we do against Ironton regardless of what SOME Ironton posters think. It's just another Week 5 game like it is every year.

Re: Week 5 Logan @ Ironton
You can't put too much emphasis on this game; it's only week 5. We all play ten. I'm sure both coaches have the utmost respect for the other but really, this game will not define this season for either team. It had better not! I really want to have to use the rest of my vacation days on Fridays this year following the Chiefs deep into the playoffs. I think this is the team to do it for Logan. These boys just hate to lose!

Re: Week 5 Logan @ Ironton
Just for nuthin, I looked up population #'s and found if's and but's.
If Logan and Ironton were in Florida, they would both be very small. Ironton would appear to be 1A and Logan 2B. Not much difference in size. It looks like Ohio breaks it down to boys/girls, but here its all students.
(# of schools)
the biggest 6A school is 4147 students.
Class 6A (82) – schools with 2363 or more students;
• Class 5A (65) – schools with 2015 to 2362 students;
• Class 4A (70) – schools with 1740 to 2014 students;
• Class 3A (92) – schools with 1391 to 1739 students;
• Class 2A (39) – schools with 1015 to 1390 students;
• Class 2B (51) – schools with 522 to 1014 students;
• Class 1A (55) – schools with 259 to 521 students; and
• Class 1B (58) – schools with 258 or less students.

Ohio Football
Division ....Enrollment.......... Schools
I .........518 and more ...........120
II .........348 to 517 ..............118 (Logan 453 boys)
III ........252 to 347 ..............120
IV ........177 to 251 ..............119 (Ironton 182 boys)
V .........125 to 176 ..............120
VI ........124 and less ............121

I could be wrong, not sure if what I found is the right thing to look up.
It looks like Ohio has a huge group in D1, where Logan was while Ironton was going deep into the playoffs vs. fair competition. Now that Logan is D2 they are going up against fair competition. Look for Logan to remain in the playoff picture for many years to come.

Re: Week 5 Logan @ Ironton
Locos made a good point.
If Ironton has a shot at the state title this year(if they are even that good) , They should beat a majority of teams that make the d2 playoffs. Maybe not all the teams that make regionals, but ones that fall before them.
If they lose to logan, and still make it to state, then you'll see logan in the regional championship or farther, and if they lose before that, that just shows how tough our region is.
Logan by 40, pat and mase go off on your tig's

Logangrad wrote:I would disagree with the first part of that. I think Logan does EXPECT to win every game they play. Why else play if you dont expect to win?? What kind of message is that sending to your team if you dont? What if a coach went into films on Monday and said "Team; I dont expect to win this week" I expect Logan to win every single time they are on the field as a parent, and a fan. I mean like someone once said "You Play to Win the Game!" You play the game to win and I would think every coach everywhere "expects" to win each week.
I guess I should have been a little more clear..I'm meaning ME..as a Logan fan..do I think they can win every game they go into? Of course..do I EXPECT to win every game? Of course not..b/c that's very unlikely..if we lose..we lose..we brush it off..get ready for the next week..and continue to play the game..I never expect the Chiefs to win EVERY game. I do enjoy it..but I don't expect it to happen. Now the team on the other hand..I agree..they should DEFINITELY expect to win every game they play.
