The fact that Belpre is a veteran team will hopefully be a huge benefit

Minor flaw with your theory! In AAU you get to PICK your talent/players...in public schools you work with the kids that you have.

I wish the new coach success and hope he is in it for the long haul and not just until his kid graduates.

That holds true for the high school team as well, it's called CUTS!!!!The coaches may not be able to hand pick from several schools but he doesn't have to put kids on the team that shouldn't be there. Don't need the "ALL BUS TEAM". If the current AD decides to keep Coach Parsons after this year I truly believe he will stay, he loves to coach. What some people may not know is that all the high school coaches come up for renewal every year!!!!!

I believe with a system that the "upperclassmen" are familiar with and the desire and work ethic being exhibited in open gym, good things will happen this winter on the banks of the Ohio River.
The move to the Athens Sectional has to be good news.

gotgame, i agree, that move to the athens sectional will more than likely give them an inside track to the districts.

A very very tuff preseason schedule(Akron Buchtel, Toledo Scott, Portsmouth, Oak Hill and Piketon) hopefully will help in preparation for for very tuff early season schedule (Fort Frye, Waterford, Warren, Vinton Co and Marietta)
This team has to hit the ground running come December 5th

DEFENSE is the key!

Should be an interesting year. The key is to improve with each game and be ready for the "second" season come tourney time. That is where you build a winning reputation.

A lot of tough games this winter ahead of the boys. A great slate of home games for the team to play. Should have a packed house everynight as all the conference games should be triple-headers with 9th, JV and varsity games on tap.

Be there early and stay late and visit the concession stand often. ;-)

As always...

LETS GO EAGLES!!!

Dang, papaw! You beat me to it!

This saturday scrimmage in Akron vs Akron Buchtel and Toledo Scott - both D-1 schools.

Next tuesday @ River Valley

Next saturday in Portsmouth vs Portsmouth, defending state champ Oak Hill, Pickerington and Piketon.

Pretty aggressive scrimmage schedule.

Good luck and good health to the team!

I wouldn't look for any more preseason stories on the team until the day before the season opens against Fort Frye. I am sure the Parkersburg papers will be doing stories on all the Parkersburg area teams boys & girls BB and wrestling leading up to the season. The one good thing is Belpre tips-off the season one full week before most of the Parkersburg teams start so we might get a good write up or 2 on the opening games.

Hopefully, the Marietta Times will do some good write-ups with Fort Frye (once) Warren and Waterford (both twice) and Marietta (once) on the schedule this season.

After the 2 1/2 hour bus ride we started off slow but as the day wore on we more than competed. Akron Buchtel and Toledo Scott were both very athletic teams that ran motion offenses.
Our press was very effective and we look to be a team that can score quickly. Coach Parsons has the boys running and this type of play seems to suit our boys well.

Big suprise today was sophomores Drew Nestor and Brooks Sizemore. Both played major minuets and both contributed.

Heard the same thing don't know how serious it is though because he played in yesterdays scrimmage.

Lot of positives from yesterdays scrimmages. I think the best thing to come out of the Akron scrimmage was the kids realizing they can compete with top caliber teams like Akron Buchtel and Toledo Scott.

Reading info from other sites closer to the Cleveland area Akron Buchtel is picked to be at the top of the Akron City League along with Akron SVSM.

Talked to one of the seniors, he said they played well yesterday( in his opinion ) sounds like the team is pretty optimistic this year. Heard Sizemore has improved which is a great asset with his size. To all the players if you're reading, keep those grades up and stay out of trouble. This could be a good year of Basketball in Belpre. Take advantage of the opportunity! Keep up the work and keep working hard in practice!

Doesnt look like Belpre did to bad up there against some of those bigger schools. My only question is how is Sims playing ? He moved back and is suppose to sit out a year ? According to the rules other than that I am not trying to be pessimistic about this team, they are athletic, fast, and strong and if given the right seeding could make a run.
