Just smack talk. I can't get anybody fired up over this game over here in KY. If Greenup doesn't play better than the first four games this won't be close. Sorry to say. :(

It all depends on what mindset CG has coming in. If they come in feeling sorry for themselves because of what happened in the last 5:30 of friday's game, Greenup County will make it uncomfortably close.
If the Hornets come in fired up and want to get the taste out of their mouth, they'll wipe the field with the Musketeers.
Like you said, Greenup has two good RBs and a big line. Carter is the best RB Coal Grove will see for the rest of the season. Unfortunately, they don't have much else.

Also, you touched on something that I don't think can be stated enough: the lack of community support for GC's football team.

Coal Grove has a nice team and will win this one BIG over Greenup County. There is no reason (or excuse) that Coal Grove doesn't win out from here and go 9-1.

Although I think the new coach at Greenup is doing a fine job trying to build the program...It is going to take three or four years for them to see anything from it...This game will get ugly quick....Coal Grove has what it takes...esp...if they open up their offense a little more...don't sit on your lead...Coal Grove big...52-6

If Greenup doesn't fumble and their O line does their job, this should be a descent game. I think Greenup's QB has fumbled two or three times every game. I guessing 10 offsides on the O line last game. Greenup mistakes are things that can be corrected. We will see if GC has learn from their mistakes. If Coach Copley stays he will make this a respectful program. It will just take a few years and more kids getting with the program. Greenup has some more talents, but they are playing Basketball and Baseball. Close to forty kids are just playing BB and Baseball right now in football season.

Sounds like Greenup has the same problem with football that Coal Grove used to have with basketball. Coal Grove is a football school, so all the emphasis and special attention goes to football. What happens? The basketball team goes 0-21 in '06-'07. What happens then? CG goes out and hires a coach who has had success everywhere he's been and is respected area-wide. What happens next? The program becomes respectable, but people are still angry with the coach/administration for a number of reasons, even though he's done a bang-up job and the program is respectable again.
From what I understand, Baseball is the big thing at Greenup. Hopefully the football team can at least become respectable. It's just wrong to let a certain sport (especially a revenue sport) decay to a state of disgrace just because "We're a football school" or "We're a basketball school" of whatever the case may be.

Coal Grove will score at will, they are to powerful, and way to fast, for Greenup County to stop. CG has the speed to score on any play, I see them having a big game this week. They will get it going this week, and should ease through the rest of their games, with out much trouble.

Coal Grove 42
Greenup 12

I just hear that Greenup QB quit tonight. :122246 The backup has a broken finger or thumb. Wow this game may really get ugly fast.

That probably won't hurt them to much this week, with the weather the way it might be, both teams are going to be handing the ball off all night anyway.

Waugh was the back-up, wasn't he?

Didn't Carter play some at QB for Ashland? It really doesn't matter; Greenup doesn't hardly pass at all.

Here's some of the smack being talked on kentucky sites about this game.

It's Coal Grove - the only players they have are the ones Lutz didn't want at Ironton.

When asked who the new QB is,
"Waugh? He's a good athlete, should work out pretty well. Adds another threat offensively. And at least all scouting Coal Grove has done this week won't be of any use!"

know a little about Coal Grove seeing as though they were my school's big rival back in the day. They always seem to put together a big, strong team. On that note, I still don't think that they will be able to stop Greenup's speedy backfield. Greenup needs to come out focused and play their hearts out. No doubt if they play like they did against Raceland, they will for sure come out on top. Minus the silly penalties.

Just read the same thing, Most of those are Coal Grove supporters who have no idea what GC can do on Friday. It was the same people who claimed Ironton would kill Ashland. Buckeye- a useless nut.

The first one is the one that gets me pumped up, the Grove needs to come out Friday night and make Greenup wish they were playing some of those Kentucky schools.

Jordan Hamilton was the backup.

The scouting won't be of any use? Are they going to completely change up their offense just because they have a new QB? Their pass-to-run ratio is probably at least 1 to 9 already without a backup. The QB situation can't do anything but help Coal Grove unless the coach is an extremely bad judge of talent and started two QBs ahead of him.

I'll tell you what: if stereotyping was illegal, there'd be a lot of fans from other schools in jail right now. "Big and strong" is not even in the first three phrases I'd use to describe this CG team.
I expect Greenup to get some big runs in this game; Carter get his yards, make no mistake. Unfortunately, his line isn't fit enough or quick enough to prevent the Hornets from busting through and getting pressure in the backfield. He'll get most of his yards around the ends, by himself. Lyle is somewhat of a power runner, but he only had two big runs in the Ashland game and that was about it; Ashland made adjustments and shut him down. Coal Grove will be able to run their 5-3 defense very comfortably against Greenup's offense. Even if CG would happen to have trouble containing the Musketeers' backfield, Greenup won't be able to stop CG's offense.
The comment about the Raceland game REALLY cracks me up. As if Raceland would come within three TDs of Coal Grove. Both of GC's wins have come against D6-sized teams. Greenup will be flat-out winning two more games all year.

Just read the same thing, Most of those are Coal Grove supporters who have no idea what GC can do on Friday. It was the same people who claimed Ironton would kill Ashland. Buckeye- a useless nut.

Here's one CG fan who's seen both teams play and knows what Greenup does on friday. I didn't claim Ironton would "kill" Ashland. I predicted Ironton would win, but I didn't predict a blowout.

Is Waugh going to be the QB friday?

He had an insanely good game against Notre Dame: 15 carries, 181 yards (12.1), 2 TDs. Corey Lyle added 10 carries for 91 yards (9.1) and 2 TDs. But again, Greenup only won that game by 4 points and I don't think the Musketeers got even one pass off. Notre Dame is a 1-3 D6 team.
Against Russell, Waugh had 13 carries and 73 yards (5.6) and Lyle had 13 carries for 45 yards (3.4); they were beaten that game, 37-0. Again, they didn't complete a single pass (0-5) and actually had 2 INT.
Against Ashland in game 1, Greenup had 154 yards of rushing offense and Lyle got 85 yards of that in two plays in the 1st quarter and ended up with 128 yards on 17 carries. I only stayed for the first half, but Greenup didn't complete a single pass and the only pass the actually managed to get off the ground was intercepted on the last play of the half.
Against Raceland, Carter had 17 yards on 5 carries until his 76-yard TD run late in the 4th quarter.

Conclusion: Greenup's RBs can appear to have a pretty decent game even though a) their team gets blown out or b) they get the overwhelming majority of their yards on just a few plays and then do nothing for the rest of the game.

Wow, it's going to be weird seeing a stat sheet were we attempt more passes than the other team.

I was just getting ready to post about the arrogance of the Greenup County fans on that thread! Simply amazing!
Forget about alma maters or favorite teams; this game is about showing those folks across the river where their pathetic excuse of a program matches up over here.
I hope CG gets up by 40 at halftime and then leaves the starters in during the 2nd half so they can put up 40 more just because of the ignorance of these fans.
I hope it's so bad that no one in Lloyd or Greenup or South Shore or anywhere in the Greenup County school district will ever think to even look towards Ohio in an unworthy manner ever again.

Fuzz, just remember we won't embarass a team to bad if we have to play them again and lets face facts, Greenup will be homecoming next year.
