Oh and BTW, I notice today is your Birthday. Did mommy not buy you a cake as child or did the entire NY football team run through as they were stepping on the field to play another mediocre opponent? My goodness what a bitter person you must be though I am sure you will inform us that you are a motivational speaker on the circuit.

Wow that is sad and it tells it all if you're a Meigs fan!

The TVC Ohio looks to be a 3 team race this year. Right now it's up for grabs between Alexander, Athens, and Nelsonville-York with all three of those teams still having to play each other. I think everyone would agree that the TVC is a much more exciting league (and fun league to watch and follow) when there is more than one team at the top dominating. And what can you say about the turnaround in Albany! Coach Arno is doing and outstanding job with the Spartans and he really has his players buying into his system. The same can be said for Coach Adams at Athens as well. Coach Boston and the Buckeyes do it every year so that's no surprise. The other TVC schools (at least some of them) are trying to get to the level of NY and it starts at the bottom with the youth football leagues. Athens has an outstanding youth football system and they play in a very good league as well with many of the current TVC and even MVL schools. Eastern recognized how well this league was run and how it prepared players so they now joined as well. I think if these kids that are now playing in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades stick with it then the TVC will continue to get stronger over the years.

Sounds like a "dynasty" to me. Doesn't it get tiring though, beating the same schools year in and year out within a little ole conference with a 40 mile radius ?. I guess it doesn't but then getting beat by someone from another area that may play a little more physical or quicker in the playoffs doesn't get old for them either.

Sigh. It is no longer an opinion. Rather, it has become obvious that you are a troll. You either hate NY, hate the TVC, hate other people's happiness, are pessimistic, or numbers are your lone gift of intelligence.

It is not as if NY is some large, suburban, and wealthy school with loads of resources that has been placed among the small, poor, and rural schools. The schools inside the TVC are mirror images of each other. They are similar in size, finances, geography, and socioeconomic demographics. This includes NY. Thus, NY has dominated its peers. NY has been highly successful among the schools that most resemble it.

You would have a point if NY was a glaring discrepancy within the conference. It is not. It just runs a better football program.

Enough already. We get it NY is a terrible team. NY has no business showing up for any game scheduled. NY should be ashamed of being a member of the TVC. NY has the most over zealous fans for a mediocre team and program. NY needs to move its entire school and population to a real part of the state to play football. NY has no chance against Athens.

Just so you know, I am now a believer of all that you have written on a high school football forum and am going to present a proclomation to the NY BOE and suggest that the school be shut down, transfer the kids to ABH High School (Anywhere but Here).

So I hope you are happy, I used to love this place but since you've been ranting on about a high school and it's program, I can no longer support said program. If only you'd tell us what school you support like you've told us about those nifty overseas investments, I would know where to suggest those kids transfer to. So which school is it FANOSPORTS? I am curious why you wont tell us.

I don't hide behind a screen name. Many, many years ago I attended schools @ both Meigs (thru 8th grade) then went to high school at Wahama. I've been living in Columbus for over 20 years now . Now, a little about yourself please !!!!!

Buckeyes remain perfect
Nelsonville-York holds off Meigs' rally, 28-20

POMEROY — It may have been raining on the river at Bob Roberts Field in Pomeroy, but it didn’t stop two of the top rushing teams in the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division from piling up yards and scoring points.

The home team Meigs Marauders had the league’s No. 1 rusher after four games, Jeremy Smith, heading into Friday’s game versus Nelsonville-York. The Buckeyes countered with Derek Arnold, who was the No. 2 ground gainer and reigning offensive player of the year.

Both teams showed off their offensive firepower throughout the contest, but it was Nelsonville-York which appeared to have the bigger guns. Arnold ran wild for 207 yards and two scores, while Justin Cunningham piled up 68 yards on the ground with a 20-yard touchdown run to give the visiting Buckeyes a 28-20 win. Nelsonville-York (5-0, 2-0 TVC-Ohio) executed on offense, played consistent football for the entire four quarters and made the big plays on defense to remain undefeated on the season. The Buckeyes amassed 288 yards on the ground, recorded a touchdown during every quarter, and came up with two big defensive plays during the game to help seal the victory.

The contest didn’t end without some late-game fireworks though as the Buckeyes and Marauders (1-4, 0-2 TVC-Ohio) have developed a knack lately for making things interesting. The past two seasons, both teams have finished near or at the top of the TVC-Ohio rankings and had their week five match-up go right down to the wire.

This year’s clash wouldn’t be any different, although the Buckeyes appeared to have control for a majority of the 48 minutes while on the field Friday. Leading 28-12 with under three minutes to go in the game, Nelsonville-York allowed Meigs to march down the field on 12 plays and score on a Smith 1-yard run up the middle.

The Marauders converted the two-point conversion on a Smith off-tackle run to pull within eight points of the Buckeyes with 34 seconds to go. After dominating field position all night and gaining over a hundred more total yards than Meigs, Nelsonville-York still found itself in danger of possibly going into overtime if the Marauders were to recover an onside kick.

The nightmare of losing for the first time all season nearly became reality for the Buckeyes after the maroon and gold pounced on the onside kick and gained possession of the ball with 30 seconds left on the clock.

Starting from its own 46-yard line, Meigs quarterback Jacob Well hit Smith with a 4-yard pass, and then hurried to the line to spike the ball. The Marauders ran three more pass plays from the 50-yard line, but with only 13 seconds to reach the end zone, all three attempts fell incomplete and the Buckeyes would escape with a 28-20 victory.

“You know, they were just moving the ball on us there late,” said Nelsonville-York head coach Dave Boston Jr. when asked about the last few moments of the contest. “I know we had a couple of breakdowns defensively and they made a couple of big plays down the stretch. We also had a few big penalties late, but hey that’s football. We just had to hang on and do the job when it came right down to it and we did.

“We knew it was going to be a hard fought game coming in,” added Boston. “Anytime you travel to Meigs coach Chancey always has his kids ready to play football, and we knew they would be. It basically went right down to the wire again and we were lucky to get out of here with the win tonight.”

Field position played a big part in the outcome, as it does most of the time when two teams who strive to run the football face of against each other. Meigs began the game with an onside kick attempt, which was unsuccessful, giving the Buckeyes possession near their own 40-yard line.

After a 12 play drive, Nelsonville-York punched it across the goal line with an Arnold 3-yard plunge to give the Buckeyes an early 7-0 after Nathan Dean kicked the extra point. The impressive opening drive lasted almost six minutes with Arnold carrying the ball seven times for 46 yards and the score.

After limiting Meigs to one first down on the ensuing possession and forcing a punt, Nelsonville-York lost advantage of good field position after being hit with a 10-yard holding penalty on its first play from scrimmage. The costly infraction proved to be even more important when Isaiah Andrews fumbled after taking a hand-off on the very next play.

On first down with the ball on the Buckeyes 30-yard line, Well hit receiver Caleb Davis in stride for a 20-yard completion, which gave the Marauders a first and goal from the nine-yard line. Smith carried the ball two times and found pay dirt with his second rushing attempt from three yards out with 1:53 to go in the first quarter.

Nelsonville-York took a 14-6 lead into halftime after Cunningham scored on a 20-yard scamper with 3:33 left in the second quarter. Meigs came out of the locker room and put together perhaps its best drive of the game by going 64 yards on 11 plays to set up a Smith 10-yard touchdown run. Both extra point attempts by the Marauders failed after their two scores leaving the Buckeyes with a 14-12 lead in the middle of the third quarter.

On its first possession of the second half, Nelsonville-York needed only six plays to score after another Meigs onside kick attempt faltered. Starting from the Marauders 41-yard line, Arnold rushed the ball for 13 yards on first down for the Buckeyes, Dean then hit Arnold with an eight yard pass, followed by a Cunningham 10-yard run right up the middle. Arnold then carried the ball for eight yards, and capped off the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to put Nelsonville-York up 21-12 late in the third quarter.

Meigs tried to pull back into the game with a lot more time left on the clock after it took the ensuing possession 61 yards down to the Nelsonville-York 10 yard line. On first and goal from the 10, senior Nick Hunter came up with one of the Buckeyes big plays on defense when he recovered a Smith fumble near the goal line.

As opposed to possibly giving up a Marauder touchdown, Nelsonville-York instead took over the ball and put together an impressive 13-play drive capped off by a Cunningham score from 12 yards out. The drive not only took precious time off the clock, it put the Buckeyes up 28-12 with only 3:07 left to play in the game.

“With the rain coming down, we knew we were going to have to run the football a little more than what we planned to,” said Boston. “But we established a good ground game early with our tailback and fullback and we felt they both ran hard all game tonight. Our offensive line did a great job and they seem to get better and better each week. We still have some work to do and have some big games ahead so we’re excited about getting this win tonight.”

lmfao... made my day

the N-Y - Athens game will be a good one, because it is every year, no matter how good each team is, its a big rivalry and claiming that either team has no chance is stupid

N-Y and Athens are in a similar boat this year. "Yeah you won again but who did you beat?" To the naysayers of these two teams let it go. The kids on the field and the fans in the stands can't do a darn thing about the schedule, as much as some posters on here want to rave and brag about scheduling better competition truth is your athletic department could give a hoot less what you think. The AD's do what they feel is best for their school outside the league and that is all you can ask of them. The teams can only play the schools in front of them on friday night. If we win 8 or 9 or 10 games and the computer says we aren't good enough for the playoffs then so be it but, quit talking trash to fans and kids that have no more control of the schedule than they do the weather.

Answer: Vinton County, 0 wins - 5 losses (They are avg. 6.8 ppg and allowing 37.2 ppg). Although they could conceivably have a win over Belpre by then, N-Y will roll in week 10.

Get a life and show the VC kids some respect you a**hole loser!

Blizzard Man, you're one to talk. You are an alum of River Valley and are doing double-talk on the River Valley-Waterford thread and bashing your own high school team.

Get the facts straight. I said nothing wrong about N-Y, the statement was said in defense of N-Y and their kids. I merely said they like Athens have people who aren't giving the kids any credit for playing hard and taking care business on friday nights. Posters keep saying things like "look at their opponents record", all I'm saying is the kids and fans have no control over that and other posters should respect that fact.

Find me one post where I "bashed " RV and quote it please. I am not bashing, just pointing out things that I feel are flaws. That is what this forum is for. This has turned into a sissy whining fest. From now on, I should just say everything is fine at Rv and they should keep doing what they are doing! I gotta say to the NY players, great effort in a truly tough environment. Meigs played as good as they have all year probably and simply got beat by a better team. The D is still just not getting it donee however.
